Musical marginalization processes: Problematizing the marginalization concept through an example from early 20th century American popular culture.

The author sets out to analyse a number of representations of the biblical Hagar figure in African American and white American culture. Spivak (1988) has problematized the marginalization concept with regard to the study of the third world subject, arguing that knowledge always expresses the interests of the knowledge producers, and that Western academic research is always colonial. The aim of the

The Swedish Netuniversity

This paper focus on quality indicators for lifelong learning and the learners’ choices. The main issue for the paper is indeed to highlight the Swedish response to some of the initiatives from the Commission concerning LLL and the eAction plan. The paper will also give a short overview, mainly of the Swedish Net University.

Decoding for multiple-access channels

We discuss some results in coding and decoding for multiple-access channels. A new approach to choosing codes and users' energies for that channel is described. For the case when a bit error probability and a decoding complexity are fixed we construct a region of achievable code rates.

Referera reflekterande.

F0 and Segment Duration in Formant Synthesis of Speaker Age

This paper describes the work with F0 and segment duration when developing a prototype system for analysis of speaker age using data-driven formant synthesis. The system was developed to extract 23 parameters from the test words—spoken by four differently aged female speakers of the same dialect and family — and to generate synthetic copies. Audio-visual feedback enabled the user to compare the na

On coded OFDM over frequency selective channels using woven convolutional codes

A communication system with woven convolutional codes and OFDM is considered. With coherent reception and iterative decoding this combination seems promising over frequency selective channels. The robustness of the considered class of schemes is illustrated by simulation results for specific fixed channel transfer functions and AWGN

Evaluation of SIMD architecture enhancement in embedded processors for MPEG-4

This paper presents our studies on the effects of using SIMD processor extension developed to enhance the processor performance for streaming applications. Our approach was evaluated using MPEG-4 encoding application as benchmark. Although MPEG-4 consists of many different operations, we concentrated on the sum of absolute differences (SAD), a major part of the motion estimation. The SAD was chose

Nano- and Micro-sized Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Particles on Solid Surfaces

Popular Abstract in English Nanoscience and nanotechnology have existed in this world before scientists actually coined the terms. Nature around us and human beings themselves are all made of nanomaterials (1-100 nm), such as DNA, proteins, liposomes, and enzymes. These building blocks possess molecular recognition properties, resulting in their self-assembly to form various two- and three-dimensiMolecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are artificial receptors made by imprinting template molecules in a polymer matrix followed by their removal through washing to obtain a specific and selective template cavities. This property of the MIPs have made them a very efficient material for diverse applications such as chromatography, purification, drug sensing, etc. Recently, zero-dimensional polymer

Fully Integrated Radio over Fiber Downlink for Distributed Multi-antenna Systems in 65nm CMOS

This paper presents a fully integrated downlink for low-cost remote antenna units in fiber-fed distributed multi-antenna systems. To reduce the cost of optical parts, an intermediate frequency(IF) signal is distributed over the fiber, and the circuit consists of an optical receiver, a single side-band frequency up-converting radio transmitter, and LO generation circuitry. The optical to electrical

Identification and characterization of a novel cartilage gene product CILP, which is an early indicator of osteoarthritis.

The aim of this work was to study alterations in the matrix composition of human articular cartilage in different stages of osteoarthritis and to isolate and characterize one of the proteins that is altered in the osteoarthritic process. The metabolism of articular cartilage in different stages of osteoarthritis including early asymptomatic OA was monitored in a culture system of metabolically lab
