“Humanities 2000” : Legitimizing Discourses of the Humanities in Public Debate and Research Policy at the Turn of the Century

This chapter analyzes the legitimizing discourse of the humanities in two different public debates in Sweden at the end of the twentieth century and at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The first debate concerned the marginalized role of the humanities and their relation to the broader public, while the second was strongly influenced by current research policies, which had a strong focus

Interactions in Aqueous Mixtures of Cationic Hydroxyethyl Cellulose and Different Anionic Bile Salts

It is known that the reduction of blood cholesterol can be accomplished through foods containing a large number of dietary fibers; this process is partially related to the binding of bile salt to fibers. To gain new insights into the interactions between dietary fibers and bile salts, this study investigates the interactions between cationic hydroxyethyl cellulose (catHEC) and sodium deoxycholate

The Highs and the Lows : Bank failures in Sweden through inflation and deflation, 1914-1926

This paper revisits the Swedish banking crisis (1919–1926) that materialized as post-war deflation replaced wartime inflation (1914–1918). Our tests support the theory; maturity structures mattered most in a regime of falling prices, with vulnera

Restorative cell and gene therapies for Parkinson's disease

One of the core pathological features of Parkinson's disease (PD) is the loss of the dopaminergic nigrostriatal pathway which lies at the heart of many of the motor features of this condition as well as some of the cognitive problems. The importance of this pathological event is evident through the clinical benefits that are seen when patients with PD are treated with dopaminergic agents, at least
