The Economic Cost of Political Retaliation: China's Informal Sanctions on Norwegian Salmon Exports

This thesis investigates the economic consequences of informal sanctions imposed by China on Norwegian salmon exports following the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. Although no formal trade restrictions were announced, Norwegian salmon, a main export item, faced opaque import barriers that significantly disrupted trade flows. Using disaggregated product-level export

Explicit dynamic analysis of Drive Over Curb load case

The aim of this study was to explore the potential of using an explicit dynamic finite element (FE) simulation to predict forces and accelerations in the suspension during a “Drive over Curb” load case. This was conducted using the explicit FE solver LS-DYNA. To validate the FE model, simulation results were compared

Complexity and Choice under Risk

We investigate the role of complexity in choice under risk through an online experiment in which complexity is manipulated by the use of tokens and tokens-to-dollar conversion rates. This novel experimental design allows us to represent the same dollar amount with different numbers of tokens and thus create choice options that are identical in terms of value but different in terms of complexity. Using a qualitative research design and the three-pillar framework of institutions, this study investigates the approval process of Agri-PV in Bavaria. 17 semi-structured interviews w

Competition Law Framework through European Commission’s Block Exemption Regulations with focus on Motor Vehicles Sector Aftermarket & reliance on Non-Personal Data

The aftermarket, with its spare parts and services, is a strong business driver compared to products from OEMs in the primary market. The MV sector, with features like autonomous driving, advanced mobility, etc., relies on data driven ecosystems apart from the conventional spare parts business. Such a market involves independent repairers, spare parts manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, end use

Can machine learning be used to accurately forecast intraday index returns using candlestick data?

This thesis wants to investigate whether machine learning, trained on candlestick data, can be used to forecast intraday returns. Previous research has primarily focused on returns with longer horizons and is therefore leaving a research gap on shorter horizons. This thesis will use a combination of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) as the deep learning model to

Investigating Automation of One-Loop Matching of Effective Field Theories for Beyond the Standard Model Research

Allt eftersom de experimentella delarna av fysiken har fått möjligheten att göra noggrannare och nAfter the Higgs boson’s discovery precision searches for Beyond the Standard Model physics has become a new frontier in fundamental physics research. In extensions to the Standard Model, large combinatorics arising due to the many possibly involved particles in Feynman diagrams stands in the way of performing precision calculations of what such extensions predict. This work investigates the feasib

Shards of Identity: Rhenish pottery and cultural expression in the Viking Age emporia of Hedeby and Kaupang

This paper examines the role of imported Rhenish pottery in the expression of cultural identity by Frisian merchants in Viking Age emporia. From the beginning of the Viking Age, a new maritime trade network developed in the North Sea and Baltic region that would eventually connect vast areas of Europe through long-distance trade. Along these routes new trade settlements would appear, the emporia.

Out of sight, out of mind? Income inequality proximity and happiness in urban Mexico

Income inequality is typically assumed to be a societal problem. Yet, empirical evidence remains inconclusive on whether inequality reduces individuals’ well-being or not. This study uses data on national-, state-, and city-level inequality measures in Mexico to observe how these relate to changes in self-reported well-being across 12 years. The analysis reveals that the relationship between happi

Conclusion: The study concludes that previously established explanatory models are not necessarily applicable to the Swedish stock market. The study shows that the Swedish market reacts negatively to a high bid premium at the announcement of a corporate acquisition. However, no conclusions can be drawn about whether acquisition experience or the method of payment affects the market’s reaction.

Adaptive voids in the urban landscape: Limhamns Kalkbrott in Malmo

Urban voids are not merely physical gaps on the city map. These are spaces that remain beyond programming, control, and conventional use. Often the result of economic downturns, industrial decline, or intentional neglect, such areas are frequently perceived as uncomfortable, unsafe, or unusable. Yet it is precisely their ambiguity that carries significant potential - the capacity to flexibly adap
