CFD in design and development of heat exchangers

This paper gives a brief summary of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) methods and turbulence modeling for applications in the design, research and development of heat exchangers. Some examples are shown to demonstrate how CFD methods can be used as engineering tools. Nevertheless, limitations and shortcomings as well as need for further research are highlighted. Copyright

Load-Carrying Capacity of Damaged Steel Columns with Channel Sections

The influence of damage on the load-carrying capacity of thin-walled steel columns with channel sections is investigated. The axial load-carrying capacity is evaluated for different profiles, and different damage magnitudes are dealt with. The profiles selected for the analysis are commonly used as upright members in rack and shelving systems in industry. The type of damage corresponds primarily t

Older People,s Involvement in the Development of a social assistive Robot

The introduction of social assistive robots is a promising approach to enable a growing number of elderly people to continue to live in their own homes as long as possible. Older people are often an excluded group in product development; however this age group is the fastest growing segment in most developed societies. We present a participatory design approach as a methodology to create a dialogu

Reduplication with fixed tone pattern in Kammui

In this paper we show that speakers of both tonal and non-tonal dialects of Kammu use a fixed tone pattern high–low for intensifying reduplication of adjectives, and also that speakers of the tonal dialect retain the lexical tones (high or low) while applying this fixed tone pattern.

Trigeneration: Thermodynamic performance and cold expander aerodynamic design in humid air turbines

Improving electrical efficiency has been proposed as the most convenient means of reducing, e.g. CO2 emission from power plants. Increasing fuel utilization through combined heat and power generation is another useful measure for emission reduction. Trigeneration technology for the production of heat, power and cooling is an interesting alternative for further improvement of fuel utilization. Prev

Grannen vet bäst - Faktorer som påverkar hushållens val av energiformer

In today’s society people are overwhelmed with information about different kinds of heating systems. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that impact households when they make decisions on heating systems, and also how households value different types of information on the subject. Four Swedish municipalities were chosen for closer examination. Municipal energy advisors and represe

Respiratory NAD(P)H dehydrogenases of plants - Gene identity and expression in response to light and cold

Popular Abstract in Swedish Respirationen i både växter och djur kan delas upp i tre delar: glykolysen, citronsyracykeln och elektrontransportkedjan. Glykolysen sker i cytoplasman (cellvätskan), medan citronsyracykeln och elektrontransportkedjan verkar i mitokondrierna. Mitokondrier fungerar som cellernas motorer. De är ungefär lika viktiga för cellen som motorn är för en bil. Mitokondrierna är smThe respiratory chain of plants contains class 2 NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, not present in animals. The functional roles of these enzymes have been elusive for a long time. Two cDNAs, homologous to class 2 NADH dehydrogenase genes of yeast and E. coli, were isolated from potato leaves. The gene products, NDA1 and NDB1, were shown to reside on the internal and external sides of the inner mitochondrial
