Can robotic-assisted surgery support enhanced recovery programs?

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols comprise a multimodal approach to optimize patient outcome and recovery. ERAS guidelines recommend minimally invasive surgery (MIS) when possible. Key components in MIS include preoperative patient education and optimization; multimodal and narcotic-sparing analgesia; prophylactic measures regarding nausea, infection, and venous thrombosis; maintena

Integration of a Frost Mortality Scheme Into the Demographic Vegetation Model FATES

Frost is damaging to plants when air temperature drops below their tolerance threshold. The set of mechanisms used by cold-tolerant plants to withstand freezing is called “hardening” and typically take place in autumn to protect against winter damage. The recent incorporation of a hardening scheme in the demographic vegetation model FATES opens up the possibility to investigate frost mortality to

CSR in Times of Crisis – A multiple case study on the effect of COVID-19 on companies’ approach to CSR initiatives

Title: CSR in Times of Crisis – A multiple case study on the effect of COVID-19 on companies’ approach to CSR initiatives Seminar Date: June 1, 2023 Authors: Danira Numanspahic and Johan Welin Supervisor: Merle Jacob Course: BUSN09 - Degree Project in Strategic Management Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explore potential changes in two different Nordic industries’ approaches to CSR-relat

Are Roles The ‘Salt and Pepper’ of Ecosystems?

Purpose: The thesis aims to address the different roles incumbent firms can take in the emerging plant-based ecosystem and to contribute with new understandings related to these ecosystems. Theoretical framework: The theoretical foundation for the thesis is rooted in theories on systems thinking, ecosystems and with a discussion around the roles that are inherent in ecosystems. This is accompanie

The prevalence of having coeliac disease in children with type 1 diabetes was not significantly higher during the Swedish coeliac epidemic

Aim: From 1986 to 1996, there was a four-fold increase in coeliac disease among young Swedish children, known as the Swedish coeliac epidemic. Children with type 1 diabetes have an increased risk of developing coeliac disease. We studied whether the prevalence of coeliac disease differed in children with type 1 diabetes born during and after this epidemic. Methods: We compared national birth cohor

The New Trade Union Model: A Strategic Action Field Approach to the Trade Union Organization of Umbrella Company Workers in Sweden

This thesis analyses a new trade union model for umbrella company workers and the changes in the field of trade unions in Sweden. By conceptualizing trade unions as collective actors within strategic action fields I describe and explain how a small independent trade union and challenger in the field, Säljarnas Riksförbund, has managed to construct a new trade union model for umbrella company worke

Nationalisation of the Sacred : Orthodox historiography, memory, and politics in Montenegro

The Eastern Orthodox Churches in post-communist Eastern Europe are embroiled in long-running conflicts over ownership of territory, saints, sites, nations, and history. These often violent conflicts reflect political and national rivalries, most explicitly in former Yugoslavia and Ukraine. They are often understood as simplified ethnic-national tensions with religious overtones, but, as this book

Nature and Origin of Magnetic Lineations Within Valdivia Bank : Ocean Plateau Formation by Complex Seafloor Spreading

Valdivia Bank (VB) is a Late Cretaceous oceanic plateau formed by volcanism from the Tristan-Gough hotspot at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR). To better understand its origin and evolution, magnetic data were used to generate a magnetic anomaly grid, which was inverted to determine crustal magnetization. The magnetization model reveals quasi-linear polarity zones crossing the plateau and following ex

Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease in Type 2 Diabetes : A Retrospective, Observational Study of Economic and Clinical Burden in Sweden

Introduction: Individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are at high risk of experiencing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), which is associated with morbidity, mortality and healthcare resource utilisation. Clinical guidelines recommend the use of glucose-lowering medications with cardiovascular benefits in individuals with T2D and cardiovascular disease, but there is evidence that this

Amino Acid Synthesis Deficiencies

In recent years the list of disorders affecting amino acid synthesis has grown rapidly. Not only the number of defects has increased, but also the associated clinical phenotypes have expanded spectacular, the latter mainly due to the advances of next-generation sequencing diagnostics. An important reason for the contribution of NGS in the diagnosis of amino acid synthesis disorders is the fact tha

Water, Sanitation, and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes in Mali: A Study of Early Neonatal Mortality and Low Birth Weight

This thesis investigates the link between the water and sanitation environment mothers are exposed to during pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcomes in Mali, specifically early neonatal mortality and low birth weight. The motivation and contribution for this analysis is that little research has been done on this topic, specifically in the Sub-Saharan African region and with the combination of tho

Predicting dust storm susceptibility: exploring control strategies with XGBoost models

Dust storms are meteorological phenomena that occur in arid and semi-arid regions, causing harm to the environment and human health. The frequency and intensity of dust storms have increased in recent years due to climate change and human activities. In response, various dust storm mitigation strategies were introduced, including land use management, afforestation, and mulching. The existing resea

Vanadium oxide and a sharp onset of cold-trapping on a giant exoplanet

The abundance of refractory elements in giant planets can provide key insights into their formation histories1. Owing to the low temperatures of the Solar System giants, refractory elements condense below the cloud deck, limiting sensing capabilities to only highly volatile elements2. Recently, ultra-hot giant exoplanets have allowed for some refractory elements to be measured, showing abundances
