The heating effect of phase change material (PCM) vests on a thermal manikin in a subzero environment

The heating effects of three PCM vests (Tmelt=32, 28 and 24 °C) were tested on a thermal manikin with constant temperature at 30 ºC in a subzero environment (Ta=-4 °C, Va=0.4 m/s). The results showed that the heating effects lasted about 3-4 hours. The highest heating effects reduced heat loss for 20-30 W/m2 on the torso during the first two hours. The results also showed that the vest with higher

After anti-Catholicism? : John Henry Newman and Protestant Britain, 1845-c. 1890

Is it possible to capture, in brief, the fundamental changes that affected the role of religion within modern Western society? For a long time, many scholars would have answered that question in the positive; most of them would certainly have counted increasingly tolerant attitudes towards forms of religion that were once been regarded as unacceptable, as being one of those central features. In th

Varenicline as compared to bupropion in smoking-cessation therapy-Cost-utility results for Sweden 2003.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: To calculate incremental cost-utility ratios (cost per QALY gained) for varenicline (Champix; Pfizer), as compared to bupropion, in smoking-cessation programmes for a lifetime follow-up period. DESIGN: The Benefits of Smoking Cessation on Outcomes (BENESCO) simulation model was used for a male and female cohort, respectively, as a point of departure but further extended in order

VISUALISATION AND QUANTIFICATION OF LUNG CONTENT OF RADIONUCLIDES ASSOCIATED WITH NUCLEAR AND RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCIES.

In a situation when radionuclides accidentally or deliberately are dispersed in the environment, there is a need for rapid investigation of the internal contamination in exposed individuals. In this work, the possibilities of visualising and quantifying uptakes of different radionuclides in the lung region of an adult individual using gamma camera systems have been examined, mainly on a two-headed

Fluorescence diagnostics and kinetic studies in the head and neck region utilizing low-dose delta-aminolevulinic acid sensitization

Diagnostic measurements and pharmacokinetic studies were performed in 17 patients with various kinds of malignant, premalignant and benign lesions in the head and neck region by means of point monitoring laser-induced fluorescence. For marking different types of tissue, delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) was used. The ALA-induced PpIX synthesis was monitored at differ

Weak associations between human leucocyte antigen genotype and acute myocardial infarction.

Objectives. Human leucocyte antigens (HLAs) are polymorphic molecules involved in antigen presentation. Associations between HLA type and autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, are well established but the potential association of genetic variation affecting antigen presentation with cardiovascular disease has not been systematically investigated in large cohorts. T

Spectral Time Domain IP - Factors Affecting Data Information Content and Applicability to Geological Characterization

A DCIP survey with different timing settings, electrode arrays, cable spreads and waveforms (50\% and 100\% duty cycle waveform) were carried out over the Liikavaara deposit in northern Sweden. All the measured data were inverted using AarhusInv. Measured data with 100\% duty cycle waveform, which is much faster than the conventional 50\% duty cycle waveform, present significant improvements in th
