"Vi kan inte göra hipp som happ" : Åklagares formuleringar av en objektiv ordning

The claim that politics, economics, and personal and social values are relevant in judicial decision making is not new. However, a shared view among legal practitioners tends to be that most cases are decided in an objective fashion. Drawing on material from two different studies (one on battered women and one on bribery), this paper investigates how prosecutors rely on and actively uphold an inst

A 2.2 GHz CMOS VCO with inductive degeneration noise suppression

A 1.4 V, 9 mA monolithic LC-tank voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) fabricated in a standard 0.35 μm CMOS process is presented. The VCO is tunable between 2.0 GHz and 2.37 GHz, and displays a phase noise between -140 dBc/Hz and -138 dBc/Hz at a 3 MHz offset frequency across the whole tuning range. This low phase noise is achieved through the use of an on-chip LC filter and an off-chip low frequen

Inhibition of dendropoiesis by tumor derived and purified prostate specific antigen

Purpose: Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a serine protease produced by the prostate gland at high concentrations. Serum PSA may be significantly elevated in prostate cancer and benign prostatic diseases. It has recently become evident that, in addition to being a tissue and/or serum marker, PSA may also have biological effects. Despite the voluminous literature on this biomarker in the diagnosi

Mortality and cancer morbidity in cohorts of asbestos cement workers and referents

Total and cause specific mortality and cancer morbidity were studied among 1929 asbestos cement workers with an estimated median cumulative exposure of 2.3 fibre (f)-years/ml (median intensity 1.2 f/ml, predominantly chrysotile). A local reference cohort of 1233 industrial workers and non-case referents from the exposed cohort were used for comparisons. The risk for pleural mesothelioma was signif

Solid-state single photon sources: light collection strategies

We examine the problem of efficiently collecting the photons produced by solid-state single photon sources. The extent of the problem is first established with the aid of simple physical concepts. Several approaches to improving the collection efficiency are then examined and are broadly categorized into two types. First are those based on cavity quantum dynamics, in which the pathways by which th

Hans afhandling behand

Time-dependent increase in risk of hospitalisation with infection among Swedish RA patients treated with TNF antagonists

Objectives: The degree to which treatment with tumour necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists may be associated with increased risks for serious infections is unclear. An observational cohort study was performed using prospectively collected data from the Swedish Biologics Register (ARTIS) and other national Swedish registers. Methods: First, in the ARTIS, all 4167 rheumatoid arthritis ( RA) patients st

Passive sustained turning of the head induces asymmetric gain of the vestibulo-ocular reflex in healthy subjects

In order to test the hypothesis of an interaction between neck proprioception and the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), we rotated 16 healthy subjects both facing forward and with their heads passively turned 70 degrees to either side. We found that gain tended to be lower when the subjects were rotated with their heads turned opposite to the direction of rotation compared to when they were rotated i

Partitioning of beta-mannanase and alpha-galactosidase from Aspergillus niger in Ucon/Reppal aqueous two-phase systems and using temperature-induced phase separation

Enzyme partitioning and recovery with a new aqueous two-phase system based on commercially available hydroxypropyl starch Reppal PES 200 and the thermo-separating polymer Ucon 50-HB-5100 was studied. Ucon is an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide random copolymer. A culture supernatant of Aspergillus niger containing extracellular beta-mannanase and alpha-galactosidase was partitioned in two steps. The

Parameter Estimation and Equalization Techniques for Communication Channels with Multipath and Multiple Frequency Offset

We consider estimation of frequency offset (FO) and equalization of a wireless communication channel, within a general framework which allows for different frequency offsets for various multipaths. Such a scenario may arise due to different Doppler shifts associated with various multipaths, or in situations where multiple basestations are used to transmit identical information. For this general fr

Gender affects self-evaluation in children with cystic fibrosis and their healthy siblings.

Aim: To determine whether self-esteem among children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their healthy siblings differs from that of a healthy reference group and whether there are differences within and between sibling pairs. Methods: All Swedish CF children 6–14 y old with a healthy sibling in the same age range (n=65) were invited to participate, 55 sibling pairs and their parents taking part in the

Class dependent cluster refinement

Unsupervised classification is a very common problem in pattern recognition even when the classes are known. In many areas intra-class variations may be greater than the inter-class variations causing a need for a subdivision of the training set of a class into smaller subunits often referred to as clusters. The subdivision or clustering is often performed independently of the relative properties
