A note of caution on the Waterloo-Stanford Group Scale of hypnotic susceptibility: a brief communication.

The scant literature on the sequelae of hypnotizability-measurement instruments indicates that different scales produce different reactions. The Waterloo-Stanford Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility, Form C (WSGC) was developed as a group version of the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale, Form C (SHSS:C). Parallel to the literature showing that the SHSS:C can produce more negative aftereffe

Application of hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction for pinic acid and pinonic acid analysis from organic aerosols.

A method based on hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) for analysis of pinic acid and pinonic acid was developed and for the first time successfully applied to ambient aerosol samples. In this method, the aerosol samples were dissolved in 0.05M H(2)SO(4) and the solution was extracted using three-phase HF-LPME where donor phase was 0.1M (NH(4))(2)CO(3). Different parameters like typ

The article is a contribution in a debate about teaching literature according to the reader oriented respectively close reading approach. I describe two classroom situations where I took up examples of so called paradoxical narrative, that is works containing narra

Probing substrate-induced perturbations on the band structure of graphene on Ni(111) by soft X-ray emission spectroscopy

The influence of substrate-induced perturbations on the band structure of graphene has been investigated by soft X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) for graphene on Ni(111). The band-dispersion features of graphene on Ni(111) are different from those of HOPG and 'quasi-freestanding' graphene (graphene/Cu) because of the strong interfacial interaction. By comparing the XES spectra excited with energy

Cultural Heritage across Borders? - Framing and Challenging the Snapphane Story in Southern Sweden

Cultural heritage has developed into an important tool in marketing and destination development projects. Cultural heritage, as well as multiplicity, is also a political concept that has become important in the academic and public debate. The aim of our study is to analyse cultural heritage as a tourism and marketing product in relation to multiplicity. The discussion focuses around how the story

Development of Transient Flamelet Library Based Combustion Models

Det finns härvidlag ett flertal svårigheter för att uppnå acceptabel noggrannhet och acceptablaThree different methods for Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics modeling of non-premixed ignition and combustion using tabulated chemistry have been developed. All methods make use of flamelet libraries, where the flamelet auto-ignition process is parameterized using a progress variable. The progress variable parameterization of the auto-ignition chemistry allows for using

State Estimation for Distributed and Hybrid Systems

This thesis deals with two aspects of recursive state estimation: distributed estimation and estimation for hybrid systems. In the first part, an approximate distributed Kalman filter is developed. Nodes update their state estimates by linearly combining local measurements and estimates from their neighbors. This scheme allows nodes to save energy, thus prolonging their lifetime, compared to centr

Probing the Wurtzite Conduction Band Structure Using State Filling in Highly Doped InP Nanowires.

We have grown InP nanowires doped with hydrogen sulfide, which exhibit sulfur concentrations of up to 1.4%. The highest doped nanowires show a pure wurtzite crystal structure, in contrast to bulk InP which has the zinc blende structure. The nanowires display photoluminescence which is strongly blue shifted compared with the band gap, well into the visible range. We find evidence of a second conduc

Variation ontology: annotator guide.

Systematic representation of information related to genetic and non-genetic variations is required to allow large scale studies, data mining and data integration, and to make it possible to reveal novel relationships between genotype and phenotype. Although lots of variation data is available it is often difficult to use due to lack of systematics.

Evidence for counting in insects

Here we investigate the counting ability in honeybees by training them to receive a food reward after they have passed a specific number of landmarks. The distance to the food reward is varied frequently and randomly, whilst keeping the number of intervening landmarks constant. Thus, the bees cannot identify the food reward in terms of its distance from the hive. We find that bees can count up to

Fluid biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease - current concepts

The diagnostic guidelines of Alzheimer's disease (AD) have recently been updated to include brain imaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers, with the aim of increasing the certainty of whether a patient has an ongoing AD neuropathologic process or not. The CSF biomarkers total tau (T-tau), hyperphosphorylated tau (P-tau) and the 42 amino acid isoform of amyloid beta (A beta 42) reflect the

Influence of non-aqueous phase liquid configuration on induced polarization parameters: Conceptual models applied to a time-domain field case study

Resistivity and induced polarization (IP) measurements on soil contaminated with non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) show a great variety in results in previous research. Several laboratory studies have suggested that the presence of NAPLs in soil samples generally decrease the magnitude of the IP-effect, while others have indicated the opposite. A number of conceptual models have been proposed sugg

Fortunas klädnader : lycka, olycka och risk i det tidigmoderna Sverige

Fortuna’s Guises: Fortune, Misfortune, and Risk in Early Modern Sweden. This dissertation explores learned conceptions of uncertainty and risk during the period stretching approximately between 1560 and 1720. Previous historical overviews of the ideas about risk hold that pre-industrial societies viewed all worldly happenings as emanations of God’s will or other forces lying beyond human control.
