Randall-Sundrum model with a dilaton field at finite temperature
We find exact finite temperature solutions to d=5 Einstein-dilaton gravity with black branes and a Randall-Sundrum 3-brane. We show that there exists a unique generating superpotential for these models. The location of the black brane and the associated Hawking temperature depend on the value of the 3-brane tension, while other parameters are held fixed. The thermodynamics of these solutions are p
First full-scale combined MBBR, coagulation, flocculation, discfilter plant with phosphorus removal in France
The suspended solids (SS) concentrations in effluent from moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBRs) used for secondary biological treatment can be up to 500 mg/L. Microscreens (Drumfilters or Discfilters) can be used as alternatives to traditional clarification or dissolved air flotation to remove SS and total phosphorus (TP). This study shows how a small-scale municipal WWTP for 5,700 population equiva
The effect of maternal body mass index on duration of induced labor
Introduction: Obese primiparous women with induction of labor are at high risk for a cesarean section. There are contradictory results regarding time in induced labor in relation to maternal body mass index (BMI). It is important to characterize the course of induced labor to prevent unnecessary cesarean section. We aimed to evaluate whether the duration of labor was associated with maternal BMI i
A proposed driving cycle for brake emissions investigation for test stand
Particulate matter emission factors from vehicle brakes are difficult to assess directly from the field. Moreover, there is a lack of a standardized cycle and test stand for evaluating brake emissions. For these reasons, a test cycle was developed from real driving data collected from a car. This new test cycle was implemented on an inertia disc brake dynamometer appositely designed for brake part

Risk of hernia formation after radical prostatectomy : a comparison between open and robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy within the prospectively controlled LAPPRO trial
Purpose: In addition to incisional hernia, inguinal hernia is a recognized complication to radical retropubic prostatectomy. To compare the risk of developing inguinal and incisional hernias after open radical prostatectomy compared to robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy. Method: Patients planned for prostatectomy were enrolled in the prospective, controlled LAPPRO trial between September 20
The use of ICD codes to identify IBD subtypes and phenotypes of the Montreal classification in the Swedish National Patient Register
Introduction: Whether data on International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-codes from the Swedish National Patient Register (NPR) correctly correspond to subtypes of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and phenotypes of the Montreal classification scheme among patients with prevalent disease is unknown.Materials and methods: We obtained information on IBD subtypes and phenotypes from the medical re

Extracorporeal photopheresis for graft-vs-host disease : A literature review and treatment guidelines proposed by the Nordic ECP Quality Group
Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) is one of the most used and established therapies for steroid-refractory graft-vs-host disease (GvHD), with a good effect to side effect profile. In this review, we present a summary of present literature and provide evidence-based treatment guidelines for ECP in GvHD. The guidelines constitute a consensus statement formed by the Nordic ECP Quality Group represen
A pin-on-disc investigation of novel nanoporous composite-based and conventional brake pad materials focussing on airborne wear particles
Wear particles originating from disc brakes contribute to particulate concentration in the urban atmosphere. In this work novel nanoporous composite-based and conventional brake materials were tested against cast-iron discs in a modified pin-on-disc machine. During testing airborne wear particles were measured online and collected on filters, which were analysed using SEM and EDX. The morphology o
External quality assessment of noninvasive fetal RHD genotyping
Background and objectives: Fetal RHD genotyping of cell-free maternal plasma DNA from RhD negative pregnant women can be used to guide targeted antenatal and postnatal anti-D prophylaxis for the prevention of RhD immunization. To assure the quality of clinical testing, we conducted an external quality assessment workshop with the participation of 31 laboratories. Materials and methods: Aliquots of
Nanoplastics in the aquatic environment
Plastics contribute the most to the ever-growing buildup of pollution in Earth’s water bodies. In the aquatic environment, plastic essentially exists in multiple forms before and following passage to nature depending on its synthetic pathway and succeeding degree of fragmentation or degradation, and includes bulk material, as well as nanosized particles. It is of utmost importance to understand th
Machinability evaluation of low-lead brass alloys
The machinability of brass is considered to increase with the addition of lead as an alloying element. Due to both environmental and health reasons, the decrease of lead in brass components is of high importance. Several mechanical and thermal material properties control a materials machinability, in combination with the chosen machining system. To evaluate the difference in machinability between
Health-related quality of life after surviving an out-of-hospital compared to an in-hospital cardiac arrest : A Swedish population-based registry study
Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has been reported for out-hospital (OHCA) and in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) separately, but potential differences between the two groups are unknown. The aim of this study is therefore to describe and compare HRQoL in patients surviving OHCA and IHCA. Methods: Patients ≥18 years with Cerebral Performance Category 1–3 included in the Swedish Re
A Factorial Design to Numerically Study the Effects of Brake Pad Properties on Friction and Wear Emissions
Airborne particulate emissions originating from the wear of pads and rotors of disc brakes contribute up to 50% of the total road emissions in Europe. The wear process that takes place on a mesoscopic length scale in the contact interfaces between the pads and rotors can be explained by the creation and destruction of contact plateaus. Due to this complex contact situation, it is hard to predict h
A comparison of measured and simulated friction, wear, and particle emission of disc brakes
Airborne wear particles originating from disc brakes are among the main contributors to non-exhaust emissions. The macroscopic wear behaviour of disc brakes can be explained by the growth and destruction of mesoscopic contact plateaus. The pad wear and temperature has earlier been simulated using a cellular automaton mesoscopic approach. The present paper seeks to refine the simulation approach to
Implementing the law of khul’ in Egypt: Tensions and ambiguities in Muslim Family Law
This article aims to contribute to the growing scholarly literature on the implementation of shariʿa-based family law codes by describing and analyzing the gender implications of religiously inspired judicial activism in relation to judicial divorce through khulʿ. The article highlights two functions played by family court judges and other legal professionals. First, I argue that Egyptian family c
Bivalirudin Versus Heparin Monotherapy in Elderly Patients With Myocardial Infarction : A Prespecified Subgroup Analysis of the VALIDATE-SWEDEHEART Trial
BACKGROUND: Elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention are at increased risk of both ischemic and bleeding complications. The optimal anticoagulation strategy in these patients is uncertain. Therefore, we compared bivalirudin to heparin monotherapy in a contemporary cohort of such patients. METHODS: A prespecified subgroup analysis of elderly pa
A versatile, low-cost, snapshot multidimensional imaging approach based on structured light
The behaviour and function of dynamic samples can be investigated using optical imaging approaches with high temporal resolution and multidimensional acquisition. Snapshot techniques have been developed in order to meet these demands, however they are often designed to study a specific parameter, such as spectral properties, limiting their applicability. Here we present and demonstrate a frequency
