Structural Studies Of Materials Using Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction

This work consisted of the application of X-ray diffraction methods to the study of ultrafast phenomena in various materials. Since the X-ray pulses generated from the bending magnet at the MAX II ring, where most of the experimental work was conducted, have a duration of the order of 300 ps, they can not be used directly as probe pulses in experiments where higher temporal resolution is required.

Aska, Tomhet & Eld.

My thesis is, that a recognition of how he has assumed the outsider position is vital for an understanding of his work, and that it also may contribute to an explanation of his particular importance in the cultural arena of the early 70s. The thesis is structured in four parts. Part one deals with the concept “outside

A method for identifying cascading effects in past events as an input to a decision support tool

Increasing interdependencies between critical infrastructures have made these systems more effective, but also more susceptible to cascading failures. In order to reduce the likelihood and consequences of cascading failures, it is essential to develop tools that support incident commander decisions so that an initial failure does not spread to other infrastructures. Here, a framework for generatin

Advances in Data-Based Approaches for Hydrologic Modeling and Forecasting

This book comprehensively accounts the advances in data-based approaches for hydrologic modeling and forecasting. Eight major and most popular approaches are selected, with a chapter for each stochastic methods, parameter estimation techniques, scaling and fractal methods, remote sensing, artificial neural networks, evolutionary computing, wavelets, and nonlinear dynamics and chaos methods. These a

Near-field SAR for signature and camouflage evaluation in realistic backgrounds

Outdoor ranges are commonly used for accurate RCS measurements of full scale vehicles with or without camouflage. Furthermore, ISAR processing is often used to obtain high quality imagery of the objects. However, these images do not show the vehicles in the environment where they are supposed to operate. This paper describes a ground based SAR system that is used to make accurate measurements on v

Elemental biological imaging by differential absorption with a laser-produced x-ray source

We demonstrate the novel application of hard x rays emitted by a laser-produced plasma for differential imaging of elements. An x-ray-emitting laser-produced plasma, obtained by the focusing of radiation from a 10-Hz terawatt laser, is used for biological imaging. The x-ray source can be arranged to yield characteristic x-ray emission lines with photon energies that bridge the K absorption edge of

Images and Strategies for Autonomy. Explaining Swedish Security Policy Strategies in the 19th Century

How do small states approach their security problems? What types of strategic instruments exist for small states, and when and why are certain strategies chosen rather than others? The security of `weak' states is problematic, demanding trade-offs in the decisions made. Using 19th century Swedish security policy as an example, it is argued here that small states, in their pursuit of security and a
