Review of "Archaeology and History of Churches in Baltic Region" (2011), printed papers from a church archaeological conference on Gotland in 2010.
Chronic non-bloody diarrhoea: a prospective study in Malmö, Sweden, with focus on microscopic colitis.
Chronic non-bloody diarrhoea affects up to 5% of the population. Microscopic colitis is one of the most common causes, encompassing the subtypes collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis. The diagnosis of microscopic colitis is made by histological examination of colonic mucosal biopsy specimens. The aim of this investigation was to determine whether laboratory parameters or questions about dise
Decision-making in critical situations during pregnancy and birth
The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the experiences of obstetricians and parents and the attitudes of midwives in relation to critical situations during pregnancy and birth. The data collection (Paper I and II) started in year 2000 with interviews with obstetricians (n=14) concerning the meaning of being in ethically difficult situations. During 2002 to 2004 interviews with parents (n=2

Supersensitive gastrin assay using antibodies raised against a cholecystokinin homolog
Peptide hormones may occur in particularly low amounts in samples from small animals. Hence, in a rat microdialysis study conventional immunoassays were not sufficiently sensitive to measure gastrin in the dialysis samples. We therefore exploited the observation that antibodies raised against the homologous hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) occasionally bind gastrin peptides with significantly higher
On the Decentralized H2 Optimal Control of Bilateral Teleoperation Systems with Time Delays
Decentralized control of bilateral teleoperation systems with time delays is considered within the H2 optimization framework. We demonstrate that the problem is quadratically invariant and can be split into two independent model matching optimizations with partial multiplicative delay. The recent loop shifting techniques for delayed systems control are used then to find a complete analytical solut
Accuracy of Equivalent Roughness Height Formulas in Practical Applications
This paper presents a discussion on the application and accuracy of roughness height formulas from a practical point of view. Such formulas have been proposed to describe the equivalent roughness height for plane bed conditions on the basis of the Shields parameter. The application of these relationships requires an iterative solution technique. However, as this paper demonstrates, the roughness e
Use of Inhaled Corticosteroids in Patients With COPD and the Risk of TB and Influenza A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Background: The use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) is associated with an increased risk of pneumonia in patients with COPD. However the risks of other respiratory infections such as TB and influenza remain unclear. Methods: Through a comprehensive literature search of MEDLINE EMBASE CINAHL Cochrane Library and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to July 2013 we identified randomized controlled tr

Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, Patient Variables, Outcomes and Knee Osteoarthritis
The ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) leads to immediate symptoms that severely affect the individual and receives great attention among the scientific community, yet there is still no consensus on the optional form of treatment. An ACL injury is also a well known high risk factor for the development of knee osteoarthritis (OA) some decades later. Knee OA development after an ACL injury is
Multi-Dimensional Quantitative Laser-based Diagnostics - Development and Practial Applications
Many of the more common approaches are based on illuminating a cross-section of the sample with a thin laser sheet. For example, by targeting an electronic transition in a molecule, its concentration within the plane illuminated by the laser sheet can be deduced. By probing the relative occurrence of an atom or molec

Calibrating floor field cellular automaton models for pedestrian dynamics by using likelihood function optimization
The formulation of pedestrian floor field cellular automaton models is generally based on hypothetical assumptions to represent reality. This paper proposes a novel methodology to calibrate these models using experimental trajectories. The methodology is based on likelihood function optimization and allows verifying whether the parameters defining a model statistically affect pedestrian navigation

Embracing Left and Right Image Repair and Crisis Communication in a Polarized Ideological Milieu
The author explores how a tobacco firm in crisis engaged in crisis communication and image repair work in a highly polarized ideological milieu. Through an analysis of the tobacco firm's public statements produced in the aftermath of a 1997 lawsuit, the author demonstrates how the firm dealt with its milieu by exploiting and embracing both of the ambient ideological poles. By embracing these poles
Malignant melanoma-Risk factors and the CDKN2A mutation in relation to phenotypes and other cancers.
Background: Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) is an increasingly common cancer in fair-skinned people. The purpose of this thesis was to study high-risk patients with multiple tumours including a CMM, high-risk families with the unique Swedish germline mutation in CDKN2A(113insArg), as well as study risk factors for CMM in women. Methods: Tumours associated with CMM, in individuals/probands with
Quantitative analysis of intrinsic and extrinsic factors in the aggregation mechanism of Alzheimer-associated Aβ-peptide.
Disease related mutations and environmental factors are key determinants of the aggregation mechanism of the amyloid-β peptide implicated in Alzheimer's disease. Here we present an approach to investigate these factors through acquisition of highly reproducible data and global kinetic analysis to determine the mechanistic influence of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on the Aβ aggregation network.
