Herodes Atticus Reflected in Occasional Poetry of Antonine Athens

The occasional poetry of the Antonine period relating to the wealthy sophist and important second century AD political personality in Athens, Herodes Atticus, is studied. Some of the functions of poetry are illustrated, as it is used by one of the leading personalities of the Second Sophistic. This study differs from previous research in focusing totally on verse inscriptions connected with Herode

On the cavity problem for the general linear medium in Electromagnetic Theory

In this paper we study the propagation problem of a time harmonic electro- magnetic field inside a cavity filled with a generic bianisotropic medium. We define the concepts of eigenfrequencies and modes of the cavity and we prove their existence and countability. We extend, in this respect, the theory for the isotropic, homogeneous, lossless cavity.

I uppsatsen presenteras

Authorial voice and the addressee in Pausanias' Periegesis

In light of its highly varied subject matter, it is tempting to sort Pausanias together with other authors of miscellanies from the second century AD, like Aelian and Athenaeus. Like the Deipnosophistae and the Varia historia among other works, the Periegesis is a collection of fa

Intake estimation of total and individual flavan-3-ols, proanthocyanidins and theaflavins, their food sources and determinants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study

Epidemiological studies suggest health-protective effects of flavan-3-ols and their derived compounds on chronic diseases. The present study aimed to estimate dietary flavan-3-ol, proanthocyanidin (PA) and theaflavin intakes, their food sources and potential determinants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) calibration cohort. Dietary data were collected using
