Modelling the impacts of climate change on soybeans water use and yields in Ogun-Ona river basin, Nigeria

African countries such as Nigeria are anticipated to be more susceptible to the impacts of climate change due to reliance on rainfed agriculture. In this regard, the impacts of climate change on crop water requirements (CWR), yields and crop water productivity (CWP) of soybean in the Ogun-Ona River Basin, Nigeria, were evaluated for the baseline period (1986–2015) and future period (2021–2099) und

Storage and handling of pretreated lignocellulose affects the redox chemistry during subsequent enzymatic saccharification

The decomposition of lignocellulose in nature, as well as when used as feedstock in industrial settings, takes place in a dynamic system of biotic and abiotic reactions. In the present study, the impact of abiotic reactions during the storage of pretreated lignocellulose on the efficiency of subsequent saccharification was investigated. Abiotic decarboxylation was higher in steam-pretreated wheat

One-dimensional confinement and width-dependent bandgap formation in epitaxial graphene nanoribbons

The ability to define an off state in logic electronics is the key ingredient that is impossible to fulfill using a conventional pristine graphene layer, due to the absence of an electronic bandgap. For years, this property has been the missing element for incorporating graphene into next-generation field effect transistors. In this work, we grow high-quality armchair graphene nanoribbons on the s

Hereditary hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in children and young adults—The value of reevaluating and expanding gene panel analyses

Introduction: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) and early onset cardiomyopathy (CM) in the young will always lead to suspicion of an underlying genetic disorder. Incited by the rapid advances in genetic testing for disease we have revisited families, which previously tested “gene-negative” for familial predominantly pediatric CM, in hopes of finding a causative gene variant. Methods: 10 different familie

Variability in patient characteristics and service provision of interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation : A study using the Swedish national quality registry for pain rehabilitation

OBJECTIVE: To describe the organization, content and dosage of interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation, and the differences in degree of severity of problems of patients admitted to clinical units reporting to a Swedish national quality pain registry, grouped according to unit size and possible affiliation with a university hospital. METHODS: Reports from 31 out of 39 clinical units in Sweden, on in

Oral Treatment With an Engineered Uricase, ALLN-346, Reduces Hyperuricemia, and Uricosuria in Urate Oxidase-Deficient Mice

Limitations in efficacy and/or tolerance of currently available urate-lowering therapies (ULTs), such as oral xanthine oxidase inhibitors, uricosurics, and intravenous uricase agents contribute to the development of refractory gout. Renal excretion is the major route of uric acid elimination, but the intestinal tract plays an increasingly recognized role in urate homeostasis, particularly in chron

Electromagnetic Properties of Heterogeneous Material Structures Produced in 3D-Printers

We demonstrate the design, manufacture, and characterization of an X-band waveguide filter using 3D printer technology. The permittivity of the PLA plastic used in the printer is measured to be 2.3 - 0.01j, with about 4% uniaxial anisotropy. The manufactured filter consists of seven dielectric slabs interspace by air. Measured and simulated results agree very well, which shows the possibility of u

The Right to Property and the European Convention on Human Rights. A Nordic Approach.

Popular Abstract in Swedish Avhandlingen behandlar äganderättens skydd enligt Artikel 1 första tilläggsprotokollet till Europakonventionen om de mänskliga rättigheterna. The Nordic constitutions secure the right to property. A fundamental issue under the constitutional provisions guaranteeing the right to property has traditionally been how to distinguish between interference with property rights which come under their scope and those which do not and hence in principle do not enjoy any constitutional protection. This approach has its counterpart in American const

Random errors in antenna technology

This paper deals with far field effects of random errors in antenna applications, for instance due to manufacturing tolerances. The canonical problem is to study expressions that represent the far field power pattern from a collection of sources with far field amplitude. In this paper, the author shows that it is possible to derive quite general results from an arbitrary probability distribution,

Childhood Health and Labor Market Outcomes in the Case of Type 1 Diabetes

This study investigates the impact of childhood health on labor market outcomes. We used type 1 diabetes as an instrument of health because its cause is multifactorial and it is triggered by a complex combination of genetic and environmental components; its incidence is low and unforeseeable for the individual; and its onset may be considered an exogenous health shock. Using data from the Swedish

Intensive family therapy - a context for hopes put into practice

Popular Abstract in Swedish Denna avhandling handlar om intensiv familjeterapi. Section 1 deals with a presentation of a model for Intensive Family Therapy (IFT) and of the units practising this model. References to research in the field of Family Therapy as well as to relevant theories are made. A theoretical model for describing the functioning of these units is presented. Measuring instruments were developed on the basis of this

Immigrant identities, communities and forms of cultural expression : The Lebanese diaspora in New York, Montreal, and Paris

This dissertation draws on postcolonial understandings in order to offer a sociological analysis of Lebanese immigrants in Montreal, New York City and Paris. I argue that the concept of diaspora provides a framework for understanding Lebanese immigrant experiences, as some immigrants may undergo a process of assimilation while others continue to hold on to their ethnic identities. Proposing that “
