The landlord lag – productivity on peasant farms and landlord demesnes during the agricultural revolution in Sweden 1700–1860

In a longstanding debate among economic historians about the role of the peasants and the manors in the agrarian transformation, a variety of qualitative and quantitative indicators have been used, but no one has until now been able to compare the actual production outcomes. In this paper, we investigate the land productivity development for manorial demesnes and peasant farmers, respectively, ove

Biomass pyrolysis in a heated-grid reactor: Visualization of carbon monoxide and formaldehyde using Laser-Induced Fluorescence

The development of improved biomass pyrolysis models is vital for more accurate modelling and design of biomass conversion equipment. Such improved models must be based on reliable experimental data: biomass should be pyrolyzed at high heating rates and the reaction products should be measured using an on-line, non-intrusive method. Therefore, a heated grid reactor with heating rate of 300-600 K/s

A1M Ameliorates Preeclampsia-Like Symptoms in Placenta and Kidney Induced by Cell-Free Fetal Hemoglobin in Rabbit.

Preeclampsia is one of the most serious pregnancy-related diseases and clinically manifests as hypertension and proteinuria after 20 gestational weeks. The worldwide prevalence is 3-8% of pregnancies, making it the most common cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Preeclampsia lacks an effective therapy, and the only "cure" is delivery. We have previously shown that increased synthe

Production of charged pions, kaons and protons at large transverse momenta in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV

Transverse momentum spectra of pi(+/-), K-+/- and p((p) over bar) up to p(T) = 20 GeV/c at mid-rapidity in pp, peripheral (60-80%) and central (0-5%) Pb-Pb collisions at v root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV have been measured using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The proton-to-pion and the kaon-to-pionratios both show a distinct peak at p(T) approximate to 3 GeV/c in central Pb-Pb collisions.

Concepts and problems in protein dynamics

The function of proteins depends crucially on conformational motions. The characteristic times of these motions extend from sub-picosecond to seconds. No single experimental tool can cover the entire time range and provide all necessary parameters for a complete understanding. Moreover, without a solid understanding of the data evaluation it is easy to misinterpret the complex phenomena. Because p

Data processing methods and quality control strategies for label-free LC-MS protein quantification.

Protein quantification using different LC-MS techniques is becoming a standard practice. However, with a multitude of experimental setups to choose from, as well as a wide array of software solutions for subsequent data processing, it is non-trivial to select the most appropriate workflow for a given biological question. In this review, we highlight different issues that need to be addressed by so

Comparison between Weibull and Gamma distributions to derive synthetic unit hydrograph using Horton order ratios

The two-parameter Weibull distribution (2PWD), similar to an instantaneous unit hydrograph (IUH), is parameterized in terms of Horton catchment ratios on the basis of a geomorphologic model of catchment response. For this the shape and scale parameters of the Weibull distribution are expressed analytically in terms of Horton's catchment ratios. The two parameters of the IUH derived using Nash's mo

Brains, genes and environment of suicide attempters

Identification of symptoms or biological abnormalities that predispose to suicide or identifies specific vulnerabilities, may one day improve allocation of resources or help tailor treatment to the patient. Paper I: We compared the predictive value of symptom-oriented questions against direct questions about suicidality in assessing risk for suicide attempts. The self-rated Suicide Assessment Sca

A model framework for tree leaf colouring in Europe

Ecosystem productivity is influenced by the start and end of the growing season, and ecosystem models that simulate productivity need reliable representations of the phenology. For the seasonal development, autumn events are less understood than spring events, with comparatively fewer modelling attempts have been made for leaf senescence than for budburst. The few existing models for autumn phenol

Utility of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure as an admission and outcome measure in interdisciplinary community-based geriatric rehabilitation

In a community-based geriatric rehabilitation project, the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) was used to develop a coordinated, interdisciplinary, and client-centred approach focusing on occupational performance. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the utility of the COPM as an admission and outcome measure in an interdisciplinary geriatric rehabilitation context in Denmark. E

Extensible intraprocedural flow analysis at the abstract syntax tree level

We have developed a new approach for implementing precise intraprocedural control-flow and dataflow analyses at the abstract syntax tree level. Our approach is declarative, making use of reference attribute grammars augmented with circular attributes and collection attributes. This results in concise executable specifications of the analyses, allowing extensions both to the language and with furth

Lack of adherence to hypertension treatment guidelines among GPs in southern Sweden-A case report- based survey

Background: General practitioners (GPs) often fail to correctly adhere to guidelines for the treatment of hypertension. The reasons for this are unclear, but could be related to lack of knowledge in assessing individual patients' cardiovascular disease risk. Our aim was to investigate how GPs in southern Sweden adhere to clinical guidelines for the treatment of hypertension when major cardiovascul

Flera inkluderar makroekonomis

Clinical effects of initial 6 months monotherapy with bisoprolol versus enalapril in the treatment of patients with mild to moderate chronic heart failure. Data from the CIBIS III trial

Purpose To assess the clinical effects and safety profile of initial monotherapy with either bisoprolol or enalapril in elderly patients with heart failure (HF). Methods In CIBIS III, 1010 patients with mild to moderate HF and age >= 65 years were randomized to monotherapy with either bisoprolol or enalapril for 6 months. Results Bisoprolol had a similar effect as enalapril on the combined end-poi

Ultrafast Excited State Dynamics of 5,6-Dihydroxyindole, A Key Eumelanin Building Block: Nonradiative Decay Mechanism.

As part of a program designed to elucidate the excited state properties of key eumelanin building blocks, we report herein a study of 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI) in phosphate buffer at pH 3 and pH 7 using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. The transient absorption changes following excitation at 266 nm were used to directly monitor relaxation of the excited states. It was found that the

SMOKING AND SMOKING CESSATION IN A HEALTH EQUITY PERSPECTIVE IN SWEDEN – AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY IN THE ADULT POPULATION

The widening inequalities in smoking are one of the growing public health challenges in western countries, where smoking and smoking cessation patterns are unequally distributed among the populations. Inequalities in smoking and smoking cessation are closely associated with factors such as socioeconomic status, psychosocial and cultural factors. In Sweden, individuals with low socioeconomic status
