Climate vulnerability of agroecological and conventional smallholders in Mvomero district, Tanzania : using mixed-methods to uncover local experiences and motivations of farming for the future

Changing rainfall patterns make farmers increasingly vulnerable to crop failure, income loss and food insecurity. Agroecology is proposed to reduce climate vulnerabilities of farmers, as such practices and social movement aim to create more resilient farm and food systems. It is however fairly unknown if, and to what extent, agroecological farmers are better able to cope with climate induced expos

FGM modeling of ammonia/n-heptane combustion under RCCI engine conditions

A novel flamelet-generated manifold (FGM) model is introduced, encompassing ignition and flame propagation in ammonia/n-heptane dual-fuel combustion under reactivity-controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engine conditions. To generate the FGM mapping function (FGM tabulation) accounting for multiple combustion modes in RCCI combustion, a novel one-dimensional RCCI configuration (1D-RC) is propose

Inverse stochastic resonance in adaptive small-world neural networks

Inverse stochastic resonance (ISR) is a counterintuitive phenomenon where noise reduces the oscillation frequency of an oscillator to a minimum occurring at an intermediate noise intensity, and sometimes even to the complete absence of oscillations. In neuroscience, ISR was first experimentally verified with cerebellar Purkinje neurons [Buchin et al., PLOS Comput. Biol. 12, e1005000 (2016)]. These

Larval growth rate is not a major determinant of adult wing shape and eyespot size in the seasonally polyphenic butterfly Melanitis leda

Background: Insects often show adaptive phenotypic plasticity where environmental cues during early stages are used to produce a phenotype that matches the environment experienced by adults. Many tropical satyrine butterflies (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae) are seasonally polyphenic and produce distinct wet- and dry-season form adults, providing tight environment-phenotype matching in seasonal environmen

More in Lund examines the possibilities and challenges of giving new life to an overlooked urban space. The project is rooted in questions about how public architecture can promote a social mix, how cultural-historical values can influence a new design and how the surrounding urban space can be used as inspiration and provide indications of what can add to the city’s urban envi

Prepared for the future? Social work students, ontological insecurity and the turning point in Swedish refugee policies

The year 2015 marked a rupture in the post-war development of refugee reception and integration policies in Sweden. This rupture involved both a radical change in refugee policy and practice, and a rupture in the long-held collective self-image of Sweden as a country with generous reception and integration policies (Scarpa & Schierup 2018). This article responds to the question of how social wThe year 2015 marked a rupture in the post-war development of refugee reception and integration policies in Sweden. Investigating the Relationship between Infant Carrying and Postnatal Depression in a German and American Sample

Postnatal depression is a highly prevalent problem, with widespread negative consequences for mother and infant. To understand whether Infant Carrying might be able to protect from or mitigate postnatal depression onset, this online study was conducted using a German and American sample of mothers in the first 6 months postpartum (N = 217). The aim was to gather further knowledge on the relationsh

Assessing the Impact of a Pulley System Enrichment on the Hunting Behaviors of Captive European Wildcats

This study investigates whether a pulley system enrichment can improve the hunting behaviors of European wildcats (Felis silvestris silvestris) in captivity. It was carried out in support of the conservation efforts to reintroduce and preserve the endangered Scottish wildcat population. The research was conducted on four European wildcats at Nordens Ark zoo in Sweden. The enrichment device was des

Grounding Embodied Multimodal Interaction : Towards Behaviourally Established Semantic Foundations for Human-Centered AI : The 1st International Workshop on Knowledge Representation for Hybrid Intelligence (KR4HI 2022), part of International Conference on Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence (HHAI 2022), Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 13-17, 2022

We position recent and emerging research in cognitive vision and perception addressing three key questions: (1) What kind of relational abstraction mechanisms are needed to perform (explainable) grounded inference --e.g., question-answering, qualitative generalisation, hypothetical reasoning-- relevant to embodied multimodal interaction? (2) How can such abstraction mechanisms be founded on behavi

Mating system, female fecundity and sexual selection in wild Cassida viridis beetles

What makes a beetle attractive? My project looks at how green tortoise beetles (Cassida viridis) choose partners, and which physical traits have a higher success in obtaining a mate. I did this by tracking individuals in three wild populations of Skåne, Sweden, and taking photographs of mating beetles. To document differences between the sexes and populations, see how many partners a beetle has,
