Importance of bone graft quality for implant integration after maxillary sinus reconstruction

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether bone quality, as assessed by osteometry and histologic parameters, can be used to predict implant integration in conjunction with maxillary sinus reconstruction. STUDY DESIGN: Twelve patients with severely atrophied maxillary alveolar processes were treated through use of a two-stage surgical reconstructive strategy with implant placement 4

New information on b-delayed neutron emission from 12,14Be

The β-delayed neutron branches from neutron-rich Be-isotopes have been measured with a setup sensitive down to thermal energies. For 14Be a new value of Pn = 101 ± 4% has been found for the total neutron-emission probability and an upper limit of 2.4% (95% confidence level) is imposed on the combination P2n + 3P3n of multi-neutron emission probabilities. Moreover, an improved value of Pn = 0.50 ±

Experimental study of the moisture distribution inside a pulp sheet using MRI. Part II: Drying experiments

A spin-echo MRI sequence has been employed to measure moisture profiles during the drying of industrial never-dried pulp samples and was able to detect moisture even at very low:moisture content (6%). For the first time, moisture profiles have been measured for pulp samples approximately 2.5 mm thick with a spatial resolution of 0.15 mm under quite severe drying temperatures (up to 87 degrees C).

Sources of methylmercury to a wetland-dominated lake in northern Wisconsin

Several lines of evidence suggest that wetlands may be a major source of methylmercury (MeHg) to receiving waters, perhaps explaining the strong correlation between concentrations of waterborne MeHg and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in regions such as northern Wisconsin. We evaluated the relative importance of wetland export in the MeHg budget of a wetland-dominated lake in northern Wisconsin usi

The Bias of the World : Theories of Unequal Exchange in History

Bland det tidiga 1900-talets marxistiska ekonomer spelade ojämnt utbyte en roll i Otto Bauers tolkning av nationalistiska motsättningar, och i Henryk Grossmanns verk som enThis is a history of theories and theorists of unequal exchange. Starting with mercantilists and Richard Cantillon's theory based on land values, it briefly covers the early Classical economists and Gerald Fitzhugh. Among early 20th century Marxist economists, unequal exchange appeared in Otto Bauer's explanation of nationalist antagonism, and in Henryk Grossmann as countering the breakdown of cap

Forward jet production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

The production of forward jets has been measured in deep inelastic ep collisions at HERA. The results are presented in terms of single differential cross sections as a function of the Bjorken scaling variable (xB(j)) and as triple differential cross sections d3 sigma/dx(Bj)dQ(2)dp(t)(,jet)(2), where Q(2) is the four momentum transfer squared and p(t)(,iet)(2) is the squared transverse momentum of

In vitro measurements of optical properties of porcine brain using a novel compact device

Knowledge of the optical properties of tissues can be applied in numerous medical and scientific fields, including cancer diagnostics and therapy. There are many different ways of determining the optical properties of turbid media. The paper describes measurements of the optical properties of porcine brain tissue using novel instrumentation for simultaneous absorption and scattering characterisati

Myocardial Perfusion and Function: Comparative assessment by ECG, SPECT and MRI

Popular Abstract in Swedish Populärvetenskaplig sammanfattning på svenska Sjukdom i hjärtat är mycket vanligt i västvärlden. I Sverige lider 12% av befolkningen av hjärt-kärlsjukdomar. Akut hjärtinfarkt är den vanligaste enskilda dödsorsaken. Sjukdomar i hjärtats kranskärl och deras komplikationer förorsakar totalt cirka 25% av alla dödsfall i Sverige. Hjärtsjukdom beror främst på förträngningar Evaluation of myocardial perfusion and function is important in management of patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease. This thesis focuses on the use of common diagnostic methods, myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (MPS) and electrocardiography (ECG), to enhance and validate the diagnostic information. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used

Systematic CIV3 and MCDF calculations for the UV0.01 multiplet in O III

We have carried out accurate, systematic calculations for the 2s2p(3 5)S(2)(o)-2s(2)2p(2 3)P(1,2) E1] lines at 1660.807 and 1666.153 Angstrom in O III. Uncertainty estimates for their A values and the lifetime of the S-5(2)o level have been determined from a set of quality criteria. A lifetime of 1.21 +/- 0.06 ms is recommended for this level, in excellent agreement with a recent experiment. The c

Förutom att utbildningen ska vara relevant för den kommande yrkesfunktionen måThe aims of this thesis were to study how the students in the work experience period of The Study Program in Public Health and Education experienced how the discipline of education could contribute to health promotion in practice and if whether the integration between theory and practice in this case reached the appropriate higher education standard. The data collection comprised semi-structured i

Investigation of colour reconnection in WW events with the DELPHI detector at LEP-2

In the reaction e(+)e(-) -> WW -> (q(1) (q) over bar (2))(q(3)(q) over bar (4)) the usual hadronization models treat the colour singlets q(1)(q) over bar (2) and q(3)(q) over bar (4) coming from two W bosons independently. However, since the. nal state partons may coexist in space and time, cross-talk between the two evolving hadronic systems may be possible during fragmentation through soft gluon

Analytic expressions for the bit error probabilities of rate-1/2 memory 2 convolutional encoders

Analytic expressions for the exact bit error probabilities of rate R = 1/2, memory m = 2 convolutional encoders are derived for a maximum-likelihood (ML) decoder and transmission over the binary-symmetric channel (BSC). The resulting expressions are rational functions of the crossover probability of the BSC. In addition to classical nonsystematic encoders without feedback, we consider also recursi
