Baryon production in the string fragmentation picture
An improved version of the “pop-corn” model for baryon production in quark and gluon jets is presented. With a reduced number of parameters the model reproduces well both production rates for different baryon species and baryon momentum distributions. Predictions are presented for a set of baryon-antibaryon correlations.

Development of semantic verbal fluency and narrative ability during summer vacation versus formal schooling
The detrimental effect of a lengthy summer vacation on important scholastic abilities such as reading, writing and mathematical skills is relatively well documented, but how language skills are affected by summer vacation is less investigated. The purpose of our study is to investigate how lexical organization and retrieval assessed by a semantic verbal fluency (SVF) task and oral narrative abilit

Improving Short-Length LDPC Codes with a CRC and Iterative Ordered Statistic Decoding
We present a CRC-aided decodingscheme of LDPC codes that can outperform the underlying LDPC code underordered statistic decoding (OSD). In this scheme, the CRC is usedjointly with the LDPC code to construct a candidate list, insteadof conventionally being regarded as a detection code to prunethe list generated by the LDPC code alone. As an example weconsider a (128,64) 5G LDPC code with BP decodin
Infrared singularities in one-loop amplitudes
In this talk we discuss a purely numerical approach to next-to-leading order calculations in QCD. We present a simple formula, which provides a local infrared subtraction term for the integrand of a one-loop amplitude. In addition we briefly comment on local ultraviolet subtraction terms and on the required deformation of the contour of integration.
New Zealand Tree and Giant Wētā (Orthoptera) Transcriptomics Reveal Divergent Selection Patterns in Metabolic Loci
Exposure to low temperatures requires an organism to overcome physiological challenges. New Zealand wētā belonging to the genera Hemideina and Deinacrida are found across a wide range of thermal environments and therefore subject to varying selective pressures. Here we assess the selection pressures across the wētā phylogeny, with a particular emphasis on identifying genes under positive or divers
Numerical NLO QCD calculations
We present an algorithm for the numerical calculation of one-loop QCD amplitudes. The algorithm consists of subtraction terms, approximating the soft, collinear and ultraviolet divergences of one-loop amplitudes and a method to deform the integration contour for the loop integration into the complex space. The algorithm is formulated at the amplitude level and does not rely on Feynman graphs. Ther

Structure of the human ClC-1 chloride channel
ClC-1 protein channels facilitate rapid passage of chloride ions across cellular membranes, thereby orchestrating skeletal muscle excitability. Malfunction of ClC-1 is associated with myotonia congenita, a disease impairing muscle relaxation. Here, we present the cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structure of human ClC-1, uncovering an architecture reminiscent of that of bovine ClC-K and CLC tran

On the observed diversity of star formation efficiencies in Giant Molecular Clouds
Observations find a median star formation efficiency per free-fall time in Milky Way Giant Molecular Clouds (GMCs) of the order of ϵff∼1 per cent with dispersions of ∼0.5dex. The origin of this scatter in ϵff is still debated and difficult to reproduce with analytical models. We track the formation, evolution and destruction of GMCs in a hydrodynamical simulation of a Milky Way-like galaxy and by
Supernovae feedback propagation: the role of turbulence
Modelling the propagation of supernova (SN) bubbles, in terms of energy, momentum, and spatial extent, is critical for simulations of galaxy evolution which do not capture these scales. To date, small-scale models of SN feedback predict that the evolution of above-mentioned quantities can be solely parametrized by average quantities of the surrounding gas, such as density. However, most of these s
