A prospective observational study of the effects of treatment with extended-release tolterodine on health-related quality of life of patients suffering overactive bladder syndrome in Sweden

Objective. Overactive bladder (OAB) is a chronic condition that has a profound impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study measured changes in bother of OAB symptoms and self-perceived HRQoL over 6 months in patients treated with extended-release (ER) tolterodine in a naturalistic setting. Material and methods. This was a prospective, single-cohort observational study of patients

Severe gastrointestinal dysmotility developed after treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs

Background. Sporadic cases of abdominal pain and dysmotility has been described after treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs. The aim of the present study was to scrutinize for patients with severe gastrointestinal complaints after treatment with GnRH analogs, to describe the expression of antibodies against progonadoliberin-2, GnRH1, GnRH receptor (GnRHR), luteinizing hormon

Sound, Safety & Society - Research on Sound & Sustainability

Sustainability, resilience and safety are features of a society that are more affected by sound environments than is generally acknowledged, even if other environmental threats may appear more prominent. But when noise levels reach the limits of sustainability in society, it´s resilience to destructive processes of many kinds will be challenged. In an interdisciplinary symposium in 2014 arranged b

Childhood cancer survivor cohorts in Europe

With the advent of multimodality therapy, the overall five-year survival rate from childhood cancer has improved considerably now exceeding 80% in developed European countries. This growing cohort of survivors, with many years of life ahead of them, has raised the necessity for knowledge concerning the risks of adverse long-term sequelae of the life-saving treatments in order to provide optimal sc

Clothing Evaporative Resistance: Its Measurements and Application in Prediction of Heat Strain

Popular Abstract in English Clothing plays an important role in our lives. It serves four main functions: adornment, status, modesty and protection. Wearing popular clothing with one’s favourite decorations, contributes to a person reaching his or her mental comfort. Clothing is also a symbol of status, and was particularly so in ancient times. Moreover, it protects the human body from injury fromClothing evaporative resistance is one of the most important inputs for both the modelling and for standards dealing with thermal comfort and heat stress. It might be determined on guarded hotplates, on sweating manikins or even on human subjects. Previous studies have demonstrated that the thermal manikin is the most ideal instrument for testing clothing evaporative resistance. However, the repea

The persistent presence of the dead: recent excavations at the hunter-gatherer cemetery at Zvejnieki (Latvia)

The well-known Mesolithic cemeteries of Northern Europe have long been viewed as evidence of developing social complexity in those regions in the centuries immediately before the Neolithic transition. These sites also had important symbolic connotations. This study uses new and more detailed analysis of the burial practices in one of these cemeteries to argue that much more is involved than social

Vortices in rotating two-component boson and fermion traps

Quantum liquids may carry angular momentum by the formation of vortex states. This is well known for Bose-Einstein condensates in rotating traps, and was even found to occur in quantum dots at strong magnetic fields. Here we consider a two-component quantum liquid, where coreless vortices and interlaced lattices of coreless vortices appear in a very similar way for fermions and bosons with repulsi

Statistical Modeling of Atrioventricular Nodal Function During Atrial Fibrillation Focusing on the Refractory Period Estimation

We have recently proposed a statistical AV node model defined by a set of parameters characterizing the arrival rate of atrial impulses, the probability of an impulse passing through the fast or the slow pathway, the refractory periods of the pathways, and the prolongation of refractory periods. All parameters are estimated from the RR interval series using maximum likelihood (ML) estimation, exce

Interreligiösa gruppers samarbete med kommuner i Sverige

In Swedish contemporary society we find ongoing processes of secularization and the idea of secularism being challenged by a growing religious plurality in society. The overall purpose of this article is to highlight what happens when religion in a secularized and secular society enter into the public sphere as a result of inter-religious groups’ collaboration with local authorities. This is done

I desThe thesis consists of three different purposes. Purpose number one entails describing and analysing the legal opportunities for, and the demands on, the work of the actors in question with regard to children as victims of crime. This purpose intends to illustrate the legal regulation, which in different ways, and to different degrees, controls the work of the actors. Whereas the legislation provi

From Hoffmann to Wirth - an historical perspective of published German lichen floras.

German lichen flora projects are surveyed from Georg Hoffmann’s Deutschlands Flora oder Botanisches Taschenbuch. Zweyter Theil für das Jahr 1795. Cryptogamie to the recently published Die Flechten Deutschlands 2013, via Wilhelm Körber’s Systema Lichenum Germaniae 1855, and the supplementary volume Parerga lichenologica 1859, Gustav Lindau’s Die Flechten, Kryptogamenflora für Anfänger 1913 & 19

Measurement of distributions sensitive to the underlying event in inclusive Z-boson production in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A measurement of charged-particle distributions sensitive to the properties of the underlying event is presented for an inclusive sample of events containing a Z-boson, decaying to an electron or muon pair. The measurement is based on data collected using the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 4.6fb(-1). Distri

Living with cancer - Impact on cancer patient and partner

The overall aim of this thesis was to study different aspects of health on a population based level for persons with four common forms of cancer and their partners, and from an individual level to explore the impact on the daily life situation of living with advanced colorectal cancer for persons with cancer and their partners. Population based register data was used to compare different aspects o

”The EU Administration of the divided Bosnian city of Mostar: Implications for EUs evolving peacebuilding approach

This article explores the EU’s efforts to reunify and reconstruct Mostar through the seminal experiment of EUAM (1994-1996), which combined peacebuilding with urban reconstruction in an innovative way. The aim is to identify lessons to be learned from the experiences of EUAM that can assist the EU to adjust its peacebuilding approach to better address post-conflict divides in cities where the EU c

Cytotoxic effect of menadione and sodium orthovanadate in combination on human glioma cells

Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumor, and their treatment is still a challenge. Here, we evaluated the antiproliferative effect of a novel combination of two potent oxidative stress enhancers: menadione (M) and sodium orthovanadate (SO). We observed both short-term and prolonged growth inhibitory effects of M or SO alone as well as in combination (M:SO) on DBTRG.05MG human glioma cells.

Design of Orthogonal MIMO Handset antennas based on characteristic mode manipulation at frequency bands below 1 GHz

Multi-antenna design in compact mobile handsets at frequency bands below 1 GHz is very challenging, since severe mutual coupling is commonly induced by simultaneous excitation of the chassis’ fundamental dipole mode by more than one antenna element. To address this problem, a novel multi-antenna design approach is proposed herein to obtain efficient and uncorrelated antennas. By manipulating the c
