We have investigated pre-travel advice, behaviour, chemoprophylaxis and diagnostic delay in travellers returning to Sweden with falciparum malaria. Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates of serotypes 1, 4, 6B, 7F, 14, and 19F belonging to clonal types with known invasive disease potential in humans were used to infect C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice.
