Maximally restrictive leptonic texture zeros in two-Higgs-doublet models

The implementation of maximally restrictive texture zeros in the leptonic sector is investigated in the context of two-Higgs-doublet models with Majorana neutrinos. After analyzing all maximally restrictive pairs of leptonic mass matrices with zero entries, we conclude that there are only four texture combinations that are compatible with observations at 3σ confidence level and can be implemented

Action sequencing in the spontaneous swimming behavior of zebrafish larvae - implications for drug development

All motile organisms need to organize their motor output to obtain functional goals. In vertebrates, natural behaviors are generally composed of a relatively large set of motor components which in turn are combined into a rich repertoire of complex actions. It is therefore an experimental challenge to investigate the organizational principles of natural behaviors. Using the relatively simple locom

Differential inhibitory response to telcagepant on αCGRP induced vasorelaxation and intracellular Ca2+ levels in the perfused and non-perfused isolated rat middle cerebral artery

Background: Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is one of the most potent endogenous vasodilators identified to date. The present study elucidates the differential interaction of CGRP, its receptor and the effect of the CGRP-receptor antagonist telcagepant on intracellular Ca2+ -levels and tension in rat middle cerebral arteries (MCA) by pressurized arteriography, FURA-2/wire myography and immu

Reconstruction of primary vertices at the ATLAS experiment in Run 1 proton–proton collisions at the LHC

This paper presents the method and performance of primary vertex reconstruction in proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment during Run 1 of the LHC. The studies presented focus on data taken during 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV. The performance has been measured as a function of the number of interactions per bunch crossing over a wide range, from one to seventy.

Immune response to pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in patients with systemic vasculitis receiving standard of care therapy

Aim: To study the effect of standard of care therapy on antibody response and functionality following immunization with 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in patients with primary systemic vasculitis compared to healthy controls. Methods: 49 patients with vasculitis and 49 controls received a single dose (0.5. ml) PCV13 intramuscularly. Ongoing treatments: azathioprine (AZA; n = 11),

Haemoglobin A1c as a screening tool for type 2 diabetes and prediabetes in populations of Swedish and Middle-East ancestry

Aims: To explore and compare sensitivity and specificity for HbA1c ≥48. mmol/mol as a predictor for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in two populations with different ethnicity and to examine the predictive value of two levels of HbA1c (≥42. mmol/mol, ≥39. mmol/mol) for prediabetes in these populations. Methods: Four cohorts were examined with an oral glucose tolerance test. (1) The MEDIM Study (n

Measurement of the differential cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt production of J/ψ and ψ (2S) in pp collisions at √s = 7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

The production rates of prompt and non-prompt J/ψ and ψ (2S) mesons in their dimuon decay modes are measured using 2.1 and 11.4 fb−1 of data collected with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, in proton– proton collisions at √ s = 7 and 8 respectively. Production cross-sections for prompt as well as non-prompt sources, ratios of ψ (2S) to J/ψ production, and the fractions of nonpromp

Shock metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration of mafic impact ejecta from the Lockne impact structure, Sweden

The local geology at Kloxåsen is characterised by ejecta deposits from the 458 Ma Lockne marine impact. The Kloxåsen ejecta are located on a Caledonian parautochthonous unit, approximately 7 km from the centre of the 7.5-km-wide Lockne crater structure. The ejecta were deposited on the seafloor and were covered with seawater immediately after the impact event. Of special interest is a mafic impact

Anomalous supply of bioessential molybdenum in mid-Proterozoic surface environments

Granites aged 1.9. Ga to 1.5. Ga exhibit molybdenite mineralization globally. Sandstones deposited during the mid-Proterozoic have a provenance dominated by 1.9-1.7. Ga basement. The mid-Proterozoic surface environment was, consequently, receiving detritus from the molybdenum-rich granites. Thus there was a supply of molybdenum available in terrestrial or shallow marine environments at a time when

Elephant Moraine 96029, a very mildly aqueously altered and heated CM carbonaceous chondrite : Implications for the drivers of parent body processing

Elephant Moraine (EET) 96029 is a CM carbonaceous chondrite regolith breccia with evidence for unusually mild aqueous alteration, a later phase of heating and terrestrial weathering. The presence of phyllosilicates and carbonates within chondrules and the fine-grained matrix indicates that this meteorite was aqueously altered in its parent body. Features showing that water-mediated processing was

ADAMTS-7 is associated with a high-risk plaque phenotype in human atherosclerosis

Several large-scale genome-wide association studies have identified single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the genomic region of A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with ThromboSpondin type 1 repeats (ADAMTS)-7 and associations to coronary artery disease. Experimental studies have provided evidence for a functional role of ADAMTS-7 in both injury-induced vascular neointima formation and development of

Construction of a Chassis for a Tripartite Protein-Based Molecular Motor

Improving our understanding of biological motors, both to fully comprehend their activities in vital processes, and to exploit their impressive abilities for use in bionanotechnology, is highly desirable. One means of understanding these systems is through the production of synthetic molecular motors. We demonstrate the use of orthogonal coiled-coil dimers (including both parallel and antiparallel

Relating Sentinel-1 interferometric coherence to mowing events on grasslands

In this study, the interferometric coherence calculated from 12-day Sentinel-1 image pairs was analysed in relation to mowing events on agricultural grasslands. Results showed that after a mowing event, median VH (vertical transmit, horizontal receive) and VV (vertical transmit, vertical receive) polarisation coherence values were statistically significantly higher than those from before the event

Search for heavy resonances decaying to a Z boson and a photon in pp collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This Letter presents a search for new resonances with mass larger than 250 GeV, decaying to a Z boson and a photon. The dataset consists of an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1 of pp collisions collected at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The Z bosons are identified through their decays either to charged, light, lepton pairs (e+e−, μ+μ−) or to hadrons. The data are f

An intra-droplet particle switch for droplet microfluidics using bulk acoustic waves

To transfer cell- and bead-assays into droplet-based platforms typically requires the use of complex microfluidic circuits, which calls for methods to switch the direction of the encapsulated particles. We present a microfluidic chip where the combination of acoustic manipulation at two different harmonics and a trident-shaped dropletsplitter enables direction-switching of microbeads and yeast cel

The Gaia-ESO Survey : Mg-Al anti-correlation in iDR4 globular clusters

We use Gaia-ESO (GES) Survey iDR4 data to explore the Mg-Al anti-correlation in globular clusters that were observed as calibrators, as a demonstration of the quality of Gaia-ESO Survey data and analysis. The results compare well with the available literature, within 0.1 dex or less, after a small (compared to the internal spreads) offset between the UVES and GIRAFFE data of 0.10-0.15 dex was take
