Well-being Processes : Insights into Personal Growth and Adolescent Mental Health

Sammanlagt ingår fem studier iavhandlingen, This thesis follows two main lines of inquiry into well-being processes: 1) atheoretical exploration of personal growth, defined as the gradual growth of wellbeing, and 2) an empirical exploration of students’ mental health profiles and sense of self. Altogether five studies are included in the thesis, two of which follow thefirst line of inquiry (articles I and II) and three of which follow the s

Associations of CSF PDGFRβ With Aging, Blood-Brain Barrier Damage, Neuroinflammation, and Alzheimer Disease Pathologic Changes

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Injured pericytes in the neurovascular unit release platelet-derived growth factor β (PDGFRβ) into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). However, it is not clear how pericyte injury contributes to Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related changes and blood brain barrier (BBB) damage. We aimed to test if CSF PDGFRβ was associated with different AD- and age-associated pathological changes

Voices of Supporters : Populist parties, social media and the 2019 European elections

This book addresses an under-researched area within populism studies: the discourse of supporters of populist parties. Taking the 2019 European elections as their case study, the authors analyse how supporters in eleven different countries construct identities and voting motivations on social media. The individual chapters comprise a range of methods to investigate data from different social mediaThis book addresses an under-researched area within populism studies: the discourse of supporters of populist parties. Long-term exposure to residential transportation noise and mortality : A nationwide cohort study

Studies have indicated that transportation noise is associated with higher cardiovascular mortality, whereas evidence of noise as a risk factor for respiratory and cancer mortality is scarce and inconclusive. Also, knowledge on effects of low-level noise on mortality is very limited. We aimed to investigate associations between road and railway noise and natural-cause and cause-specific mortality

ON KANNAN-GERAGHTY MAPS AS AN EXTENSION OF KANNAN MAPS

Extending the concept of weakly Kannan maps on metric spaces, we study the maps as $f:X\rightarrow X$ on a metric space $(X, d)$ satisfying condition $d(f(x), f(y)) \leq (1/2)\beta(d(x, y))[d(x ,f(x)) + d(y, f(y))]$ for every $x, y\in X$ and a function $\beta: [0, \infty)\rightarrow [0,1)$ where for every sequence $t=\{t_n\}$ of non-negative real numbers satisfying $\beta(t_n)\rightarrow 1,$ while

Parents' experiences of their child's participation in divorce groups in Norway : A phenomenological study

BackgroundChildren and youth who experience divorce are found to have increased risk of emotional and behavioural adjustment problems. Different prevention programmes have been developed to help and support children. Previous studies have focused on the child or the group leader's experience with divorce groups, but studies describing parent's experience are missing. The aim of this study was to e

An inflamed subtype of difficult-to-treat depression

BACKGROUND: Chronic low-grade inflammation may play a role in the pathophysiology of depression, at least in a subset of patients. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) has been used to define an inflamed subgroup of depression with specific clinical characteristics and symptoms. In this study we investigated biochemical and clinical characteristics in patients with difficult-to-treat depre

Molecular characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma with respect to patient age at diagnosis

Lung cancer is primarily a disease of the elderly, with a median age at diagnosis around 70 years. In our study we sought to address the question of whether and how clinical characteristics, molecular alterations and molecular phenotypes differ between patient populations with early-stage lung adenocarcinoma (AC) with respect to age at diagnosis. Patients were stratified based on age at diagnosis

Gender, health, the decisions we make and the actions we take

This thesis comprises of four self-contained papers that use both experimental and applied micro-econometric methods to explore different aspects of gender, health, the decisions we make, and the actions we take. In the first paper we investigate changes in psychiatric diagnoses and their income-related inequalities over time in Sweden and attempt to disentangle the development by decomposing chan

PFAS Contamination in Groundwater; Evaluating Factors Influencing the Impact of PFAS Contamination on the Drinking Water Source in a Holistic Approach _________________________

Samtidigt är dessa kemikalier vitt använt i olika industriella samt vardagliga produkteAqueuous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) containing Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) is one of the major sources of groundwater contamination in Sweden. Groundwater contamination caused by the use of AFFF in correlation to fire training events was investigated in Kallinge, Sweden. At the site groundwater was previously used as a drinking water source consequently affecting the inhabit

Exploring the sex and gender differences in the human brain at single cell level

Exploring the sex and gender differences in the human brain Sex and gender differences in human brain are both of scientific and societal interest, and impact a wide range of physiological processes, including brain development, behaviour, and disease risk. Currently, sex is defined as biological attributes due to the presence in the person’s genome of XX or XY chromosomes, while the gender ident
