On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA. Antiproliferative spermine-binding DS fragments (tetra- to decasaccharides), and aff

Reliability test-retest of the Nordic Assisted Mobility Evaluation (NAME 1.0).

This paper describes preliminary results from the test-retest of the NAME 1.0. Four scales were tested: Mobility-related participation frequency; Mobility ease/difficulty; Mobility dependence; Extent of assistance in mobility. The test was conducted in the five Nordic countries. In all 147 mobility device users took part in the study, mean age 60 years (range 19 - 93). Each participant was intervi

Knowledge Sharing Across Borders - A Study in the IKEA World

To enter new markets is not easy. The most obvious challenge, at least judging from the majority of literature on internationalization, is to understand the new market thus taking a market(ing) perspective. External aspects of internationalization are often stressed, while internal aspects, focusing on why organizations fail, are less developed or examined. In order to better understand the intern

Ströja kyrka – en aristokratisk medeltidskyrka

Today, Brahe Church mainly exhibits signs of the period of greatness of Visingsö island during the seventeenth century. However, there are also traces from much earlier periods. Ströja Church was built during the twelfth century, when the House of Erik and the House of Sverker contested for the title of king and the island of Visingsö had a prominent position in the new country of Sweden. We do no

On reasoning and planning in real-time: An LDS-based approach

Reasoning with limited computational resources (such as time or memory) is an important problem, in particular in cognitive embedded systems. Classical logic is usually considered inappropriate for this purpose as no guarantees regarding deadlines can be made. One of the more interesting approaches to address this problem is built around the concept of active logics. Although a step in the right d

Impact work-rate and wear of a loosely supported beam subject to harmonic excitation

Impact work-rate of a weakly damped beam with elastic two-sided amplitude constraints subject to harmonic excitation is calculated. Impact work-rate is the rate of energy dissipation to the impacting surfaces. The beam is clamped at one end and constrained by unilateral contact sites near the other end. This system was an object of a vibro-impact experiment which was analyzed in our earlier paper

Physical Aspects of Thermotherapy - A study of heat transport with a view to treatment optimisation

Genom att beräkna temperaturefördelningen m.h.a. datorsimuleringar kan Local treatment with the aim to destruct tissue by heating (thermotherapy) may in some cases be an alternative or complement to surgical methods, and has gained increased interest during the last decade. The major advantage of these, often minimally-invasive methods, is that the disease can be controlled with reduced treatment trauma and complications. The extent of thermal damage is a complex fun

60 GHz Wavelet Generator for Impulse Radio Applications

A wavelet generator producing 100 ps short pulses at 60 GHz is presented. The wavelet generator consists of a gated tunnel diode (GTD) integrated in parallel with an inductor. This forms a negative differential conductance (NDC) oscillator with the ability to switch the NDC property on and off, which makes it possible to generate short pulses. In the experiments described, the wavelet generator dr
