Effect of Bearing Direction and Mounting Techniques on Cross-Laminated Timber Elements in the Field

Vibration reduction index (Kij ) measurements in the field have some challenges compared to laboratory measurements. Firstly, the measurement requires access to a construction site during the short time span when the cross-laminated timber (CLT) elements are apparent. Secondly, building contractors are often on a tight time schedule. Therefore, it is important to find a solution that minimizes the

Skill-based Multi-objective Reinforcement Learning of Industrial Robot Tasks with Planning and Knowledge Integration

In modern industrial settings with small batch sizes it should be easy to set up a robot system for a new task. Strategies exist, e.g. the use of skills, but when it comes to handling forces and torques, these systems often fall short. We introduce an approach that provides a combination of task-level planning with targeted learning of scenario-specific parameters for skill-based systems. We propo

Age-based entitlement : An ageist practice or a tool for combatting ageism?

Researchers in gerontology have addressed the way age-based arrangements may communicate stereotypical and devaluing images of older people, thereby linking high age to frailty and dependence. The present article considers proposed reforms to the Swedish eldercare system designed to guarantee people over 85 the right to move into a nursing home regardless of their needs. The purpose of the article

Linear Dissipative Force as a Result of Discrete Time Collisions

We consider two models: one describes the particle movement under the influence of external force and friction, and another one describes the movement of a particle, which is acted upon by the same external force but it additionally collides with other particles of much lighter masses. We establish conditions for these two models to be equivalent in some sense. We also considered deterministic and

A fetal tumor suppressor axis abrogates MLL-fusion-driven acute myeloid leukemia

MLL-rearrangements (MLL-r) are recurrent genetic events in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and frequently associate with poor prognosis. In infants, MLL-r can be sufficient to drive transformation. However, despite the prenatal origin of MLL-r in these patients, congenital leukemia is very rare with transformation usually occurring postnatally. The influence of prenatal signals on leukemogenesis, suc

Postcolonial Encounters : Migrant Women and Swedish Midwives

This chapter explores how women and families from different minority ethnic backgrounds are treated within the Swedish welfare state by focusing on a space in which the Swedish welfare state meets migrant families in very powerful ways: the delivery room. It begins with a short overview of the Swedish health care system and the Swedish immigration regime, with a particular focus on the changes tha

Exploring nurses' experiences of a tailored intervention to increase MMR vaccine acceptance in a Somali community in Stockholm, Sweden : a qualitative interview study

OBJECTIVES: To explore nurses' experiences of a tailored intervention that supported them with knowledge and tools to use during encounters and dialogue with parents with low vaccine acceptance. DESIGN: A qualitative study with in-depth interviews conducted in 2017. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. SETTING: This study was part of a multicomponent intervention targeting Somali parents an

The discovery and mass measurement of a new ultra-short-period Planet : K2-131b

We report the discovery of a new ultra-short-period planet and summarize the properties of all such planets for which the mass and radius have been measured. The new planet, K2-131b, was discovered in K2 Campaign 10. It has a radius of and orbits a G dwarf with a period of 8.9 hr. Radial velocities obtained with Magellan/PFS and TNG/HARPS-N show evidence for stellar activity along with orbital mot

K2-106, a system containing a metal-rich planet and a planet of lower density

Aims. Planets in the mass range from 2 to 15 M⊙ are very diverse. Some of them have low densities, while others are very dense. By measuring the masses and radii, the mean densities, structure, and composition of the planets are constrained. These parameters also give us important information about their formation and evolution, and about possible processes for atmospheric loss. Methods. We determ

K2-264 : A transiting multiplanet system in the Praesepe open cluster

Planet host stars with well-constrained ages provide a rare window to the time domain of planet formation and evolution. The NASA K2 mission has enabled the discovery of the vast majority of known planets transiting stars in clusters, providing a valuable sample of planets with known ages and radii. We present the discovery of two planets transiting K2-264, an M2 dwarf in the intermediate age (600

The method consisted of analyzing data from an earlier study which examined personality traits in 101 leaders, as well as performing a literature search for previous research. Previous research shows a connection between the Dark Triad and the desire for power, as wel

TESS's first planet : A super-Earth transiting the naked-eye star π Mensae

We report on the confirmation and mass determination of π Men c, the first transiting planet discovered by NASA's TESS space mission. π Men is a naked-eye (V = 5.65 mag), quiet G0 V star that was previously known to host a sub-stellar companion (π Men b) on a longperiod (Porb = 2091 days), eccentric (e = 0.64) orbit. Using TESS time-series photometry, combined with Gaia data, published UCLES at AA

Super-Earth of 8 M in a 2.2-day orbit around the K5V star K2-216

Context. Although thousands of exoplanets have been discovered to date, far fewer have been fully characterised, in particular super-Earths. The KESPRINT consortium identified K2-216 as a planetary candidate host star in the K2 space mission Campaign 8 field with a transiting super-Earth. The planet has recently been validated as well. Aims. Our aim was to confirm the detection and derive the main

Three Small Planets Transiting a Hyades Star

We present the discovery of three small planets transiting K2-136 (LP 358 348, EPIC 247589423), a late K dwarf in the Hyades. The planets have orbital periods of 7.9757 ± 0.0011, 17.30681-0.00036+0.00034, and 25.5715-0.0040+0.0038 days, and radii of 1.05 ± 0.16, 3.14 ± 0.36, and 1.55-0.21+0.24 R⊕, respectively. With an age of 600-800 Myr, these planets are some of the smallest and youngest transit

Exoplanets around Low-mass Stars Unveiled by K2

We present the detection and follow-up observations of planetary candidates around low-mass stars observed by the K2 mission. Based on light-curve analysis, adaptive-optics imaging, and optical spectroscopy at low and high resolution (including radial velocity measurements), we validate 16 planets around 12 low-mass stars observed during K2 campaigns 5-10. Among the 16 planets, 12 are newly valida

Oxygen Storage by Tin Oxide Monolayers on Pt3Sn(111)

The high performance of platinum-Tin catalysts for oxidation reactions has been linked to the formation of tin oxides at the metal surface, but little is known about the structure of these oxides or the chemical behavior that determines their catalytic properties. We show here how surface oxides on Pt3Sn(111) incorporate oxygen at the metal interface, which may be subsequently removed by reaction

Unilateral Retinitis Pigmentosa Associated with Possible Ciliopathy and a Novel Mutation

Unilateral retinitis pigmentosa (URP) is a rare retinal dystrophy. We describe the clinical course of two patients with (URP) unilateral retinitis pigmentosa confirmed by genetic testing, indicating ciliary dysfunction. Methods: The methods used in this study included a detailed ophthalmic examination, multimodal retinal imaging, Goldmann visual fields, full-field electroretinography (ffERG) and t

Small-molecule-mediated OGG1 inhibition attenuates pulmonary inflammation and lung fibrosis in a murine lung fibrosis model

Interstitial lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are caused by persistent micro-injuries to alveolar epithelial tissues accompanied by aberrant repair processes. IPF is currently treated with pirfenidone and nintedanib, compounds which slow the rate of disease progression but fail to target underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. The DNA repair protein 8-oxoguanine DNA glyc
