Svensk Tidskrift och synen på Ryssland 1915–1919 – förhållningssättet till ett land i förändring
This thesis researches the Swedish conservative intellectual magazine Svensk Tidskrift and their view on Russia, between the years of 1915–1919. It further examines how the view changes over the years. The research also analyses the view on Russia in Svensk Tidskrift from a perspective of center-periphery. Sweden and Russia have a long relationship that goes way back to several centuries before, a

Career incentives in political hierarchy: evidence from Imperial Russia
This paper studies political career incentives in a nondemocratic historical setting to assess early political institutions. We construct a novel panel database of governors of Imperial Russia in 91 provinces between 1895 and 1914. Measuring an imperial governor’s performance by his ability of peacekeeping, we test whether the central authorities in the Russian Empire resorted to career incentives
Adaptive radiations in butterflies : Evolutionary history of the genus Erebia (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae)
We studied the speciose butterfly genus Erebia by reconstructing its phylogenetic relationships using parsimony and Bayesian approaches. We estimated times and rates of diversification for its lineages and employed a biogeographical analysis in order to reconstruct its evolutionary history. DNA sequence data from one mitochondrial gene and three nuclear genes were analyzed for a total of 74 specie

Evolutionary history of the Dactylorhiza maculata polyploid complex (Orchidaceae)
Taxonomic complexity may be associated with migration history and polyploidy. We used plastid and nuclear DNA markers to investigate the evolutionary history of the systematically challenging Dactylorhiza maculata polyploid complex. A total of 1833 individuals from 298 populations from throughout Europe were analysed. We found that gene flow was limited between the two major taxa, diploid ssp. fuc
Insight into Danube sturgeon life history: trace element assessment in pectoral fin rays
Sturgeon populations in the Danube River have experienced severe decline during the last several decades, mostly due to the poorly regulated fishery, river fragmentation and water pollution. This study focuses on gaining better understanding of sturgeon life history primarily by addressing the assessment of microelement accumulation in sturgeon pectoral fin rays, especially of strontium and calciu

Regional Innovation Systems in Russia: Towards a Typology of Regions and Policy Recommendations
In this article a typology of Russian regional innovation systems is developed by the means of cluster analysis techniques. To achieve this goal, a system of indicators was created in line with two theoretical frameworks – concept of regional innovation systems (RIS) and theory of innovation barriers. As a result, five types of regions were identified: “metropolitan”, “innovators”, “industrial”, “
Transformation to a Market Economy and Changing Social Values in China, Russia, and Eastern Germany
As a social change, the sudden collapse of communism1 should well be remembered as one of the most formative events of the 20th century. As a political transformation, it caused an initial rush of euphoria within the 'victorious' West and a wave of hope followed by disillusionment for hundreds of millions in the newly ‘democratic’ sphere. As an economic transformation, its effects were even more t
