Asymmetry Effects in Chinese Stock Markets Volatility: A Generalized Additive Nonparametric Approach

The unique characteristics of the Chinese stock markets make it difficult to assume a particular distribution for innovations in returns and the specification form of the volatility process when modeling return volatility with the parametric GARCH family models. This paper therefore applies a generalized additive nonparametric smoothing technique to examine the volatility of the Chinese stock mark

Three-particle Bose-Einstein correlations - a sensitive probe for Lund string fragmentation

I discuss how a difference in the correlation length longitudinally and transversely with respect to the jet axis in e+e- annihilation, arises naturally in a model for Bose-Einstein correlations based on the Lund string picture. This difference is, due to the longitudinal stretching of the field, more apparent in genuine three-particle correlations. They can therefore be used as a sensitive probe

Low Power Techniques for Fast CMOS Buffer Memories

The thesis deals with circuit-level aspects of CMOS buffer SRAMs where the data throughput rate is a more important metric than access time or storage capacity. One aspect is the increased write cycle related power consumption that is the consequence of a high write ratio combined with a long word-length. That is addressed through the invention of a new bit-line operation mode which allows lower

Public administration developments in post-Soviet Central Asia

In the West, everybody is now talking about the economic and financial crisis. The term ‘’crisis” has become a buzzword within both academic and policy communities. There is an enormous upsurge of scholarly interest in the effects of this crisis on public administration systems, and the role that public administration plays in these processes. The underlying belief is that the public administratio

Forward scattering properties of periodic metamaterials

Forward scattering measurements of periodic metamaterials are investigated. A sum rule for forward scattering is derived using the optical theorem and analytic properties of Herglotz functions. It shows that the absorbed and scattered power over all wavelengths from a periodic metamaterial is related to the static polarizability per unit cell. The theoretical results are verified by a parallel pla
