Evaluation and testing in creativity

In situations that require creative thinking, there is no well-known procedure for how to reach the goal, or the solution. Among other things, it is not clear how choices between outcomes are made, or when the search for a solution should terminate. The article focusses on the evaluation of solutions that are generated during the search. The general question concerns the standards according to whi

Bacterial identification by the 16S rRNA gene

The identification and classification of bacteria was initially performed with morphological methods applied on cultivated bacteria. It was not until the mid 1970s, when sequences of ribosomal RNA were discovered to be useful for bacterial evolution, that a new era started. This method showed to be far more accurate for bacterial identification. Today, identification of bacteria is totally dominat

Voice use in teaching environments: Speakers' comfort

Popular Abstract in Swedish Undervisning ställer stora krav på lärares röster. Flera studier om förekomsten av röstproblem hos lärare har genomförts i oTeachers have high occupational voice demands and is a group frequently presented at voice clinics. Little is known about the teachers’ own view of the contribution from the environment and about the teachers’ voice use at their work-place. The purpose of the present thesis was ; to develop and assess a self-rating instrument for the rating of throat-related problems in relation to voice, to inve

Pilot Assisted Channel Estimation for OFDM in Mobile Cellular Systems

The use of pilot symbols for channel estimation introduces overhead and it is thus desirable to keep the number of pilot symbols to a minimum. The number of needed pilot symbols for a desired bit error rate and Doppler frequency is highly dependent on the pilot pattern used in orthogonal frequency division multiplexed, OFDM, systems. Five different pilot patterns are analysed by means of resulting

Using TPM Secure Storage in Trusted High Availability Systems

We consider the problem of providing trusted computing functionality in high availability systems. We consider the case where data is required to be encrypted with a TPM protected key. For redundancy, and to facilitate high availability, the same TPM key is stored in multiple computational units, each one ready to take over if the main unit breaks down. This requires the TPM key to be migratable.

Yrkesutbildningens formering i Sverige 1940-1975

CFD Approach to Analyze Transport Phenomena Coupled Chemical Reactions Relevant for Methane Reformers

Various transport phenomena in conjunction with chemical reactions are strongly affected by reformer configurations and properties of involved porous catalyst layers. The considered composite duct is relevant for a methane steam reformer and consists of a porous layer for the catalytic chemical reactions, the fuel gas flow duct and solid plate. In this paper, a fully three-dimensional calculation

Control and Embedded Computing: Survey of Research Directions

This paper provides a survey of the role of feedback control in embedded realtimesystems, presented in the context of a new EU/IST Network of Excellence, ARTIST2.The survey highlights recent research efforts and future research directions in the areasof codesign of computer-based control systems, implementation-aware embedded controlsystems, and control of real-time computing systems.

Notes on the systematics, chemistry and distribution of European Parmelia and Punctelia species (lichenized ascomycetes).

Some European species of the genera Parmelia and Punctelia are analysed using molecular, morphological and chemical characters and notes on their distribution are presented. ITS sequences were compared from a total of 31 representative specimens. Parmelia ernstiae and P. serrana form a sister group to P. pinnatifida and P. saxatilis, whereas P. discordans and P. omphalodes are closely related and
