Application of automated video analysis for behavioural studies: concept and experience

Lund University, Sweden, is developing a video analysis system for making long-term behavioural studies, primarily in complex urban environments. Road users are detected using the KLT (Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi) interest point tracker. Trajectories are estimated using foreground–background segmentation, whereas speed is estimated using the shape analysis of interest points. The extracted trajectories ar

Abstract in DanishPolitically enforced closing down and relocations of nursing homes are common in many municipalities. Through the construction of a specific nursing home relocation and interviews with the staff, residents, and relatives, this article describes how the relocation has occurred and has been handled as seen from the perspectives of both the elderly, their relatives, and the staff, a

Insecurity and lack of control in a changing organization

The working life of today is characterized by a changing environment with heavier workload, lack of control, temporary work contracts and decreased workplace support. In recent years there has been a growing interest in studying the impact of insecure employment and several studies show that organizational changes and downsizing have negative consequences for the employees. Some authors argue that

Condon's model on optical rotatory power and causality - a scientific trifle

In this paper some of the consequences of the model for optical activity suggested by Condon are analyzed. The scattering problem is solved for a semiinfinite and a finite homogeneous slab, respectively. Specifically, the noncausal effects of this model are demonstrated. These effects are disturbingly large for many materials and the model has to be discarded as unphysical. The rotation of the pol

Joint Wheel-Slip and Vehicle-Motion Estimation Based on Inertial, GPS, and Wheel-Speed Sensors

Joint wheel-slip and vehicle-motion estimation is considered, based on measurements from wheel encoders, an inertial measurement unit, and a global positioning system (GPS). The proposed strategy effectively employs the Rao-Blackwellized particle-filtering framework using a kinematic model. Key vari- ables in active safety systems, such as longitudinal velocity, roll angle, and wheel slip for all

Searching for tailbiting codes with large minimum distances

Tailbiting trellis representations of linear block codes with an arbitrary sectionalization of the time axis are studied. A new lower bound on the maximal state complexity of an arbitrary tailbiting code is derived. The asymptotic behavior of the derived bound is investigated. Some new tailbiting representations for linear block codes of rates R=1/c, c=2,3,4 are presented
