Comparative in vivo and in vitro studies on the biomechanics of maxillary partial dentures. A methodological and experimental study.

Biomechanical aspects are generally agreed to be significant, particularly during the planning of restorative treatments and the design of prosthetic appliances. However, comparative in vivo/in vitro studies show wide differences in the magnitudes and patterns of functional strains in prosthetic devices. The general aim of this study was to investigate some aspects of the biomechanical behavior of

Active Control of Thermoacoustic Oscillation

Combustion processes serve as important sources of energy for both power generation and for transport, ranging from large scale power stations to micro turbines and aeroplane engines. Even though these different applications are quite different in operating conditions and design, their environmental impact has been subject to stringent restrictions. Lean premixed combustion offers a potential to r

Design Configuration with Architectural Objects

The paper presents the intermediate results of an ongoing research project with the aim to develop concepts and tools for architectural design in industrialized house-building. Architectural design aims to enable different “situations” in the built environment involving people, behaviour, experience and environment, with desired technical, functional and aesthetic properties. "Situations” may be r

Degradation Mechanism and Effects of Vitamin E addition in UHMWPE Hip Implants

Wear of the UHMWPE component is one of the major concerns in joint replacement surgery, triggering prosthetic loosening leading to revision. The understanding of the mechanisms of material degradation, especially in regard to oxidation, is one of the keys to significantly improve the mechanical properties. This work focused on the relationship between the failure mechanism, crosslinking and oxidat

A Strategic View on Relationship in the Grocery Supply Chain - The Case of low Complex Products

It is easy when studying the literature on the current development toward closer more integrated business to business relationships to get the impression that a close integrated relationship is desired for all circumstances. Instead, this thesis shows that the nature of business relationship is very strongly correlated to product supplied. The focus of this thesis has been a case study between a s

Där beskrevs även grunden för rikets gemenskap och SveThis study deals with questions about norm building and arguments for community in official royal rhetoric in the Swedish realm from 1660 to 1919. Every year, an intercession day proclamation issued by the King in Council (Kungl. Maj:ts böndagsplakat) was read out from pulpits across Sweden. Like many communiqués, they belonged to the proclamation system, which included the spreading of informatio

Coded optimal partial response signaling

Optimal finite partial response signals based on 2 and 4 PAM were found by Said and Anderson. The encoder is a simple discrete-time filter, whose combination of bandwidth and Euclidian distance is optimized. Here we extend the idea to the case when the modulated symbols are first encoded by a convolutional encoder. Good narrowband codes are the result.

Multiview reconstruction of space curves

Is the real problem in resolving correspondence using current stereo algorithms the lack of the "right" matching criterion? In studying the related task of reconstructing three-dimensional space curves from their projections in multiple views, we suggest that the problem is more basic: matching and reconstruction are coupled, and so reconstruction algorithms should exploit ths rather than assuming

Knowledge Creation and Sharing – Complex Methods of Inquiry and Inconsistent Theory

Recent research and practice have led to the development of relatively complex methods for inquiry which can be applied by human analysts. However, it has appeared until recently that these could not be supported by software tools, since the limitations of traditional mathematical algorithms constrained their development. We suggest a model which lays the foundations for the development of softwar
