Mid-clavicle fractures in adults: end result study after conservative treatment
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to analyze the long-term outcome of mid-clavicle fractures in adults and to evaluate the clinical importance of displacement and fracture comminution. DESIGN: Two hundred twenty-five mid-clavicular fractures that had been nonsurgically treated at Malmo University Hospital were retrospectively evaluated, both clinically and radiographically, an average of

An electrocardiogram-based method for early detection of abrupt changes in blood pressure during hernodialysis
Clinical techniques for early detection of acute hypotension during conventional hemodialysis treatment are lacking, even though intradialytic hypotension is the most common acute complication. In this article, intradialytic hypotension is identified by means of signal analysis of data recorded at two clinics. The database consists of 30 treatments with concurrently acquired signals: the 12-lead e

Direct chromatographic capture of enzyme from crude homogenate using immobilized metal affinity chromatography on a continuous supermacroporous adsorbent
A continuous supermacroporous matrix has been developed allowing direct capture of enzyme from non-clarified crude cell homogenate at high flow-rates. The continuous supermacroporous matrix has been produced by radical co-polymerization of acrylamide, allyl glycidyl ether and N,N′-methylene-bis(acrylamide) which proceeds in aqueous solution of monomers frozen inside a column (cryo-polymerization).
ADHD and language impairment A study of the parent questionnaire FTF (Five to Fifteen).
The parental questionnaire FTF (Five to Fifteen) was given to parents of 76 children (mean age 11 years) diagnosed with ADHD. About half of the children had at least once been referred to a speech- and language pathologist. Most of them had not received any intervention or follow-up. A factor analysis identified six problem areas, which explain close to 75% of the total variation: Cognitive Skills
Socioeconomic and demographic differences in exposure to environmental tobacco smoke at work: the Scania Public Health Survey 2000
Background: A study was undertaken to investigate the sociodemographic distribution of workplace exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) in a Swedish working population sample. Methods: 8,270 individuals were assessed by questionnaire in the Scania Public Health Survey. The influence of sociodemographic factors on ETS exposure at work was investigated by multivariable regression analysis. Re
Responders and non-responders in a study on medical end-of-life decisions in Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland
Objectives: To determine the direction and magnitude of participation bias in end-of-life research. Methods: Within the framework of a European survey on medical end-of-life decisions, a non-response study was conducted among physicians in Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. People were asked about their attitudes and experiences in the area of medial end-of-life decision. The respon
Pooling reputations
It is shown that there are economics of scope in carrying a reputation, providing a rationale for multi-product firms in the absence of technological or organisational economies. It is also shown that a reputation for producing high quality of an old good may be necessary to introduce and maintain the production of a new good. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Physical activity and its effect on bone in the short- and long- term perspective.
Exempel på sådana benbrott är frakturer i kota, höftOsteoporosis is a growing problem worldwide where Sweden has one of the highest fragility fracture incidences in the world. The growing years are thought to be an opportune time to build strong bones and the enhancement of peak bone mass (PBM) has been suggested as a prevention strategy for osteoporosis. Most exercise intervention studies in children, evaluating the accrual of areal bone mineral d

Structure-activity relationships of ring C-secotaxoids. 1. Acylative modifications
The acylative modification of IDN 5390 (3a), a 7,8-secotaxoid under preclinical development, was investigated. A modest decrease of potency was observed upon acylation of the primary and the enolic hydroxyls, suggesting that, just like in paclitaxel, the hydroxyl groups in the upper right-hand sector are not critical for cytotoxicity. The activity of these analogues, and especially of the chemical
Review Article: Osteoporosis - an update
Osteoporosis and subsequent fractures is a rapidly growing major health problem in many parts of the world. Even if prevalence and incidence are high in Europe, rate of increase is even higher in Asia. The majority of fractures occur in women underlining the importance of ovarian deficiency. Genetic factors and lifestyle greatly influence the incidence and prevalence both in men and women and the
Fattigvård, socialbidrag och synen på fattigdom i Sverige 1918-1997
The purpose of the study is to analyse the poverty norm for single adults without children in Sweden between 1918 - 1997. The study analyses the full norm, not support given as an income supplement. The poverty norm is defined as the minimum level of a socially acceptable standard of living. The study investigates two problems: how has the poverty norm changed during the period 1918-1997 and why h
