Spectroscopy of neutron deficient Ge-65

Excited states of Ge-65 were populated via the C-12 + Ni-58 (261 MeV) reaction using the NORDBALL detector array equipped with charged-particle and neutron detector systems for reaction channel separation. On the basis of yy-coincidence relations and angular distribution ratios a significantly extended level scheme was constructed up to E-x = 9 MeV and J(pi) = (33/2(-)). The low-energy states of t

Spatial representation of evolving anisotropy at large strains

A phenomenological model for evolving anisotropy at large strains is presented. The model is formulated using spatial quantities and the anisotropic properties of the material is modeled by including structural variables. Evolution of anisotropy is accounted for by introducing substructural deformation gradients which are linear maps similar to the usual deformation gradient. The evolution of the

On the Under-Pressure in the Pore Water of Sealed High Performance Concrete, HPC

This article outlines an experimental and numerical study on the estimation of under-pressure in the pore water of HPC. For this purpose 96 sealed cylinders made of 8 HPCs with w/c varying between 0.25 and 0.38, based on low-alkali Portland Cement, were manufactured. Five or ten per cent silica fume was used in the HPCs as calculated on the basis of the cement content. Basic creep was studied on t

Comparison of water-soluble CdTe nanoparticles synthesized in air and in nitrogen

It is commonly believed that high-quality CdTe nanoparticles with strong luminescence can only be prepared under the protection of an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon. Here, we report the preparation of highly luminescent CdTe nnaoparticles in air and compare their luminescence properties with CdTe nanoparticles made in nitrogen. We find that both water-soluble CdTe nanoparticles made in air an

Conceptual Runoff Models for Material Transport Estimations

Catchment-scale material transport models are today important tools for water and environmental management. However, modelling of material transport is extremely complex due to the physical, chemical and biological processes involved. The complexity calls for spatial distribution and thereby a need for large amounts of input data that generally are not available. Lumped models based on conceptual

Time-dependent quantum transport: A practical scheme using density functional theory

We present a computationally tractable scheme of time-dependent transport phenomena within open-boundary time-dependent density functional theory. Within this approach all the response properties of a system are determined from the time propagation of the set of "occupied" Kohn-Sham orbitals under the influence of the external bias. This central idea is combined with an open-boundary description o

Prognostic factors in soft tissue sarcoma - Tissue microarray for immunostaining, the importance of whole-tumor sections and time-dependence

In adult soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities and trunk wall, improved prognostic factors are needed to identify patients at high-risk for metastasis. Various factors are included in the many prognostic systems currently in use and the prognostic value of immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of biological markers is unclear. The tissue-preserving, high throughput tissue microarray (TMA) te

Guided wave propagation in three-layer pavement structures

A study on guided waves in a. layered half-space with large velocity contrasts and a decreasing velocity with depth is presented. Multiple mode dispersion curves are calculated in the complex wave number domain, taking into consideration the attenuation caused by leakage into the underlying half-space. The excitability of the modes by a vertical point force on the surface is also calculated. Resul

Differential changes in the association and dissociation rate constants for binding of cystatins to target proteinases occurring on N-terminal truncation of the inhibitors indicate that the interaction mechanism varies with different enzymes

The importance of the N-terminal region of human cystatin C or chicken cystatin for the kinetics of interactions of the inhibitors with four cysteine proteinases was characterized. The association rate constants for the binding of recombinant human cystatin C to papain, ficin, actinidin and recombinant rat cathepsin B were 1.1 x 10(7), 7.0 x 10(6), 2.4 x 10(6) and 1.4 x 10(6) M-1.s-1, whereas the

Associations between smoking and beta-cell function in a non-hypertensive and non-diabetic population. Skaraborg Hypertension and Diabetes Project

AIMS: An increased risk for Type 2 diabetes in male and female smokers has been associated with insulin resistance. However, this might also be the result of an adverse effect on the beta-cell. The aim of the present study was to examine the association between smoking and beta-cell function. METHODS: A community-based, cross-sectional observation study. In 1994, a randomized age-stratified sample

The morselized and impacted bone graft. Animal experiments on proteins, impaction and load

The results of primary hip replacements are good. However, dealing with a loose prosthesis has been problematic, especially when major bone deficiencies are encountered. These problems appear to have been solved by the introduction of the Slooff-Ling method of using morselized and impacted allograft chips. The clinical results are excellent in the hands of the innovators. However, it remains confu

Ett fall där objektet inte kan stå i fundamentet

Restrictions of what is in first position in a Swedish declarative clause are usually textual or pragmatic, very seldom grammatical. In this paper I discuss one case of this type, the fact that the indirect object cannot be in sentence initial position in passive of ditransitive verbs where the DP corresponding to the direct object has been promoted to subject, as in (i): (1) *Johan har det här jo

Objective To explore the feasibility of retroviral-mediated Flt 3 ligand (FL) and thrombopoietin (Tpo) genes transferred into and expressed in a bone marrow stromal cell line HFCL by internal ribosome entry site(IRES)sequence. Methods IRES sequence, FL and Tpo cDNA were recombined with retroviral vector pLXSN by gene recombination technology. The recombinant plasmid was transferred into retrovirus

Influence of factor V Leiden on the development of neovascularisation secondary to central retinal vein occlusion.

Aims: To investigate if the presence of factor V Leiden has an influence on the prognosis in central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Methods: 166 patients with CRVO were studied retrospectively. They were tested for factor V Leiden using DNA analysis. The presence of the mutation was studied in correlation with the development of neovascular complications 1 year after the thrombotic event.
