Simulations of flow around a confined oscillating circular cylinder using a virtual boundary method

In this paper streamwise and transverse oscillations of a rigid circular cylinder in a rectangular channel are investigated using the Virtual Boundary method. Numerical study of the three-dimensional flow around the cylinder is done for the uniform Cartesian grid. All computations are performed at Reynolds numbers of Re=500 and 1000 based on the mean flow velocity. The Keulegan-Carpenter number (K

A study of the inner-valence ionization region in HCl and DCl

An in-depth photoionization study of the inner-valence electrons in HCl and DCl has been performed using synchrotron radiation. A series of photoelectron spectra of HCl were obtained at a resolution of 23 meV over the binding energy range 25-30.5 eV at various excitation energies and at two different electron collection angles relative to the plane of polarization of the undulator radiation. In ad

Garner and Congruence Effects in the Speeded Classification of Bimodal Signals

The role of attention in speeded Garner classification of concurrently presented auditory and visual signals was examined in 4 experiments. Within-trial interference (i.e., congruence effects) occurred regardless of the attentional demands of the task. Between-trials interference (i.e., Garner interference) occurred only under conditions of divided attention when making judgments about auditory si

Expression of MUC5AC and MUC5B mucins in normal and cystic fibrosis lung

Hypersecretion of airway mucus is a characteristic feature of chronic airway diseases like cystic fibrosis (CF) and leads via impairment of the muco-ciliary clearance and bacterial superinfection to respiratory failure. The major components of the mucus matrix forming family of mucins in the airways are MUC5AC and MUC5B. To investigate the expression of these glycoproteins in CF, immunohistochemis

Extensible Compiler Construction

Eftersom dessa verktyg gör liknande analyser fiProcessing of programs is a core area in computer science. A compiler that translates source text to machine language is the most well-known kind of tool in this area, but there are numerous other kinds of related applications: source-to-source translators, refactoring tools, reengineering tools, metrics tools, consistency checkers, etc. These tools perform similar analyses and can therefore benef

Trots den ringa andel som eleverna i fristående skolor utgör, har diskussionen om skolorAbstract Although the number of children attending private schools in Sweden is less than 4% of those attending compulsory schools, the debate of these schools has been intense. Apart from details as fees and funding, the role of education’ in the Swedish welfare system has been subject of much debate. In spite of the debate, in Sweden there is a lack of knowledge about private schools. The aim of

Effect of environmental and clinical factors on lung function and respiratory symptoms in adolescents with alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency

Individuals identified in the Swedish neonatal alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) screening study were followed prospectively from their first to their eighteenth year of life. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of environmental factors, i.e. active and passive smoking, and of clinical factors on lung function and the occurrence of respiratory symptoms in AAT-deficient adolescents. The study gr

A 9-DOF Tractor-Semitrailer Dynamic Handling Model for Advanced Chassis Control Studies

A nonlinear dynamic handling model for a tractor-semitrailer combination vehicle is presented in this report. The equations of motion are derived from the fundamental equations of dynamics in Euler's formulation without approximations. The model is modular in the sense that it is easy to change axle configuration, tyre model, suspension model, or to add new features. The primary aim of the model i

Age, gender, and fragility fractures are associated with differences in quantitative ultrasound independent of bone mineral density

Bone strength is determined by bone mineral density (BMD) and bone structure. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) measures BMD. Whether quantitative ultrasound (qUS) measures a property of bone distinct from BMD is uncertain. To evaluate this, DXA and qUS were measured in 58 fracture patients and 428 controls. To study the independent effects of age and gender on qUS measurements and control fo

Life-history evolution in harvested populations: the role of natural predation

Models and experiments of the evolution of age- and/or size-at-maturation in response to population harvesting have consistently shown that selective harvesting of older and larger individuals can cause earlier maturation. These predictions, however, are all based on single-species considerations and thus crucially neglect the selective forces caused or mediated by species interactions. Here we de
