År 2006 valde den svenska regeringen att tillsätta en utredning för att kartlägga omfattningen av den vanvård som skett i den sociala barnavården. Utredningen bedrevs främst genom intervjuer med frivilliga, som ville berätta om vad de utsatts för i sin barndom.
