Morphology of Polymers - Development of Electron Microscopy Methods
Most polymeric materials used today are not simple homopolymers, but consist of more than one polymer, which lead to morphologies of different length scale and shape. It is important to receive knowledge of the morphologies because the properties of the materials change depending on the structure. This thesis describes methods developed to study polymer morphologies by electron microscopy and also
Measuring the 'New Balance of Rights and Responsibilities' in Labor Market Policy A quantitative overview of activation strategies in 20 OECD countries
Labor market policies have been re-configured during the ´activation turn' in labor market policy-making in the 1990s. This included restricting behavioral requirements for job seekers and benefit claimants, but also improving services (e.g. better placement services). In a nutshell, the `rights and responsibilities' of jobseekers and labor market participants were re-balanced. To date, there is o
The materiality of encyclopedic information : Remediating a loved one – Mourning Britannica
Abstract in UndeterminedThis paper presents a qualitative thematic analysis of reader comments posted in connection to a series of articles published after Encyclopaedia Britannica’s announcement to forego its print edition. It shows how ideas of what information is, are entangled with ideas of what a certain medium is and does. Two research questions guide the analysis: 1) How are encyclopedias a
Hushållsel-Energieffektivisering i vardagen
Using WordNet to Extend FrameNet Coverage
We present two methods to address the problem of sparsity in the FrameNet lexical database. The first method is based on the idea that a word that belongs to a frame is ``similar'' to the other words in that frame. We measure the similarity using a WordNet-based variant of the Lesk metric. The second method uses the sequence of synsets in WordNet hypernym trees as feature vectors that can be used

International benchmarking of e-learning at Lund University, Sweden - Aims and results
In 2008-2009 Lund University, Sweden, took part in two European benchmarking projects on eLearning, E-xcellence+ (EADTU) and Benchmarking eLearning exercise2009 (ESMU) as part of the University’s policy for quality assurance and quality enhancement of education. Among the aims were · to adopt, as the first Swedish university, a benchmarking process according to quality criteria of eLearning formul
Hyperelastic constants from a modified hardness test using energy balance obtained from FE-analysis
In order to simplify the hyperelastic characterisation of rubber materials, an extension of the standard hardness test is proposed. A number of indentation depths are chosen for the hardness test and the indentation forces for these depths are recorded. By this modification, hyperelastic constants can be derived from the test, providing more information from the test by a small extra effort. Equiv

Regulatory telematics for heavy vehicles - Policy and innovation implications from the intelligent access program (IAP)
In Australia a national public/private telematics framework has been established, which is administered by Transport Certification Australia (TCA). The first application was the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), which has enabled several road transport reforms by managing infrastructure risks associated with the operation of extra heavy vehicle configurations. The paper uses the IAP to demonstrate

Effects of Coherence and Correlations on Transport through Nanostructures
Popular Abstract in English For several decades the electronic industry has developed towards smaller and smaller electronic components. The idea behind this development is quite simple: Small components have faster response times, which enables faster devices. Also, smaller components make it possible to decrease the size of the devices. A common example is today's mobile phones, that actually arThis dissertation deals with the effects of coherence and correlations on transport through nanostructures. Simulations are mainly performed using the second order von Neumann approach, a method capable of dealing with these effects in the presence of higher order tunneling. We see that such effects can result in various kinds of current suppression as well as efficient thermoelectric devices. Fu
Analysis of the asymptotic iterative decoding performance of turbo codes
We analyse the iterative decoding performance of conventional rate R=1/3 turbo codes, when both code length and number of iterations tend to infinity. To obtain a rigorous bound on the iterative limit, we introduce a two-phase decoding algorithm which can be analyzed asymptotically

Au wetting and nanoparticle stability on GaAs(111)B
Au nanoparticles and Au films for growth of nanowires on the GaAs(111)B surface have been studied by a combination of experimental and theoretical techniques. If Au is present in either form, annealing to temperatures relevant for nanowire growth results in the formation of a thin Au wetting layer. Based on density functional theory calculations and experimental data, a structural model is propose
