Photoemission from alpha and beta phases of the GaAs(001)-c(4 x 4) surface
We prepared alpha- and beta surface phases of GaAs(0 0 1)-c(4 x 4) reconstruction by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) using As-4 and As-2 molecular beams, respectively, and examined them by angle-resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with synchrotron radiation as an excitation source. The UPS valence band spectra and the XPS 3d core level data
Relations between Volume Flexibility and Part Cost in Assembly Lines
This paper presents a strategy for achieving volume flexibility in assembly lines, so that varying production demands can be met. The strategy involves providing assembly lines inherent cycle-time flexibility, through creating the possibility for operators to handle multiple work stations. A basic part-cost model serves as a basis for analyzing the cost effects of different staffing alternatives,

Ultra-Wideband Wireless Channels - Estimation, Modeling and Material Characterization
This licentiate thesis is focused on the characterization of ultra-wideband wireless channels. The thesis presents results on ultra-wideband communications as well as on the ultra-wideband characterization of materials. The communications related work consisted in the measurement and modeling of outdoor scenarios envisioned for infostation systems. By infostation, we mean a communication system co

Radioactivity Exploration from the Arctic to the Antarctic
This book is dedicated to professor emeritus Bengt Forkman (Nuclear Physics, Lund University) who in 1979 took the initiative to arrange an environmental radioactivity research program for the Ymer-80 expedition. He engaged his old friend Bertil Persson whom he during the 1960th inspired to university studies in Lund who just been promoted to professor of Radioecology at the Swedish University of
Pay-What-You-Want pricing schemes: A self-image perspective
Pay-What-You-Want (PWYW) pricing schemes are becoming increasingly popular. We develop a model incorporating self-image into the buyer’s utility function and introduce heterogeneity in consumption utility and image-sensitivity, generating different purchase decisions and optimal prices across individuals. When a good’s fixed price is lower than a threshold fair value, PWYW can lead to a lower util
Cost development of future technologies for power generation - A study based on experience curves and complementary bottom-up assessments
Technology foresight studies have become an important tool in identifying realistic ways of reducing the impact of modern energy systems on the climate and the environment. Studies on the future cost development of advanced energy technologies are of special interest. One approach widely adopted for the analysis of future cost is the experience curve approach. The question is, however, how robust
Nuclear medicine technologists are able to accurately determine when a myocardial perfusion rest study is necessary.
ABSTRACT:
Clinical pharmacokinetics of AZD3199, an inhaled ultra-long-acting β2-adrenoreceptor agonist (uLABA).
The clinical pharmacokinetics of AZD3199, an ultra-long-acting β2-agonist, were investigated in healthy volunteers and patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The Danish Agricultural Revolution in an Energy Perspective : a case of development with few energy resources
We examine the case of Denmark - a country which historically had next to no domestic energy resources - for which we present new historical energy accounts for the years 1800-1913. We demonstrate that Denmark’s take off at the end of the nineteenth century was relatively energy dependent. We relate this to her well-known agricultural transformation and development through the dairy industry, and
Search for single top quark production at HERA
A search for single top quark production is performed in the full e(+/-)p data sample collected by the H1 experiment at HERA, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 474 pb(-1). Decays of top quarks into a b quark and a W boson with Subsequent leptonic or hadronic decay of the W are investigated. A multivariate analysis is performed to discriminate top quark production from Standard Model bac
Rapid turns in European renewable energy policy: advocacy and framing of the proposed trading of guarantees of origin
The EU has assumed ambitious targets and strategies for the promotion of renewable sources of energy (RES) binding to all its member states. This report examines the proposed EU-wide policy instrument designed to help achieve the targets on renewable electricity and heat - the trading of Guarantees of Origin (GO). It analyses the rise and fall of the GO trading proposal in the European policy-maki
Using Rose's metal alloy as a pinhole collimator material in preclinical small-animal imaging: A Monte Carlo evaluation.
Pinhole collimation is the most common method of high-resolution preclinical single photon emission computed tomography imaging. The collimators are usually constructed from dense materials with high atomic numbers, such as gold and platinum, which are expensive and not always flexible in the fabrication step. In this work, the authors have investigated the properties of a fusible alloy called Ros
The stimulating effect of apatite on ectomycorrhizal growth diminishes after PK fertilization
The objective of this study was to test if apatite amendment stimulates growth of ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi and if this is influenced by the phosphorus status of the forest. The production of EM mycelia was estimated in four Norway spruce forests in south-western Sweden by incubating sand-filled mesh bags (with or without apatite amendment) in the soil for 8 or 20 months. Fungal biomass in the me
Structure and Stability of the Spinach Aquaporin SoPIP2;1 in Detergent Micelles and Lipid Membranes
Background: SoPIP2;1 constitutes one of the major integral proteins in spinach leaf plasma membranes and belongs to the aquaporin family. SoPIP2;1 is a highly permeable and selective water channel that has been successfully overexpressed and purified with high yields. In order to optimize reconstitution of the purified protein into biomimetic systems, we have here for the first time characterized
Representation of the Impact of Smoke on Agent Walking Speeds in Evacuation Models
This paper addresses the problem of reproducing the effect of different visibility conditions on people’s walking speed when using evacuation models. In particular, different strategies regarding the use of default settings and embedded data-sets are investigated. Currently, the correlation between smoke and walking speed is typically based on two different sets of experimental data produced by (1
Drift study of SU8 cantilevers in liquid and gaseous environments
We present a study of the drift, in terms of cantilever deflections without probe/target interactions, of polymeric SU8 cantilevers. The drift is measured in PBS buffer (pH 7.4) and under vacuum (1mbar) conditions. We see that the cantilevers display a large drift in both environments. We believe this is because the polymer matrix absorbs liquid in one situation whereas it is being degassed in the
