Orbiting our star, the Sun, there are eight planets and several dwarf planets. Astronomers have now discovered planets orbiting several nearby stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way. In this planetarium show we look up into the starry night sky, familiarize ourselves with the stars and the constellations, and together we discover the exoplanets out there and how they can be detected.

Idas nya teleskop

Ida has a received a new telescope from her grandfather and now she wants to learn how to use it. She meets up with Malin, Sara and Hanna late at night and together they learn to navigate the night sky and locate some planets, nebulae and galaxies.

I denna viSpace is huge and we have yet to discover how to travel among the stars. The furthest any human has ever been is to the Moon. The stars may look close enough to touch at night, but they lie far beyond the planets of our Solar system. They belong to our galaxy; The Milky Way, one of hundreds of billions of galaxies in our Unverse. In this planetariumshow we take a closer look at our Moon and look b

Towards capability-adjusted life years in public health and social welfare : Results from a Swedish survey on ranking capabilities

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to rank capabilities and suggest a relevant set of capabilities for the Swedish context to inform the development of capability-adjusted life years (CALYs). CALYs is a quality of life measure for policy making based on the capability approach by Amartya Sen.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A Swedish governmental review proposed the following 10 relevant capabilities:

Incorporating Cultural Diversity, Nation Building and Social Cohesion When Teaching Communication and Relationship Management

The purpose of this chapter is to reflect on the necessity of incorporating practical and experiential learning modalities in higher education to prepare communication and relationship management students for engaging others in potentially conflicting socio-cultural heterogeneous settings. It is argued that cultural diversity sensitivity, cultivated in teaching modalities, could enhance social coh

Mimicry and artistry: Place branders' construction of "good" branding

Many public organizations think of themselves as brands and engage in branding to increase their attractiveness. Often this is seen as a good practice, but this paper takes a more skeptical view and interrogates the value of place branding expertise for public organizations. Through observation of a place branding conference, drawing on some principles from ethnomethodology, this paper provides cl

The Fiscal State in Africa: Evidence from a century of growth

Why do large differences in fiscal capacity exist between states in the Global South? We constructa comprehensive new dataset of tax and revenue collection for 46 African polities from 1900 to2015. Descriptive analyses show that many polities in Africa have been characterized by stronggrowth in real tax collection. As a next step, we employ these data to test theories of fiscal capac-ity in a long

Monte-Carlo simulations of external dose contributions from the surrounding ground areas of residential homes in a typical Northern European suburban area after a radioactive fallout scenario

The emissions of 137Cs into the environment from the nuclear accidents in Chernobyl in 1986 and Fukushima in 2011 led to the need to decontaminate large areas to avert radiation doses to the population in the affected areas. To be able to perform cost-effective and sustainable remediation, knowledge is needed about how radiation doses can be minimized through optimized interventions such that the

‘Duped Fathers’, ‘Cuckoo Children’, and the Problem of Basing Fatherhood on Biology: A Philosophical Analysis

Who is a child’s father? Is it the man who raised her, or the one whose genes she carries—or both? WIn this chapter, we look at the view that men who have raised children they falsely believed to be ‘their own’ have been victims of a form of fraud or are ‘false fathers’. We consider the question of who has been harmed in such cases, and in what the harm consists. We use conceptual analysis, a phil

Mechanisms behind species-specific water economy responses to water level drawdown in peat mosses

Background and AimsThe ecosystem engineers Sphagnum (peat mosses) are responsible for sequestering a large proportion of carbon in northern peatlands. Species may respond differently to hydrological changes, and water level changes may lead to vegetation shifts in peatlands, causing them to revert from sinks to sources of carbon. We aimed to compare species-specific responses to water level drawdo

Fathers' lived experiences of caring for their preterm infant at the neonatal unit and in neonatal home care after the introduction of a parental support programme : A phenomenological study

Aim: To describe fathers’ lived experiences of caring for their preterm infant at the neonatal unit and in hospital-based neonatal home care after the introduction of an individualised parental support programme. Method: Seven fathers from a larger study were included due to their rich narrative interviews about the phenomenon under study. The interviews took place after discharge from neonatal ho

Crystal-to-Crystal Transitions in Binary Mixtures of Soft Colloids

In this article, we demonstrate a method for inducing reversible crystal-to-crystal transitions in binary mixtures of soft colloidal particles. Through a controlled decrease of salinity and increasingly dominating electrostatic interactions, a single sample is shown to reversibly organize into entropic crystals, electrostatic attraction-dominated crystals, or aggregated gels, which we quantify usi

Fresh News, innovative news : popularizing Cambodia’s authoritarian turn

This article seeks to advance understanding of how the new logics of an expanding digital media system can be mobilized in the service of authoritarianism, by tracing how an online news platform support the legal and discursive production of hegemonic authoritarianism in Cambodia. A state crackdown on independent media has been accompanied by the rise of private digital news outlet Fresh News, whi

Knee and foot contracture occur earliest in children with cerebral palsy : a longitudinal analysis of 2,693 children

Background and purpose — Joint contracture is a common problem among children with cerebral palsy (CP). To prevent severe contracture and its effects on adjacent joints, it is crucial to identify children with a reduced range of motion (ROM) early. We examined whether significant hip, knee, or foot contracture occurs earliest in children with CP. Patients and methods — This was a longitudinal stud
