Initial tests of a new phantom for investigation of spatial resolution, partial volume effect and detectability in nuclear medicine tomography

Abstract in UndeterminedA new phantom has been designed that can provide simultaneously different target to background activity ratios with a linearly changing diameter of lesions. The purpose of the study was to describe and perform initial measurements with the phantom aimed to characterize different nuclear medicine tomographic systems and reconstruction algorithms in their performance and beha

Somatostatin and neuropeptide Y in cerebrospinal fluid: correlations with severity of disease and clinical signs in Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal dementia

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are the most common types of progressive neurodegenerative disorder in our catchment area. The distribution of cortical degeneration in FTD is mainly the reverse of that in AD, while there are both differences and similarities in the clinical characteristics. Somatostatin and neuropeptide Y (NPY) are neuropeptides with a widespread distrib

Statistics of temperature and potential fluctuations induced by coherent single particle sources

The prospect of time controlled information processing with individual electrons in nanoscale systems provides strong motivation for investigations of coupled charge and energy transport properties of single electron sources. Building on our recent work [F. Battista et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 126602 (2013)] we investigate theoretically the statistical properties of temperature and potential flu

A Statistical Theory of Shape

We study the statistical theory of shape for ordered finite point configurations, or otherwise stated, the uncertainty of geometric invariants. A general approach for defining shape and finding its density, expressed in the densities for the individual points, is developed. Some examples that can be computed analytically are given, including both affine and positive similarity shape. Projective sh

Abstract This dissertation examines the educational situation from a social psychological perspective. The study is based on an empirical material from two school classes at a Swedish high school. The data have been collected through video documentation and direct observation. A number of brief episodes have been transcribed in detail, and are interpreted and analyzed in the light of interactioni

Differential migration in raptors

Differences between ages, sexes and populations in the timing of migration at Falsterbo, Sweden and in the choice of wintering site among raptors in Scania were investigated. Competition and dominance is the best primary explanation to the results. In most cases the more competitive adults winter north of juveniles and the larger females north of males. Moult strategy is probably one of the most i

Daylight Harvesting Control Systems: Design recommendations based on a literature review

In indoor spaces, lighting control systems are highly effective to reduce electric lighting use. Daylight harvesting systems (DHS) promise to deliver the greatest energy savings. This article presents a review about DHS based on recent scientific and technical literature. The review shows that the energy saving potential of DHS lies between 20-60% in comparison with non-dimmed installations. Howev

Effective Charges Near 56Ni and Production of Anti-Nuclei Studied with Heavy-Ion Reactions

AvhandlingenThis thesis presents the research performed within two different research groups using heavy-ion induced nuclear reactions. They offer the opportunity to investigate different properties of nuclear matter. The results are based on measurements using a variety of different experimental techniques. The PHENIX experiment measured the production of deuteron and anti-deuterons at mid-rapidity in gold-

Bidding Rings: A Bargaining Approach

We address the issue of bidder ring formation in single and multi-unit Vickrey auctions. We address this issue in a bargaining game set up under the assumption that valuation of bidders is commonly known only amongst themselves. In the single unit case, we show that the equilibrium coalition structure can only be an order preserving r-ring, that includes the winner and the top (r-1) losers. In the

Projectile fragmentation of Sn-112 at Elab = 1 A GeV

We have measured production cross sections of projectilelike fragments in the reaction of neutron-deficient 112Sn with a 9Be target at an energy of Elab=1A GeV. Results have been obtained for neutron-deficient products along the N=Z line down to the subnanobarn range. We find very good agreement with the recently revised empirical parametrization EPAX. In addition, a few one- and two-proton pickup
