AMFS: Adaptive Multi-Frequency Shading for Future Graphics Processors

We propose a powerful hardware architecture for pixel shading, which enables flexible control of shading rates and automatic shading reuse between triangles in tessellated primitives. The main goal is efficient pixel shading for moderately to finely tessellated geometry, which is not handled well by current GPUs. Our method effectively decouples the cost of pixel shading from the geometric complex

Diffusion in evaporating solutions

We present an analysis of the colloidal dynamics of particles in a mixture of two solvents subjected to evaporation. For simplicity, only one out of the two solvents is considered to be volatile. The evaporation generates a distribution of the solvent concentration in the system. As the particles selectively interact with the solvents, their migration becomes affected by a "chemotaxis" force, caus

In hot pursuit: fluctuating mating system and sexual selection in sand lizards

A changing climate is expected to have profound effects on many aspects of ectotherm biology. We report on a decade-long study of free-ranging sand lizards (Lacerta agilis), exposed to an increasing mean mating season temperature and with known operational sex ratios. We assessed year-to-year variation in sexual selection on body size and postcopulatory sperm competition and cryptic female choice.

Multi-component self-assembly of molecule based materials by coordination networks and weak intermolecular synthons

The coordination polymer [Fe(SCN)(2)(1,2-bis(4-pyridylmethylene)hydrazine)(2)](n) [Fe(phenanthroline)(3)](2n)(ClO4)(2n)center dot n1,2-bis(4-pyridylmethylene)hydrazine center dot 4nH(2)O 1 was crystallised from a MeOH/MeCN solution and the structure consists of layered (4,4) 2D-nets with supramolecular ([Fe(phen)(3)](2)bphz)(4+) units in the pores and disordered water and perchlorate anions. The s

Dimensions of some fractals defined via the semigroup generated by 2 and 3

We compute the Hausdorff and Minkowski dimension of subsets of the symbolic space Sigma(m) ={0, ... , m-1}(N) that are invariant under multiplication by integers. The results apply to the sets {x is an element of Sigma(m): for all k, x(k)x(2k) ... x(nk) = 0}, where n >= 3. We prove that for such sets, the Hausdorff and Minkowski dimensions typically differ.

Contributions in Sociology of Law. Remarks from a Swedish Horizon.

Lund University, Sweden, is the only seat of learning having Sociology of Law (hereafter SoL) at all levels in Europe. SoL was initiated in 1972 as a department at the Social Science Faculty, with professor Per Stjernquist as chair. Later on, for some 10 years, SoL was a division within the department of Sociology but from January 2006, SoL is an autonomous department at the Social Science Faculty

Time use among individuals with persistent mental illness: Identifying risk factors for imbalance in daily activities

The aim of this study was to investigate associations between time use in daily activities and sociodemographic and clinical factors in order to identify individuals with persistent mental illness at risk of having an imbalance in daily activities, as reflected in their time use and daily rhythm. Participants (n=103) were selected from a psychiatric outpatient unit using a randomized stratified se

First evidence of Devonian strata in Sweden - A palynological investigation of Ovedskloster drillcores 1 and 2, Skane, Sweden

Palynological analyses were carried out on 50 samples from the Ovedskloster 1 (O1) and 2 drillcores (O2), southern Sweden. The study revealed well-preserved palynological assemblages including 77 spore species in 28 genera, and some additional forms retained under open nomenclature. The spore assemblages are collectively dominated by trilete spores in terms of abundance and diversity and have been

Prevalence of spondyloarthritis and its subtypes in southern Sweden

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of spondyloarthritis and its subtypes. METHODS: The Swedish healthcare organisation comprises a system where all inpatient and outpatient care is registered by a personal identifier. For the calendar years 2003-7, all residents aged ≥15 years in the southernmost county of Sweden (1.2 million inhabitants) diagnosed by a physician with spondyloarthritis (ankylo

The relation between treatment outcome and efavirenz, atazanavir or lopinavir exposure in the NORTHIV trial of treatment-na

The relation between treatment outcome and trough plasma concentrations of efavirenz (EFV), atazanavir (ATV) and lopinavir (LPV) was studied in a pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic substudy of the NORTHIV trial-a randomised phase IV efficacy trial comparing antiretroviral-na < ve human immunodeficiency virus-1-infected patients treated with (1) EFV + 2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (2NR

Holotranscobalamin is not influenced by decreased renal function in elderly men: the MrOS Sweden study

Background Subclinical cobalamin deficiency is common in the elderly, but the sensitivity and specificity of serum total cobalamin for this diagnosis is poor. Serum holotranscobalamin (holoTC), a measure of biologically available cobalamin, is considered a better marker for early cobalamin depletion than total cobalamin. However, in elderly populations, health-related reference intervals for holoT

The Value of Intimacy - Negotiating Commercial Friendship in Lifestyle Entrepreneurship

With the aim to reconsider lifestyle values in relation to economic rationality in small tourism and hospitality businesses, we focus on the “commercial home” as a site where boundaries between personal and commercial values are constantly performed in practice. Through an interactionist analysis of the narrative of a B&B and gallery owner, we illustrate the emergence of intimacy as a commerci

Ultrafast Dynamics of Long Homologues of Carotenoid Zeaxanthin

Three zeaxanthin homologues with conjugation lengths N of 15, 19, and 23 denoted as Z15, Z19, and Z23 were studied by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, and the results were compared to those obtained for zeaxanthin (Z11). The energies of S2 decrease from 20 450 cm(-1) (Z11) to 18 280 cm(-1) (Z15), 17?095 cm(-1) (Z19), and 16?560 cm(-1) (Z23). Fitting the N dependence of the S-2 energi

Identification of three novel FGF16 mutations in X-linked recessive fusion of the fourth and fifth metacarpals and possible correlation with heart disease.

Nonsense mutations in FGF16 have recently been linked to X-linked recessive hand malformations with fusion between the fourth and the fifth metacarpals and hypoplasia of the fifth digit (MF4; MIM#309630). The purpose of this study was to perform careful clinical phenotyping and to define molecular mechanisms behind X-linked recessive MF4 in three unrelated families. We performed whole-exome sequen
