The body as a sign

When does the body become a sign? By studying the importance of social norms in our understandings of gender and bodies, an argument can be made that mental processes (inner signs) are results of perpetual negociations with the world outside (outer signs). In some cases thus, gender is not perceived to coincide with the body and therefore certain bodily parts may be conceived as signs.

CFC-lagstiftning.

Ett sätt att minska skatten är att skattskyldig med hemvist i högskatteland äger bolag med hemvist i skatteparadis eller lågskattelanThis thesis on international tax law deals with the topic Controlled Foreign Corporation (CFC) legislation, in relation to the international right to tax, international tax law, neutral taxation and taxation according to the taxpayer´s ability to pay. The Organisation for European Cooperation and Development (OECD)has recommended to all member-states that they incorporate CFC legislation into thei

Reduction of visuo-spatial neglect with vestibular galvanic stimulation

The purpose of the present investigation was to determine the effect of galvanic vestibular stimulation on visuo-spatial neglect without inducing nystagmus and associated discomfort. Fourteen patients with right-hemisphere stroke with neglect were assessed with two visuo-motor tasks ("Line crossing" and "Star cancellation") on three occasions. Seven of the subjects received galvanic vestibular sti

Diagnosis of early preterm labour.

While preterm contractions occur almost as often extremely preterm as they do closer to term, birth due to spontaneous preterm labour before 27 weeks of gestation is rare, accounting for 0.05–0.7% of all births in different populations. Although the likelihood that uterine contractions before 27 weeks of gestation represent true preterm labour is low, the risk of adverse outcome in such cases is h

Characteristics of electron transport through vertical double-barrier quantum-dot structures: Effects of symmetric and asymmetric variations of the lateral confinement potentials

We report on a theoretical study of the electron transport through laterally-confined, vertical double-barrier resonant-tunneling (DBRT) structures, defined as one-dimensional (1D)-0D-1D systems, with a tunable lateral confinement. The current and the differential conductance of the systems are calculated and the influence caused by varying the lateral confinement on the device characteristics is

Traditional push-and-pull factors have been provided as partial explanations to the size of large urban areas in the third world. In addition to these, the growing literature in the field of economic geography-has identified trade costs as an additional fact-or exacerbating the phenomenon. The present study tests econometrically whether higher trade barriers contribute positive to concentration for

Pulsatile wall motion and blood pressure in aneurysms with open and thrombosed endoleaks--comparison of a wall track system and M-mode ultrasound scanning: an in vitro and animal study

OBJECTIVE: Pulsatile wall motion has been suggested as a means by which to evaluate abdominal aortic aneurysms after exclusion from the circulation to determine whether the treatment has been effective. The objective of this study was to investigate the relations between pulsatile wall motion and both the mean and pulse pressures within the aneurysmal sac for both patent and thrombosed endoleaks.

Evaluation of glucose biosensors based on Prussian Blue and lyophilised, crystalline and cross-linked glucose oxidases (CLEC(R)).

Glucose biosensors based on lyophilised, crystalline and cross-linked glucose oxidase (GOx, CLEC(R)) and commercially available lyophilised GOx immobilised on top of glassy carbon electrodes modified with electrodeposited Prussian Blue are critically compared. Two procedures were carried out for preparing the biosensors: (1) deposition of one layer of adsorbed GOx dissolved in an aqueous solution

Scattering matrix method for multimode electron transport through quantum wires under a local magnetic field modulation and spin-orbit interaction

A generalized scattering matrix method is presented for spin-dependent electron transport in a quantum waveguide under the modulations of local magnetic field and/or spin-orbit interaction (SOI). All the required Hamiltonian matrices are expressed in terms of a common basis spanned by the products of the transverse spatial eigenstates and the spin eigenstates of the leads. In the formulation we ha
