On the political feasibility of climate change mitigation pathways : Is it too late to keep warming below 1.5°C?

Keeping global warming below 1.5°C is technically possible but is it politically feasible? Understanding political feasibility requires answering three questions: (a) “Feasibility of what?,” (b) “Feasibility when and where?,” and (c) “Feasibility for whom?.” In relation to the 1.5°C target, these questions translate into (a) identifying specific actions comprising the 1.5°C pathways; (b) assessing

PET imaging of patients with non-small cell lung cancer employing an EGF receptor targeting drug as tracer

BACKGROUND: We have previously developed (11)C-erlotinib as a new positron emission tomography (PET) tracer and shown that it accumulates in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-positive lung cancer xenografts in mice. Here, we present a study in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) investigating the feasibility of (11)C-erlotinib PET as a potential method for the identification of

Towards Exploring Toxin-Antitoxin Systems in Geobacillus: A Screen for Type II Toxin-Antitoxin System Families in a Thermophilic Genus

The toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems have been attracting attention due to their role in regulating stress responses in prokaryotes and their biotechnological potential. Much recognition has been given to type II TA system of mesophiles, while thermophiles have received merely limited attention. Here, we are presenting the putative type II TA families encoded on the genomes of four Geobacillus strains

(Re-)shaping regional economies : Regional innovation system dynamics and new industrial path development

This dissertation explores the complexities of regional economic restructuring. It casts a light on how regional environments are ‘reconfigured’ in relation to the transformation of existing regional industries and the development of new ones. More specifically, the aim is to advance our understanding of regional innovation system (RIS) reconfiguration in relation to new regional industrial path d

Conceptualizing and Contextualizing Overtourism: the Dynamics of Accelerating Urban Tourism

Purpose: From the background of the dramatic increase of urban tourism, framed by the concept of overtourism, the purpose of this paper is to analyze and discuss current dynamic processes of urban tourism growth, as presented in the scientific literature. With the help of a literature review, this paper aims to discuss current definitions and conceptualizations of overtourism and discuss the drivi

Many-body calculations of two-photon, two-color matrix elements for attosecond delays

We present calculations for attosecond atomic delays in the photoionization of noble-gas atoms based on the full two-color two-photon random-phase approximation with exchange in both the length and velocity gauge. Gauge-invariant atomic delays are demonstrated for the complete set of diagrams. The results are used to investigate the validity of the common assumption that the measured atomic delays

Comparison of outcomes in infected cardiovascular implantable electronic devices between complete, partial, and failed lead removal : an ESC-EHRA-EORP ELECTRa (European Lead Extraction ConTrolled) registry

AIMS: The present study sought to determine predictors for success and outcomes of patients who underwent cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) extraction indicated for systemic or local CIED related infection in particular where complete lead removal could not be achieved.METHODS AND RESULTS: ESC-EORP ELECTRa (European Lead Extraction ConTRolled Registry) is a European prospective lead ex

Promotion by Education : Adolescent Mental Health Policy Translation in a Local Context of China

The purpose of this paper is to describe how Chinese national adolescent mental health policy is translated into local plans and practice by means of the theoretical perspective of the policy triangle. Document analysis of national, provincial andlocal policy documents and semi-structured interviews with local policy actors were performed. National policies were implemented by a top-down process.

The Spatial Experience of the Sky in Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights

Discussions of the sky in the Brontës’ works have tended to limit themselves to the weather, making Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights seem very similar to one another in this regard. If, however, attention instead turns to the sky as a spatial phenomenon, there is a considerable difference between the two novels, symptomatic of a greater difference in the possibility of personal freedom. Thus, while

The Role of Complement in Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury

Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a life-threatening complication of acute respiratory distress occurring within 6 hours of blood transfusion. TRALI is one of the leading causes of transfusion-related fatalities and specific therapies are unavailable. Neutrophils are recognized as the major pathogenic cells, whereas T regulatory cells and dendritic cells appear to be important for p

Calcium-induced apoptosis is delayed by HER1 receptor signalling through the Akt and PLCγ pathways in bladder cancer cells

The level of extracellular calcium has been demonstrated to regulate important physiological processes like cell growth and apoptosis. We demonstrate that in the bladder cancer cell line RT4, an increased extracellular calcium level induces apoptosis and that the HER1 receptor functions as a cell survival factor and delays apoptosis. After 12 h of calcium treatment (10 mM) apoptosis was detected i

The relation between survival and expression of HER1 and HER2 depends on the expression of HER3 and HER4 : a study in bladder cancer patients

Increased expression of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptors, HER1 and HER2 are related to poor prognosis in most cancers studied. Recently, a high expression of the two remaining receptors of the EGF system, HER3 and HER4 has been related to a favourable prognosis. However, prognostic significance of HER1 and HER2 receptors in bladder cancer is controversial and the effect of the expressio

The Return of the Bourgeois : Fanny and Alexander in Swedish Politics

In this essay it is argued that Bergman deviated from his highly critical depictions of bourgeois life in the films of the 1960s and 1970s, from Persona (1966) to the television series Scenes from a Marriage (1973), in Fanny and Alexander (1982), his final contribution to films made for the cinema. Bergman himself came from an upper-class bourgeois background, and by his own account he did not tak
