A model-based methodology for the analysis and design of atomic layer deposition processes—Part III: Constrained multi-objective optimization

This paper presents a structured methodology for the constrained multi-objective optimization (MO) of a continuous cross-flow atomic layer deposition (ALD) reactor model with temporal precursor pulsing. The process model has been elaborated and experimentally validated in the first two papers of this series (33 and 34). A general constrained MO problem (MOP) was formulated to simultaneously optimi

Inverse problems for Aharonov-Bohm rings

The inverse problem for Schrodinger operators on metric graphs is investigated in the presence of magnetic field. Graphs without loops and with Euler characteristic zero are considered. It is shown that the knowledge of the Tachmarsh-Weyl matrix function (Dirichletto-Neumann map) for just two values of the magnetic field allows one to reconstruct the graph and potential on it provided a certain ad

Swedish business research productivity

Sweden experienced an increase in the ratio of granted patents to research and development spending (R&D) between 1989 and 1998, a period when R&D spending grew rapidly. The ratio of patents granted to R&D spending (research productivity) increased by 40% over the period, and the ratio of quality-adjusted patents to R&D exhibited an even more impressive increase of 60%. Sectors wit

Current and historical drivers of landscape genetic structure differ in core and peripheral salamander populations

With predicted decreases in genetic diversity and greater genetic differentiation at range peripheries relative to their cores, it can be difficult to distinguish between the roles of current disturbance versus historic processes in shaping contemporary genetic patterns. To address this problem, we test for differences in historic demography and landscape genetic structure of coastal giant salaman

A dimerized single-chain variable fragment system for the assessment of neutralizing activity of phage display-selected antibody fragments specific for cytomegalovirus.

Abstract in UndeterminedCytomegalovirus (CMV) causes severe sequelae in congenitally infected newborns and may cause life-threatening disease in immuno-deficient patients. Recent findings demonstrate the possibility to alleviate the disease by infusing intravenous immunoglobulin G (IgG) preparations, indicating that antibodies are an effective therapeutic option. Modern molecular methodologies, li

Weight loss in Huntington disease increases with higher CAG repeat number

Objective: Huntington disease (HD) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expanded number of CAG repeats in the huntingtin gene. A hallmark of HD is unintended weight loss, the cause of which is unknown. In order to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of weight loss in HD, we studied its relation to other disease characteristics including motor, cognitive, and behavioral disturban

Revisiting Strawsonian Arguments from Inescapability

Peter Strawson defends the thesis that determinism is irrelevant to the justifiability of responsibility-attributions. In this paper, I want to examine various arguments advanced by Strawson in support of this thesis. These arguments all draw on the thought that the practice of responsibility is inescapable. My main focus is not so much the metaphysical details of Strawsonian compatibilism, but ra

Laminar burning velocity of hydrogen and flame structure of related fuels for detailed kinetic model validation

Popular Abstract in English The word “combustion” describes a number of physical and chemical processes, whose common characteristic is an interaction between fuel and oxygen and their subsequent transformation into products, such as CO2 and water. Even though the process is often described as a single chemical reaction between fuel and oxygen, in reality, their chemical transformation requires maThe laminar burning velocity and the flame structure are common targets for combustion studies aimed at detailed kinetic model development. In the present work, fuels relevant to hydrogen combustion were considered. The laminar burning velocity of rich and lean hydrogen flames was studied experimentally and numerically, including its pressure dependence in rich mixtures and temperature dependence

Effect of various dating formulae on sonographic estimation of gestational age in extremely preterm infants

Objectives Gestational age (GA) is one of the most important obstetric factors and prediction of date of delivery is usually based on ultrasonographic fetal measurements. Our aim was to determine whether applying three different dating formulae to a cohort of extremely preterm infants influenced the estimation of their GA. Methods This was a study of 513 infants delivered before 27 gestational wee

Transference of Vector-valued Multipliers on Weighted L-P-spaces

New transference results for Fourier multiplier operators defined by regulated symbols are presented. We prove restriction and extension of multipliers between weighted Lebesgue spaces with two different weights, which belong to a class more general than periodic weights, and two different exponents of integrability that can be below one. We also develop some ad-hoc methods that apply to weights d

Transverse electron beam imaging system using visible synchrotron radiation at MAX III

The diagnostic beam line at the MAX III synchrotron light source utilizes the synchrotron radiation (SR) in the visible to ultraviolet range to form images of the transverse electron beam profile. The emission and subsequent propagation and focusing of the SR is modeled, taking into account effects such as diffraction and the longitudinally distributed SR generation. A detailed description of the

Response to cholinesterase inhibitors affects lifespan in Alzheimer's disease.

Background: A varying response to cholinesterase inhibitor (ChEI) treatment has been reported among patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Whether the individual-specific response, specific ChEI agent or dose affects mortality is unclear. We aimed to examine the relationship between the 6-month response to ChEI and lifespan. Methods: Six hundred and eighty-one deceased patients with a clinical AD

Growth and segregation of GaAs-AlxIn1-xP core-shell nanowires

The development of a ternary AlxIn1-xP shell grown around GaAs nanowires epitaxially grown in the [(1) over bar (1) over bar (1) over bar] direction has been studied. Morphology and composition of the shell have been studied using cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The side facets of the shell are found to develop dominant {1 (1) over bar 0} macro facets with small (approx. 5

Hepatitis C virus infection in patients receiving opiate substitution therapy in Sweden.

Den ständigt pågående inflammation som virusinfektionen orsakar iThe hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a blood borne virus effectively spread through injection practices. Consequently, people who inject drugs (PWID) are at the center of the current HCV epidemic in industrialized countries, with regards both to prevalence and incidence. Through progressive liver fibrosis, chronic HCV infection conveys a substantial risk of liver cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease. T

Solvent Dependence of the Electronic Structure of I- and I-3(-)

We present synchrotron-based I4d photoelectron spectroscopy experiments of solutions from LiI and LiI3 in water, ethanol, and acetonitrile. The experimentally determined solvent-induced binding energy shifts (SIBES) for the monatomic I- anion are compared to predictions from simple Born theory, PCM calculations, as well as multiconfigurational quantum chemical spectral calculations from geometries

Extreme-right responses to the European economic crisis in Denmark and Sweden : the discursive construction of scape-goats and lodestars

This article examines extreme-right online media as a site of discursive struggle over definitions of the causes, consequences and remedies of the European economic crisis. The authors focus on two Scandinavian countries, Denmark and Sweden, which have seen a rise in extreme-right activities across different arenas and in different media in the turbulent years since the collapse of global financia

A1M: a heme and radical binding protein. A study on structure, function and mechanisms

This thesis describes functional and structural studies of the human protein α1-microglobulin (A1M), an evolutionarily well-conserved 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein mainly synthesized in the liver. A1M belongs to the lipocalin protein family. Lipocalins share a very similar structur, an 8-stranded β-barrel forming a hydrophobic pocket. A1M has reductase and radical scavenging properties. A1M als
