The effect of swirl on spark assisted compression ignition (SACI)

Autoignition with SI compression ratio can be achieved by retaining hot residuals, replacing some of the fresh charge. In this experimental work it is achieved by running with a negative valve overlap (NVO) trapping hot residuals. The experimental engine is equipped with a pneumatic valve train making it possible to change valve lift, phasing and duration, as well as running with valve deactivatio

The indexical 'I': The first person in thought and language

The subjct of this book is the first person in thought and language. The main question is what we mean when we say 'I'. Related to it are questions about what kinds of self-consciousness and self-knowledge are needed in order for us to have the capacity to talk about ourselves. The emphasis is on theories of meaning and reference for 'I', but a fair amount of space is devoted to 'I'-thoughts and t

Band electronic structure of one- and two-dimensional pentacene molecular crystals

We report EHT calculations of the band electronic structure of substituted pentacene derivatives and the polymorphs of the parent compound. The results show that there are wide disparities among the bandwidths and electronic dimensionalities of these compounds. The parent pentacene polymorphs are 2-dimensional in their band electronic structure with moderate dispersions; the bandwidths in the 14.1

Quantum Chemical Study of Photoinjection Processes in Sensitized TiO2 Nanoparticles

Results from quantum chemical INDO/S-CI calculations of the absorption properties of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles sensitized by catechol and benzoic acid are reported. Experimental observations that catechol causes a strong shift in the TiO2 absorption threshold, while benzoic acid does not, are explained from the calculations which indicate that only catechol introduces electronic levels in the TiO

Characterization of CMOS Impedance Tuning Unit

The use of reconfigurable matching has become more and more desirable as mismatches between such interfaces as antenna and receiver increase. The present paper investigates reconfigurable matching by measurements of a CMOS Impedance Tuning Unit (ITU) designed for Digital Video Broadcasting for Handheld devices (DVB-H). The ITU consists of switched capacitors arranged in three capacitor banks, with

Benchmark dose for cadmium-induced renal effects in humans

OBJECTIVES: Our goal in this study was to explore the use of a hybrid approach to calculate benchmark doses (BMDs) and their 95% lower confidence bounds (BMDLs) for renal effects of cadmium in a population with low environmental exposure. METHODS: Morning urine and blood samples were collected from 820 Swedish women 53-64 years of age. We measured urinary cadmium (U-Cd) and tubular effect markers

The charge state distribution of Be, C, Cl and Al ions at the Lund Pelletron accelerator with the recently modified terminal pumping in use

Some years ago terminal pumping for the gas stripper system at the 3 MV Lund Tandem Pelletron accelerator was installed and charge state distribution measurements using the new installation were reported. Since then, new modifications of the mechanical design of the stripper system have been made. The results of pressure profile measurements as well as the results of charge state distribution meas

Ultrathin Co films on flat and vicinal Cu(111) surfaces: per atom determination of orbital and spin moments

We have performed x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, x-ray resonant magnetic scattering and scanning tunnelling microscopy measurements on ultrathin Co films deposited on flat and vicinal Cu(111). The range of film thickness varies between one and 25 monolayers. For the vicinal Cu(111), Co deposition below one monolayer leads to the formation of elongated islands preferentially oriented along the
