Robotic fundoplication in children
Since January 2006, robotic assistance has been used for performing minimal invasive laparoscopic fundoplications in children. These patients were compared with those operated on with either the open surgical technique or the laparoscopic procedure. The first six children operated on with a fundoplication using the operation robot, da Vinci (R) Surgical System from Intuitive Surgical (R), were inc

Absence of mutations of the BRAF gene in malignant melanoma of soft parts (clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses)
Malignant melanoma of soft parts (MMSP), also called clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses, is cytogenetically characterized by the t(12;22)(q13;q12) resulting in the chimeric EWSR1/ATF1 gene. MMSP shares a number of morphologic, histologic, and immunohistochemical features with malignant melanoma of the skin, causing diagnostic difficulties in the distinction between MMSP and metastatic m
Mononuclear cells recovered from inflammatory synovial membrane using fine-needle biopsy
A simple technique for fine-needle aspiration biopsy from the synovial membrane of arthritis knee joints preceded by lavage of the joint cavity is described. The procedure was atraumatic, well accepted, and could be performed on outpatients. Cells originating from the synovial membrane were obtained in 12 of 17 knees using a 1.2-mm cannula. The yield was 6.0 x 10(3) to 135 x 10(3) mononuclear cell

Corticosteroid-binding globulin: A possible early predictor of infection in acute necrotizing pancreatitis
Objective. Infected pancreatic necrosis is the main cause of death in patients with acute pancreatitis, and therefore its early prediction is of utmost importance. Endogenous cortisol metabolism plays a basic role both in the course of acute pancreatitis and in the process of infection. The purpose of this study was to analyze corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG), total cortisol, calculated free
Erospedagogik. Från Platon till Areopagites
"Eros pedagogy. From Plato to Areopagite" is a philosophical-pedagogical essay which emphasizes the educational dimension in the philosophy of eros as presented by Plato, and further, through Neoplatonism, interpreted and introduced by Areopagites into Christian thought. At first the essay describes the theory of Plato on eros as part of his general system of thought and here the pedagogic element
Triiron and triruthenium carbonyl clusters bearing bridging long chain diphosphine and capping chalcogenido ligands
Treatment of Ru-3(CO)(12) with dpphSe(2) (dpph = 1,6-bis(diphenylphosphino)-hexane) in refluxing toluene in the presence of Me3NO afforded two new compounds, Ru-3(CO)(7)(mu-CO)(mu(3)-Se)(mu-dpph) (1) and Ru-3(CO)(7)(mu(3)-Se)(2)(mu-dpph) (2). A similar reaction of Ru-3(CO)(12) with dpppeSe(2)(dpppe=1,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane) gave exclusively Ru-3(CO)(7)(mu(3)-Se)(2)(mu-dpppe) (3). Treatmen
THEPEG: Toolkit for High Energy Physics Event Generation
I present the status of the THEPEG project for creating a common platform for implementing C++ event generators. I also describe briefly the status of the new versions of PYTHIA, HERWIG and ARIADNE which are implemented using this framework.
The role of acceptance and mindfulness in the treatment of insomnia.
The present paper explores possible reasons why acceptance and mindfulness techniques may be beneficial in the treatment of insomnia. First, it is argued that sleep is facilitated by cognitive deactivation, with less controlled information processing as compared with daytime functioning, and correspondingly more acceptance of spontaneously occurring physiological and mental processes. Second, it i

Methods for Evaluation of Postural Control Adaptation
New methods were developed to determine the dynamic changes of postural control during the initial exposure to large perturbances of stance. The adjustments of postural control over time in measured anteroposterior torque, were investigated in ten normal subjects. Perturbations of stance were evoked by two high intensity vibrators applying pseudorandom stimulation either to the calf muscles or the
Melatonin as antioxidant, geroprotector and anticarcinogen
The effect of the pineal indole hormone melatonin on the life span of mice, rats and fruit flies has been studied using various approaches. It has been observed that in female CBA, SHR, SAM and transgenic HER-2/neu mice long-term administration of melatonin was followed by an increase in the mean life span. In rats, melatonin treatment increased survival of male and female rats. In D. melanogaster
De deskriptiva förhandlingsteorierna försöker förklara hur människor fakScholars within the Process school assume that cognitive and motivational aspects within the decision and integration processes may systematically effect the outcome of mergers and acquisitions. More specifically, it has been suggested that decision makers use heuristics for simplifying information processing which may introduce bias. The main aim of the present thesis is to add to the understandi
Videoradiographic analysis of how carbonated thin liquids and thickened liquids affect the physiology of swallowing in subjects with aspiration on thin liquids.
Purpose: To analyze how carbonated thin liquids affected the physiology of swallowing in dysphagic patients. Material and Methods: 40 patients were analyzed; 36 were neurologically impaired. During a therapeutic videoradiographic swallowing examination the patients had to swallow liquids with the following consistencies three times: thin, thickened and carbonated. The liquids were given in doses
Understanding laser stabilization using spectral hole burning
There have recently been several studies of the performance of laser frequency stabilization using spectral holes in solids, instead of an external cavity, as a frequency reference. Here an analytical theory for Pound-Drever-Hall laser frequency stabilization using spectral hole-burning is developed. The interaction between the atomic medium and the phase modulated light is described using a linea
