Structure and stability of γ1-AuZn2.1 : A γ-brass-related complex phase in the Au-Zn System

γ1-AuZn2.1 in the Au-Zn binary system has been synthesized and its structure analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the trigonal space group P31m (No. 157) with ∼227 atoms per unit cell and represents a 3a × 3a × c superstructure of rhombohedrally distorted γ-Au5-x Zn8+y. The structure is largely tetrahedrally closed packed. The formation of γ1-AuZn2.1 can be understood w

An 11 GHz-Bandwidth Variable Gain Ka-Band Power Amplifier for 5G Applications

A Ka-band,32-43 GHz,differential power amplifier (PA) for millimeter wave applications is presented. The PA is a three stage design with a nominal gain of 36 dB. A device periphery ratio of 1:2:4 is adopted for pre-driver,driver and final stage, respectively. To enable use of 2.7 V supply,a cascode topology was employed in all three stages. The input is 80 ω differential and the output load is 50 ω

Modeling the morphology of self-assisted GaP nanowires grown by molecular beam epitaxy

The morphologies of self-assisted GaP nanowires grown by gas source MBE in regular arrays on silicon substrates are modeled by a kinetic equation for the nanowire radius versus the position along the nanowire axis. The most important growth parameter that governs the nanowire morphology is the V/III flux ratio. Sharpened nanowires with a stable radius equal to only 12 nm at a V/III flux ratio of 6

The coherent electromagnetic field and the effect of the pair distribution function

The effect of two different pair correlation functions, used to model multiple scattering in a slab filled with randomly located spherical particles, is investigated. Specifically, the Percus-Yevick approximation is employed and a comparison with the simple hole correction is made. The kernel entries of the hole correction have an analytic solution, which makes the numerical solution of the integr

Characterization of Male-Produced Aggregation Pheromone of the Bean Flower Thrips Megalurothrips sjostedti (Thysanoptera: Thripidae)

Aggregation of the bean flower thrips, Megalurothrips sjostedti (Trybom) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), has been observed on cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. To understand the mechanism underpinning this behavior, we studiedthe responses of M. sjostedti to headspace volatiles from conspecifics in a four-arm olfactometer. Both male andfemale M. sjostedti were attracted to male, but not to female od

Elucidating dominant pathways of the nano-particle self-assembly process

Self-assembly processes play a key role in the fabrication of functional nano-structures with widespread application in drug delivery and micro-reactors. In addition to the thermodynamics, the kinetics of the self-assembled nano-structures also play an important role in determining the formed structures. However, as the self-assembly process is often highly heterogeneous, systematic elucidation of

Combating district heating bottlenecks using load control

The 4th generation of district heating systems face a potential problem where lowered water temperatures lead to higher flow rates, which requires higher hydraulic capacity in terms of pipe and pump sizes. This increases the effect of the already existing issue of hydraulic bottlenecks, causing peripheral units (customers) to experience reduced flow rates. A coordinating control strategy is presen

Exclusive vector meson photoproduction at the LHC and a future circular collider : A closer look on the final state

Over the past years, the LHC experiments have reported experimental evidence for processes associated to photon-photon and photon-hadron interactions, showing their potential to investigate the production of low- and high-mass systems in exclusive events. In the particular case of the photoproduction of vector mesons, the experimental study of this final state is expected to shed light on the desc

CP Properties of Higgs Boson Interactions with Top Quarks in the t t ¯ H and tH Processes Using H →γγ with the ATLAS Detector

A study of the charge conjugation and parity (CP) properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and top quarks is presented. Higgs bosons are identified via the diphoton decay channel (H→γγ), and their production in association with a top quark pair (tt¯H) or single top quark (tH) is studied. The analysis uses 139 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of

Multilamellar Vesicle Formation Probed by Rheo-NMR and Rheo-SALS under Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear

The formation of multilamellar vesicles (MLVs) in the lyotropic lamellar phase of the system triethylene glycol mono n-decyl ether (C10E3)/water is investigated under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) using spatially resolved rheo-NMR spectroscopy and a combination of rheo-small angle light scattering (rheo-SALS) and conventional rheology. Recent advances in rheo-NMR hardware development fa

A map of D/H on Mars in the thermal infrared using EXES aboard SOFIA

On a planetary scale, the D/H ratio on Mars is a key diagnostic for understanding the past history of water on the planet; locally, it can help to constrain the sources and sinks of water vapor through the monitoring of condensation and sublimation processes. To obtain simultaneous measurements of H2O and HDO lines, we have used the Echelle Cross Echelle Spectrograph (EXES) instrument aboard the S

Novel missense ACAN gene variants linked to familial osteochondritis dissecans cluster in the C-terminal globular domain of aggrecan

The cartilage aggrecan proteoglycan is crucial for both skeletal growth and articular cartilage function. A number of aggrecan (ACAN) gene variants have been linked to skeletal disorders, ranging from short stature to severe chondrodyplasias. Osteochondritis dissecans is a disorder where articular cartilage and subchondral bone fragments come loose from the articular surface. We previously reporte

"Drawing the line" and other small scale resistances : Exploring agency and ambiguity in transnational feminist and queer NGOs

This article explores the discourses, actors, and cross-border exchanges thatshape the broader landscape of contemporary transnational feminist andqueer non-governmental organizations (NGOs). While several studies havepointed to the co-opted role of NGOs, fewer have explored the potential forNGOs to influence the conditions under which they operate. That is what thisarticle sets out to do, with th

Changing labels for a concept in change. Commentaries to: Bishop, D.V.M. Ten questions about terminology for children with unexplained language problems

In this commentary we reflect on current labels and criteria for child language impairment from a Swedishperspective. We call for a new label highlighting the developmental, changeable and dynamic characteristics of theimpairment and discuss implications for diagnosis, assessment and research. Conceptual coherence will promotethe professional identity and status necessary for much needed communica

Search for a feebly interacting particle X in the decay K+→π+X

A search for the K+ → π+X decay, where X is a long-lived feebly interacting particle, is performed through an interpretation of the K+ → π+νν¯ analysis of data collected in 2017 by the NA62 experiment at CERN. Two ranges of X masses, 0–110 MeV/c2 and 154–260 MeV/c2, and lifetimes above 100 ps are considered. The limits set on the branching ratio, BR(K+ → π+X), are competitive with previously repor
