Mapping geographical inequalities in oral rehydration therapy coverage in low-income and middle-income countries, 2000-17

BACKGROUND: Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is a form of oral rehydration therapy (ORT) for diarrhoea that has the potential to drastically reduce child mortality; yet, according to UNICEF estimates, less than half of children younger than 5 years with diarrhoea in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) received ORS in 2016. A variety of recommended home fluids (RHF) exist as alternative f

Representation of intimate partner violence against women in Swedish news media: a discourse analysis.

Despite being rated as some of the world’s most gender equal countries, Sweden and neighboring Nordic nations show high rates of intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW). As the news media contribute to the shaping of public attitudes, this article pursues a two-step discourse analysis of how IPVAW was represented in seven Swedish newspapers during 2018. Although an individualistic discours

Independent Validation of Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Prognostic Scores Incorporating Epigenetic and Transcriptional Biomarkers With Gene-Gene Interactions and Main Effects

Background: DNA methylation and gene expression are promising biomarkers of various cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Besides the main effects of biomarkers, the progression of complex diseases is also influenced by gene-gene (G×G) interactions. Research Question: Would screening the functional capacity of biomarkers on the basis of main effects or interactions, using multiomi

Displaced femoral neck fractures in patients 60-69 years old – mortality and patient reported outcomes in a register cohort

Trots detta uppvisade denna grupp BackgroundSeveral randomized studies have compared arthroplasty and internal fixation (IF) and found better patient reported outcome measure (PROM) and fewer reoperations for arthroplasty. But consensus is lacking regarding which method to use in the "young elderly” patients aged 60-69; IF tend to fail in up to 1/3 of the cases but can offer the benefits of a biologically intact hip if successful.

Current and future costs of obesity in Sweden

Background: Obesity is a growing health issue. This study estimated the costs of obesity among people aged 25–84 years in Sweden using disease and non-disease specific attributable fractions from published data. A prognosis of costs of obesity in 2030 is presented. Methods and materials: Diseases related to obesity and their respective risks and population attributable fraction were retrieved by l

Rotation cropping and organic fertilizer jointly promote soil health and crop production

Identifying field management practices to promote crop production, while conserving soil health is essential to maintain long-term food production in a changing world. Also, providing experimental evidence to support the use of traditional agricultural practices is necessary to secure sustainable agriculture. Here, we conducted a long-term 12-year experiment to investigate the impact of different

The EC-Earth3 Earth system model for the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6

The Earth system model EC-Earth3 for contributions to CMIP6 is documented here, with its flexible coupling framework, major model configurations, a methodology for ensuring the simulations are comparable across different high-performance computing (HPC) systems, and with the physical performance of base configurations over the historical period. The variety of possible configurations and sub-model

Characteristics of Recurrent Ischemic Stroke after Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source : Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial

Importance: The concept of embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) unifies a subgroup of cryptogenic strokes based on neuroimaging, a defined minimum set of diagnostic tests, and exclusion of certain causes. Despite an annual stroke recurrence rate of 5%, little is known about the etiology underlying recurrent stroke after ESUS. Objective: To identify the stroke subtype of recurrent ischemic

Development of novel hybridized models for urban flood susceptibility mapping

Floods in urban environments often result in loss of life and destruction of property, with many negative socio-economic effects. However, the application of most flood prediction models still remains challenging due to data scarcity. This creates a need to develop novel hybridized models based on historical urban flood events, using, e.g., metaheuristic optimization algorithms and wavelet analysi

Synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers using a functionalized initiator for chiral-selective recognition of propranolol

We present a new concept of synthesis for preparation of molecularly imprinted polymers using a functionalized initiator to replace the traditional functional monomer. Using propranolol as a model template, a carboxyl‐functionalized radical initiator was demonstrated to lead to high‐selectivity polymer particles prepared in a standard precipitation polymerization system. When a single enantiomer o

Inorganic ligands-mediated hole attraction and surface structuralreorganization in InP/ZnS QD photocatalysts studied via ultrafast visibleand midinfrared spectroscopies

Photoinduced carrier dynamical processes dominate the optical excitation properties of photocatalysts and further determine the photocatalytic performance. In addition, as the electrons generally possess a faster transfer rate than holes, hole transfer and accumulation are critical, and they play the key efficiency-limiting step during the photocatalytic process. Therefore, a comprehensive underst

Benchmarking plant diversity of Palaearctic grasslands and other open habitats

Aims: Understanding fine-grain diversity patterns across large spatial extents is fundamental for macroecological research and biodiversity conservation. Using the GrassPlot database, we provide benchmarks of fine-grain richness values of Palaearctic open habitats for vascular plants, bryophytes, lichens and complete vegetation (i.e., the sum of the former three groups). Location: Palaearctic biog

The Opportunity of Proteomics to Advance the Understanding of Intra- and Extracellular Regulation of Malignant Hematopoiesis

Fetal and adult hematopoiesis are regulated by largely distinct sets of cell-intrinsic gene regulatory networks as well as extracellular cues in their respective microenvironment. These ontogeny-specific programs drive hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in fetus and adult to divergent susceptibility to initiation and progression of hematological malignancies, such as leukemia. Elucida

Mixed Phenotype/Lineage Leukemia : Has Anything Changed for 2021 on Diagnosis, Classification, and Treatment?

Purpose of Review: Recent advances in the small field of the rare mixed phenotype acute leukemias (MPAL) are presented focusing on a better understanding of their pathophysiology and search for better therapeutic approaches. Recent Findings: Three aspects of respective classification, therapy, and immunophenotype of MPAL are reviewed. New proposals have been made to segregate MPAL subtypes based o

Data analysis for discovering the protein profile dynamics of the human ovarian follicular fluid and BRAF mutated metastatic melanoma tissue. : -

Proteomics is widely utilized to understand the function of cellular processes at the molecular level. Using liquid chromatography interfaced with mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based proteomics, thousands of proteins can be identified and quantified in a single experiment and their relationship and interactions can be analyzed. This makes the analysis of high-throughput proteomics data a cornerstone i

A novel model for glaze ice accretion

This paper introduces a novel model to predict ice accretion in glaze ice conditions due to supercooled water droplets. Glaze icing is controlled by a large number of interacting physical phenomena. The purpose of the suggested model was to offer a faster alternative to explicitly modelling these phenomena. The paper presents the suggested model and investigates the sensitivity of the predictions
