A measurement-based statistical model for industrial ultra-wideband channels

The results of three ultra-wideband (UWB) measurement campaigns conducted in two different industrial environments are presented. A frequency range of 3.1 - 10.6 or 3.1 - 5.5 GHz was measured using a vector network analyzer and a virtual array technique enabling the investigation of smallscale statistics. The results show that the energy arrives in clusters, and that the abundance of metallic scat

N-representability of two-electron densities and density matrices and the application to the few-body problem

We have found a (dense) basis for the N-representable, two-electron densities, in which all N-representable two-electron densities can be expanded, using positive coefficients. The inverse problem of finding a representative wavefunction, giving a prescribed two-electron density, has also been solved. The two-electron densities are found to lie in a convex set in a vector space. An algorithm to co

A Monte Carlo Investigation of the Dual Photopeak Window Scatter Correction Method

Results from a Monte Carlo investigation of the dual photopeak window (DPW) scatter correction method are presented for point and extended sources of Tc-99m in both homogeneous and nonhomogeneous attenuating media. The DPW method uses the ratio of counts in two nonoverlapping energy windows within the photopeak region as input to a regression relation. A pixel-by-pixel estimate of the scatter in t

Judicial Independence: A Legal Research on Its Theoretical Aspects, Practices from Germany, The United States of America, France, Vietnam, and Recommendations for Vietnam

It is widely recognized that judicial independence is an indispensable value of a modern democracy. When a country wishes to adopt this value, questions may arise, such as what it is and how to develop it properly? This thesis explores the issue of judicial independence in two aspects: theoretical and practical. For the theoretical aspect, it first examines the rule of law and protection of human

Personality, mental distress, and risk perception in subjects with multiple chemical sensitivity and toxic encephalopathy.

Personality, mental distress, and risk perception were assessed in (a) cases of multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS; n = 17), (b) chemically intolerant toxic encephalopathy cases (TE), type 2A (n = 31) and 2B (n = 26), and (c) healthy referents (n = 200). MCS cases showed elevated mental distress scores on the Depression, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Global Severity Index, and Somatization scales in

Per Ekwall and Physical Chemistry 1 in Lund: Ion binding and microstructure in relation to phase behavior

The research in the Department of Physical Chemistry 1 at Lund University includes topics such as surfactant self-assembly; polymers, solutions, gels and phase behavior, polymer-surfactant systems; protein and protein-amphiphile systems; adsorption and surface forces; experimental methodology in colloid science; and theory and modeling. (Annual Report (2004) Physical Chemistry 1; Lund University;

Stimulation of id1 expression by bone morphogenetic protein is sufficient and necessary for bone morphogenetic protein-induced activation of endothelial cells.

Background— Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are multifunctional proteins that regulate the proliferation, differentiation, and migration of a large variety of cell types. Like other members of the transforming growth factor-ß family, BMPs elicit their cellular effects through activating specific combinations of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors and their downstream effector p

Knowledge discovery in virtual community texts: Clustering virtual communities

Automatic knowledge discovery from texts (KDT) is proving to be a promising method for businesses today to deal with the overload of textual information. In this paper, we first explore the possibilities for KDT to enhance communication in virtual communities, and then we present a practical case study with real-life Internet data. The problem in the case study is to manage the very successful vir

Mechanisms of salt frost scaling on portland cement-bound materials: studies and hypothesis

A hypothesis regarding the mechanism causing salt frost scaling on Portland cement-bound materials is described. It is assumed that deterioration is due to osmotic micro ice body growth, as has been previously proposed for frost deterioration of moisture-isolated specimens of cement-bound materials. In moisture-isolated specimens, this ice body growth stops when the micro structure is drained to a

Heredity of hypospadias and the significance of low birth weight

Purpose: We analyzed a large group of patients with hypospadias regarding familial aggregation, phenotype, twin rate and ethnic origin and assessed the correlation of low birth weight with hypospadias. Materials and Methods: We mailed questionnaires to 2,503 boys operated on for hypospadias in Sweden asking for additional cases of hypospadias in the family, the number of brothers in the nuclear fa

Testing in serum for human glandular kallikrein 2, and free and total prostate specific antigen in biannual screening for prostate cancer.

Purpose: We investigated the value of serum measurements for glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2), and free (f) and total (t) prostate specific antigen (PSA) in a second round of biannual screening for prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: In 1995 to 1996, 5,853 of 9,811 randomly selected men in Goteborg, Sweden 50 to 66 years old had PSA measurements. Of 660 men 611 with tPSA 3 ng/ml or greater underwe

A methodological report from the Malmö Diet and Cancer study: development and evaluation of altered routines in dietary data processing

Background: In the Malmö Diet and Cancer study, information on dietary habits was obtained through a modified diet history method, combining a 7-day menu book for cooked meals and a diet questionnaire for foods with low day-to-day variation. Half way through the baseline data collection, a change of interview routines was implemented in order to reduce interview time. Methods: Changes concentrated
