Reactivity of human omental blood vessels. Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine, substance P and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol

Endotelet, som utklRegulation of blood flow involves several endogenous substances and mechanisms, and exogenous substances may also affect the blood flow. In the present thesis, human omental blood vessels were investigated in vitro concerning (i) characteristics of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors; (ii) mediators of substance P (SP)-induced relaxation; (iii) direct and indirect (via effects on sympathetic neur

Begrepp i fastighetsutveckling

Simultaneous soft symbol and list sequence decoding

A soft output decoding algorithm for convolutional codes, yielding list sequence (LS) decoding and soft symbol output was presented. The max-log list algorithm (MLLA) was introduced, it provides near-optimum soft symbol output equal to that of the max-log MAP algorithm. It was shown that the suboptimum MLLA provides the performance-complexity tradeoff.

VHDL vs. Bluespec System Verilog: A case study on a Java embedded architecture

This paper compares two hardware design flows, based on the classic VHDL on one side and the relatively new Bluespec System Verilog (BSV) on the other side. The comparison is based on a case study of a Java embedded architecture, comprising a Java native processor and a memory management unit. The processor is a micro-programmed, pipelined, Java-optimized processor (JOP), initially written in VHDL

Developing a teaching and learning culture – the case of Faculty of Engineering at Lund University

The first chapter of this paper will give an overview of different ways of developing a university’s teaching and learning. There are many single activities that individually deal with the topic in a positive direction, such as teacher training, develop learning environments, develop teacher reward systems, etc. Traditionally educational development has been about these single activities focusing

Parents' postnatal sense of security (PPSS) developing an instrument and description of important factors based on mothers' and fathers' experiences

Background: Postnatal sense of security, for parents, the first week after childbirth is important for their own and their baby’s wellbeing. Variables influencing the mother’s, and particularly the father’s, sense of security during the first postnatal week are not well known. No instrument measuring dimensions which can be influenced and supported by the postnatal health care team has been found

Drift Study of the Oxidation and the Ammoxidation of Toluene over a TiO2(B)-Supported Vanadia Catalyst

A DRIFT study of the adsorption and the (amm) oxidation of toluene was carried out at 150–300°C on a TiO2(B)-supported vanadia catalyst with a loading corresponding to 1.9 Mg V2O5 per m2 of the support surface area. In the absence of NH3 and gaseous oxygen, the adsorption of toluene at 150°C produces benzyl and benzoate intermediates. After one hour at the same temperature, further conversion of b

New Challenges for Participation in Participatory Design in Family, Clinical and Other Asymmetrical, Non-work Settings

Participatory design (PD) has taken as its ideal that designers and users should engage in an equal language game. When we apply PD in contexts where some of the users involved are weak, ill, or have impairments, this assumed equality can no longer be an ideal. The workshop explores new ideals for participatory design in non-work settings with highly heterogeneous user constellations.

National Biomass Action Plans

The EU has set ambitious targets for renewable energy in its ‘energy & climate change package’ and proposal for a Directive on renewables. The latter sets national renewable energy targets for each Member State to reach the overall objective of 20% consumption by 2020. The challenge lies on how these targets can be met, and what kind of role bioenergy has to play in it. The EU Biomass Action P

Fabrication and Characterisations of New Ultra-thin Silicon Detectors as Pre-Cell Hit Detectors for a Cell Irradiation Facility at LIBAF

For the development of single–ion irradiation system for living cells at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis facility (LIBAF) newly developed pre-cell (PC) detectors have been investigated. Central to the thesis is the fabrication and initial characterization of more than 100 ultra-thin silicon detectors having different thicknesses down to 5 μm with active areas ranging from 0.71 to 0.172 mm2, to be used
