Conceptualizing entrepreneurial capital in the context of institutional change

This paper explores the building of entrepreneurial capital from an entrepreneurship and contextual/institutional position. In taking this position, it is possible to understand "entrepreneurial capital" as the content of the process that unfolds when individuals are exposed to certain characteristics of the environment. Drawing on findings from an ethnographically inspired longitudinal case study

Streptomyces morphogenetics: dissecting differentiation in a filamentous bacterium.

During the life cycle of the filamentous bacteria Streptomyces, morphological differentiation is closely integrated with fundamental growth and cell-cycle processes, as well as with truly complex multicellular behaviour that involves hormone-like extracellular signalling and coordination with an extraordinarily diverse secondary metabolism. Not only are the bacterial cytoskeleton and the machineri

Denoising of arterial spin labeling data: wavelet-domain filtering compared with Gaussian smoothing.

PURPOSE: To investigate a wavelet-based filtering scheme for denoising of arterial spin labeling (ASL) data, potentially enabling reduction of the required number of averages and the acquisition time. METHODS: ASL magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides quantitative perfusion maps by using arterial water as an endogenous tracer. The signal difference between a labeled image, where inflowing arte

Beta Cell Function: from Human Genetics to Animal Models

Beta cell function is an important factor in the development of both Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 (T2D) diabetes mellitus. T1D is characterized by a primary defect in insulin secretion due to the immune-mediated beta cell destruction, however, the more common T2D beside insulin resistance also include impaired beta cell function as a consequence to abnormal glucose homeostasis. Genetic susceptibility i

Accurate free atom-solid binding energy shifts for Au and Ag

Binding energy shifts between atomic and solid states have been observed with improved accuracy for All 4f and Ag 3d core levels applying a simultaneous measurement method. Also the 3d photoelectron spectrum and binding energies of free Ag atoms have been observed for the first time. New values determined as free atom to bulk solid shifts deviate considerably from previous estimate for Au but agre

Coherence Spectrum Estimation From Nonuniformly Sampled Sequences

Magnitude squared coherence (MSC) is a useful bivariate spectral measure that finds application in a wide variety of fields. In this paper, we develop a nonparametric Capon-based MSC estimator that utilizes a segmented reformulation of the recently introduced iterative adaptive approach (IAA) to provide high resolution MSC spectrum estimates. The proposed estimator, termed segmented-IAA-MSC (or SI

Open access i praktiken. Fokus på humaniora och rättsvetenskap

This article deals with the possibilities for Open Access (OA) publishing for Nordic researchers in law and in the humanities. Fifty-two journal editors answered a survey with questions on publishing in OA journals and on parallel publishing. The results show that the number of journals with a clear OA policy is low though a number of journals make articles freely available on the Internet without

Integrated Approach to Robotic Machining with Macro/Micro-Actuation

A novel integrated approach to high-accuracy machining with industrial robots is presented in this paper. By combining a conventional industrial robot with an external compensation mechanism, a significantly higher bandwidth of the control of the relative position between the tool and the workpiece can be achieved. A model-based feedback controller for the compensation mechanism, as well as a mid-

Prevalence and Etiology of Intracranial Hemorrhage in Term Children Under the Age of Two Years: A Retrospective Study of Computerized Tomographic Imaging and Clinical Outcome in 798 Children

Rationale and Objectives. The purposes of this study were to retrospectively identify various etiologies underlying intracranial hemorrhages (ICHs) in term infants aged 4 weeks presenting with ICHs, special attention should be given to the possibility of nonaccidental trauma etiology, because this is common and has worse long-term outcomes.

Inner power, physical strength and existential well-being in daily life: relatives' experiences of receiving soft tissue massage in palliative home care

Aim and objectives. This article explores relatives' experiences of receiving soft tissue massage as a support supplement while caring for a dying family member at home. Background. In palliative home care, relatives play an important role as carers to seriously ill and dying family members. To improve their quality of life, different support strategies are of importance. Complementary methods, su

Wind turbines voltage support in weak grids

This paper investigates how Full-Scale Converter (FSC) wind turbines can contribute to voltage support in weak grids. A novel voltage support strategy is proposed, which optimizes the voltage support during the fault. This strategy is compared to the voltage support required by two grid codes, the Danish and the German E.ON ones. The influence of a number of parameters, as the network X/R ratio, t

Heraclius Learns Humility: Two Early Latin Accounts Composed for the Celebration of Exaltatio Crucis

The medieval western image of the Byzantine emperor Heraclius (c. 575-641) was largely formed by a Latin legend (BHL 4178) composed for the celebration of Exaltatio Crucis (14 Sept.). The main purpose of the article is to present a critical edition of this legend, together with an editio princeps of a Latin sermon (BHL 4181a) that tells the same story, as well as annotated English translations of

Efficacy of HPV DNA testing with cytology triage and/or repeat HPV DNA testing in primary cervical cancer screening.

BACKGROUND: Primary cervical screening with both human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing and cytological examination of cervical cells with a Pap test (cytology) has been evaluated in randomized clinical trials. Because the vast majority of women with positive cytology are also HPV DNA positive, screening strategies that use HPV DNA testing as the primary screening test may be more effective. METHO

Making law work : chinese laws in context

By studying law implementation in different areas and at different levels, contributors from various disciplines give a nuanced picture of law implementation in China, showing that it is rare to find examples of complete success or failure. Instead, making law work in actual practice, and in any society, is a matter of degree. The study is multidisciplinary in character and builds on insights from

Numerical study of how creep and progressive stiffening affect the growth stress formation in trees

It is not fully understood how much growth stresses affect the final quality of solid timber products in terms of, e.g. shape stability. It is, for example, difficult to predict the internal growth stress field within the tree stem. Growth stresses are progressively generated during the tree growth and they are highly influenced by climate, biologic and material-related factors. To increase the kn

Investigating spatial differentiation of model parameters in a carbon cycle data assimilation system

Better estimates of the net exchange of CO(2) between the atmosphere and the terrestrial biosphere are urgently needed to improve predictions of future CO(2) levels in the atmosphere. The carbon cycle data assimilation system (CCDAS) offers the capability of inversion, while it is at the same time based on a process model that can be used independent of observational data. CCDAS allows the assimil

Björn Lindman: Fifty years in science and technology.

Björn Lindman has for fifty years had an active role in science and technology. His main contributions are briefly described. In the science part particular emphasis is put on his studies of ion binding, of amphiliphilc self-association, of molecular diffusion in solution and of polymer-surfactant systems. Furthermore we describe his role in introducing scientific areas, his role in scientific col

Mn-induced modifications of Ga 3d photoemission from (Ga, Mn)As: evidence for long range effects

Using synchrotron based photoemission, we have investigated the Mn-induced changes in Ga 3d core level spectra from as-grown Ga(1-x)Mn(x)As. Although Mn is located in Ga substitutional sites, and therefore does not have any Ga nearest neighbors, the impact of Mn on the Ga core level spectra is pronounced even at Mn concentrations in the region of 0.5%. The analysis shows that each Mn atom affects
