Modification of a PD+ controller for the orbital stabilization of the motions of an all-wheel drive mechanical system

The problem of the orbital stabilization of the forced periodic motions of a non-linear all-wheel drive mechanical system is considered within the framework of a model that is widely used in problems of the planning of the motions and feedback design for industrial robotic manipulators. The basic result is the explicit indication of one of the possible redundant sets of coordinates tranverse to th

Formation of Superlattices of Gold Nanoparticles Using Ostwald Ripening in Emulsions : Transition from fcc to bcc Structure

An efficient method to form 3D superlattices of gold nanoparticles inside oil emulsion droplets is presented. We demonstrate that this method relies on Ostwald ripening, a well-known phenomenon occurring during the aging of emulsions. The key point is that the nanoparticle concentration inside the smaller droplets is increasing very slowly with time, thus inducing the crystallization of the nanopa

Kissing knees - factors behind the attraction. Knee abduction in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and patellofemoral pain (PFP) are common sports-related knee injuries. Their consequences include compromised health of the effected individual and substantial financial costs for society. Increased knee abduction or a knee medial to foot position (KMFP), so called “kissing knees”, during weight-bearing activities is reported to be more common in patients wi

Structural analysis of a complex between small ubiquitin-like modifier 1 (SUMO1) and the ZZ domain of CREB-binding protein (CBP/p300) reveals a new interaction surface on SUMO

We have recently discovered that the ZZ zinc finger domain represents a novel small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) binding motif. In this study we identify the binding epitopes in the ZZ domain of CBP (CREB-binding protein) and SUMO1 using NMR spectroscopy. The binding site on SUMO1 represents a unique epitope for SUMO interaction spatially opposite to that observed for canonical SUMO interaction

Psychologic Tests in the Evaluation of Psychic Changes after Myelography with Metrizamide

The possibility of using psychologic tests to demonstrate psychic changes following myelography with metrizamide was investigated in 15 patients. The tests were made before and after the examination. The results revealed psychic changes of cognitive nature to occur both at 6 and at 24 hours after myelography. Of the tests used determination of the reaction time gave most significant results. Subje

Galactomannan catabolism conferred by a polysaccharide utilisation locus of Bacteroides ovatus : enzyme synergy and crystal structure of a β-mannanase

A recently identified polysaccharide utilisation locus (PUL) from Bacteroides ovatus ATCC8483 is transcriptionally upregulated during growth on galacto- and glucomannans. It encodes two putative glycoside hydrolase family 26 (GH26) β-mannanases, BoMan26A and BoMan26B, and a GH36 α-galactosidase, BoGal36A. The PUL also includes two glycan binding proteins, confirmed by β-mannan affinity electrophorA recently identified polysaccharide utilization locus (PUL) from Bacteroides ovatus ATCC 8483 is transcriptionally up-regulated during growth on galacto- and glucomannans. Study of phased array in UE for 5G mm wave communication system with consideration of user body effect

The latest study of the millimeter wave (mmWave) phased array in user device (UE) for 5G communication is presented in this paper. Particularly, the body effect on the phased array in a UE/mobile terminal at 15 GHz is investigated with the 3D measured data. Its impact on the recently introduced parameter for phased array in mobile terminal, the total scanning pattern, body loss and the coverage ef

Microstrip antenna array integrated with 60 GHz band CMOS injection locked power amplifier

A microstrip antenna integration with a power amplifier is presented for the 60 GHz band. The antenna is a single layer 4×4 square patches array. The power amplifier is injection locked, designed in a 65 nm CMOS technology, with single-ended input and output signals. The integration is realized by means of bond wire connections. The antenna and the power amplifier are fabricated, characterized and

A bimetallic nanocoral Au decorated with Pt nanoflowers (bio)sensor for H2O2 detection at low potential

In this work, we have developed for the first time a method to make novel gold and platinum hybrid bimetallic nanostructures differing in shape and size. Au-Pt nanostructures were prepared by electrodeposition in two simple steps. The first step consists of the electrodeposition of nanocoral Au onto a gold substrate using hydrogen as a dynamic template in an ammonium chloride solution. After that,

The CJEU washes its hands of Member States’ fingerprint retention : Joined Cases C-446/12 – 449/12 Willems

When is the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU applicable to a Member State measure? In C-446/12 – 449/12 Willems the CJEU held that a Member State which stores and uses fingerprint data, originally collected in compliance with Regulation No 2252/2004, but which the Member State then uses for purposes other than those stipulated in the Regulation, is not acting within the scope of EU law, and

Transcribing β-cell mitochondria in health and disease

Background: The recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) have identified the pancreatic β-cell as the culprit in the pathogenesis of the disease. Mitochondrial metabolism plays a crucial role in the processes controlling release of insulin and β-cell mass. This notion implies that mechanisms controlling mitochondrial function have the potential to play a decisive path

Numerical and Experimental Study on Laminar Methane/Air Premixed Flames at Varying Pressure

Laminar methane/air premixed Bunsen flames were studied using detailed numerical simulations and laser diagnostics. In the numerical simulations one-dimensional and two-dimensional configurations were considered with detailed transport properties and chemical kinetic mechanism. In the measurements OH PLIF was employed. The flame structures vary with varying equivalence ratio and pressure. For stoi
