Observation of an Excited B_{c}^{±} Meson State with the ATLAS Detector.

A search for excited states of the B_{c}^{±} meson is performed using 4.9 fb^{-1} of 7 TeV and 19.2 fb^{-1} of 8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. A new state is observed through its hadronic transition to the ground state, with the latter detected in the decay B_{c}^{±}→J/ψπ^{±}. The state appears in the m(B_{c}^{±}π^{+}π^{-})-m(B_{c}^{±})-2m(π^{±}) mass differen

Neonatal scalp haematoma and necrosis.

Abstract Birth trauma after prolonged deliveries and instrument-assisted extractions can result in skin lesions and reduced viability of the scalp. In these instances, scalp swellings and haematomas are often also seen. The classification and inter-relationship between these conditions might not, however, always be clear. This report describes three cases of neonates with scalp swellings and necro

The Moral Foundations taxonomy: Structural validity and relation to political ideology in Sweden

Although Moral Foundations Theory claims that the foundations of morality are universal, there are still few studies addressing it through non-English measures. In the current research, 540 persons filled out a Swedish translation of the Moral Foundations Questionnaire, and 332 of them filled out political attitude measures. Confirmatory factor analyses suggested that the fit of the five-factor mo

Prevalence of diabetes mellitus in 6050 hypopituitary patients with adult-onset GH deficiency before GH replacement: a KIMS analysis

Objective: GH deficiency (GHD) in adults is characterized by a tendency toward obesity and an adverse body composition with visceral fat deposit and may thus predispose to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was to assess the observed prevalence proportion (PP) and observed PP over expected PP ratio (standardized prevalence proportion ratio, SPR) of diabetes accordin

High Interobserver Variability in the Assessment of Epsilon Waves: Implications for Diagnosis of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy/Dysplasia.

Revision of the Task Force diagnostic criteria (TFC) for arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D) has increased their sensitivity for diagnosis of early and familial forms of the disease. Epsilon wave (EW) is a major diagnostic criterion in the context of ARVC/D, which, however, remains not quantifiable and therefore may leave room for substantial subjective interpretatio

Large-Scale Gene-Centric Meta-Analysis across 39 Studies Identifies Type 2 Diabetes Loci

To identify genetic factors contributing to type 2 diabetes (T2D), we performed large-scale meta-analyses by using a custom similar to 50,000 SNP genotyping array (the ITMAT-Broad-CARe array) with similar to 2000 candidate genes in 39 multiethnic population-based studies, case-control studies, and clinical trials totaling 17,418 cases and 70,298 controls. First, meta-analysis of 25 studies compris

Giant aneurysm in the sinus of Valsalva presenting as an acute coronary symptom.

We describe an 85-year old male who was admitted to the hospital with acute coronary symptoms. Bedside echocardiography revealed a structure in the aortic root, and a computed tomography scan verified the diagnosis of an aneurysm in the sinus of Valsalva below the left coronary ostium. A coronary angiography also depicted the aneurysm clearly and clearly showed how the aneurysm compressed and disl

Season of diagnosis is associated with overall survival in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma but not with Hodgkin's lymphoma - A population-based Swedish Lymphoma Register study.

OBJECTIVE AND METHODS: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of season of diagnosis on the outcome of patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). In this study, we included curatively treated DLBCL (n=5875) and HL (n=1693) patients, diagnosed between 2000 and 2011, based on data from the Swedish Lymphoma Register. RESULTS: Overall survival was sig

Collective Fluorescence Blinking in Linear J-Aggregates Assisted by Long-Distance Exciton Migration.

Fluorescence blinking corresponding to collective quenching of up to 100 dye monomers is reported for individual J-aggregates of a perylene bisimide (PBI) dye. This implies an exciton diffusion length up to 70 nm in these one-dimensional assemblies. The number of quenched monomers was directly measured by comparing the fluorescence brightness of the J-aggregates with that of noncoupled PBI molecul

Challenging the planetary boundaries II: Assessing the sustainable global population and phosphate supply, using a systems dynamics assessment model

A systems dynamics model was developed to assess the planetary boundary for P supply in relation to use by human society. It is concluded that present day use rates and poor recycling rates of P are unsustainable at timescales beyond 100+ a. The predictions made suggest that P will become a scarce and expensive material in the future. The study shows clearly that market mechanisms alone will not b

An Argument for the Existence of Tropes

That there could be ontologically complex concrete particulars is self-evidently true. A reductio may however be formulated which contradicts this truth. In this paper I argue that all of the reasonable ways in which we might refute this reductio will require the existence of at least some tropes.

Surface Composition and Morphology of Particles Dried Individually and by Spray Drying

This study investigates how the morphology of spray-dried particles is related to the formulation and properties of the components in the formulation. Further, the scale effects in comparisons of levitation-dried single particles and spray-dried particles in a lab-scale spray dryer have been addressed. The Drying Kinetics Analyzer (TM) generates single particles from a levitated drop under simulat

Application of Ozone in Full-Scale to Reduce Filamentous Bulking Sludge at Oresundsverket WWTP

The return sludge of one of the four treatment lines at oresundsverket WWTP in Sweden was subjected to ozonation in full-scale to reduce filamentous bulking sludge. The biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal capacity along with effluent parameters were studied throughout the trial. Samples were also taken to track possible changes in microbial population due to ozone. 2.8-5.0 g O-3 kg(-1) trea

Survival in familial and non-familial breast cancer by age and stage at diagnosis.

We aimed to compare the survival in familial and sporadic breast cancer (BC) patients who were diagnosed at an identical age and TNM stage. The Nationwide Swedish Family-Cancer Database including all Swedes born after 1931 and their biological parents, totalling >14.7 million individuals, was used. Hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated for women with BC in a first-degree relative (FDR) versus BC pat

Immunochip analysis identifies multiple susceptibility Loci for systemic sclerosis.

In this study, 1,833 systemic sclerosis (SSc) cases and 3,466 controls were genotyped with the Immunochip array. Classical alleles, amino acid residues, and SNPs across the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) region were imputed and tested. These analyses resulted in a model composed of six polymorphic amino acid positions and seven SNPs that explained the observed significant associations in the region

Light and Neutron Scattering Study of PEG-oleate and Its Use in Emulsion Polymerization

Steric stabilization of colloids forms a robust mechanism to obtain colloids that are stable in a variety of environments, and that can be used to study the phase behavior of hard or soft spheres. We report the synthesis of sterically stabilized colloids in an aqueous environment using readily dissolvable surfactants, with an unsaturated hydrophobic tail. We synthesized a new surfactant by esterif
