Physical limitations on antennas of arbitrary shape

In this paper, physical limitations on bandwidth, realized gain, Q-factor and directivity are derived for antennas of arbitrary shape. The product of bandwidth and realizable gain is shown to be bounded from above by the eigenvalues of the long-wavelength, high-contrast polarizability dyadics. These dyadics are proportional to the antenna volume and are easily determined for an arbitrary geometry.

ETS1 mediates MEK1/2-dependent overexpression of cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A (CIP2A) in human cancer cells.

EGFR-MEK-ERK signaling pathway has an established role in promoting malignant growth and disease progression in human cancers. Therefore identification of transcriptional targets mediating the oncogenic effects of the EGFR-MEK-ERK pathway would be highly relevant. Cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A (CIP2A) is a recently characterized human oncoprotein. CIP2A promotes malignant cell grow

Laminin-α2 Chain-Deficient Congenital Muscular Dystrophy: Pathophysiology and Development of Treatment.

Laminin-211 is a major constituent of the skeletal muscle basement membrane. It stabilizes skeletal muscle and influences signal transduction events from the myomatrix to the muscle cell. Mutations in the gene encoding the α2 chain of laminin-211 lead to congenital muscular dystrophy type 1A (MDC1A), a life-threatening disease characterized by severe hypotonia, progressive muscle weakness, and joi

Development of speech motor control: Lip movement variability.

This study examined variability of lip movements across repetitions of the same utterance as a function of age in Swedish speakers. Subjects were 37 typically developed Swedish children and adults (19 females, 18 males, aged 5-31 yr). Lip movements were recorded during 15-20 repetitions of a short Swedish phrase using articulography, with a sampling rate of 200 Hz. After correction for head moveme

Augmented Heat Transfer Of An Internal Blade Tip Wall With Pin-Fins

The heat transferred to the turbine blade is substantially increased as the turbine inlet temperature is increased. Cooling methods are therefore much needed for the turbine blades to ensure a long durability and safe operation. The blade tip region is exposed to the hot gas flows. A common way to cool the tip is to use serpentine passages with 180-deg turn under the blade tip cap taking advantage

Observer-Based Impedance Control in Robotics

This paper presents theoretical and experimental results on observer-based impedance control. Impedance control is a technique for robot force control, which is often used to deal with geometric uncertainty. The aim of this technique is to obtain a dynamic relation between position and force in interaction similar to Newton's second law. Here the velocity is used to modify the damping of the imped

Peptide-tagged proteins in aqueous two-phase systems

Polymerer är stora molekThis thesis deals with proteins containing peptide tags for improved partitioning in aqueous two-phase systems. Qualitatively the peptide-tagged protein partitioning could be predicted from peptide data, i.e. partitioning trends found for peptides were also found for the peptide-tagged proteins. However, full effect of the tag as expected from peptide partitioning was not found in the tagged prote

De inhemska psykologierna: Ett exempel på forskningens kulturella och sociala beroende

In this article the initiation, development and nature of the indigenous psychologies are characterized. The psychologies in question are those versions of psychology that are, mostly non-western, critical reactions to mainstream psychological research. The heterogeneous and complex nature of the indigeneous psychologies are high-lighted. The enterprise of building a (psychological) science on the

Is There a Benefit of Frequent CT Follow-up After EVAR?

OBJECTIVE: Imaging follow-up (FU) after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is usually performed by periodic contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of CT-FU after EVAR. METHODS: In this study, 279 of 304 consecutive patients (261 male, aged 74 years (interquartile range (IQR): 70-79 years) with a median abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) diamet

Management of premature prelabor rupture of the membranes.

Premature prelabor rupture of the fetal membranes affects about 3% of pregnancies. The cause is usually infection, especially at earlier gestations. The prognosis and the risks of delivery are both much worse at earlier gestations. Before viable pregnancy, termination may be offered. Once the fetus is viable, steroids to mature the fetal lungs and antibiotics to reduce infection are the mainstays

A digitally controlled shunt capacitor CMOS delay line

Delay-controlled CMOS delay lines have been proved useful in a number of applications, notably the digitization of short time intervals. This paper introduces a new kind of CMOS delay line, in which the delay element is an array of capacitors controlled by a digital signal vector. This choice allows for a robust implementation of the circuitry controlling the delay generation, while the maximum sp
