Compensation for a large gesture-speech asynchrony in instructional videos

We investigated the pragmatic effects of gesture-speech lag by asking participants to reconstruct formations of geometric shapes based on instructional films in four conditions: sync, video or audio lag (±1,500 ms), audio only. All three video groups rated the task as less difficult compared to the audio-only group and performed better. The scores were slightly lower when sound preceded gestures (

Import, Export and Multinationality. Evidence from Swedish Firms

This paper studies the role of imported inputs in explaining firms’ export behaviour. Unlike most of the existing literature we are also able to control for the participation of domestic firms to multinational networks. This allows us to test to what extent the recurrent evidence that importing foster exporting activity is instead a figment of the fact that importers are also part of multinational

Biological conversion of aromatic monolignol compounds by a Pseudomonas isolate from sediments of the Baltic Sea

Bacterial strains were isolated from the sediments of the Baltic Sea using ferulic acid, guaiacol or a lignin-rich softwood waste stream as substrate. In total nine isolates were obtained, five on ferulic acid, two on guaiacol and two on a lignin-rich softwood stream as a carbon source. Three of the isolates were found to be Pseudomonas sp. based on 16S rRNA sequencing. Among them, isolate 9.1, wh

Mantle cell lymphoma strategies in primary treatment

Use of Electronic Medical Records in Academic Hospitals: limits and remedies

In the last years the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) has become a leading driver of OECD national health systems to improve healthcare quality and reduce healthcare costs (Oecd, 2010). Tillit och misstro : om synen på mammografiscreening vid bröstcancer

One example of the welfare state’s health ambitions is to reduce the onset of illness and mortality from cancer, which among other things means that approximately 900,000 women in Sweden in the age group 40–74 years recurrently receive an invitation to mammography screening. The objective is to detect possible breast cancer at an early stage and thereby reduce mortality from the disease. For this

From I to We: Group formation and linguistic adaption in an online xenophobic forum

Much of identity formation processes nowadays takes place online, indicating that intergroup differentiation may be found in online communities. This paper focuses on identity formation processes in an open online xenophobic, anti-immigrant, discussion forum. Open discussion forums provide an excellent opportunity to investigate open interactions that may reveal how identity is formed and how indi

Experimental investigations and correlation development of convective heat transfer in a rotating smooth channel

An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effects of Coriolis force and centrifugal buoyancy force on convective heat transfer in a smooth cooling channel under rotating condition in a new rotation facility. The main motivation behind this work is to obtain required data for developing heat transfer correlations based on rotating state. In accordance with the open literature, f

Quantitative proteomic characterization of the lung extracellular matrix in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) is a common feature in lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Here, we applied a sequential tissue extraction strategy to describe disease-specific remodeling of human lung tissue in disease, using end-stages of COPD and IPF. Our strategy was based on quantitative comparison of the dis

Laminin α1 reduces muscular dystrophy in dy2Jmice

Muscular dystrophies, including laminin α2 chain-deficient muscular dystrophy (LAMA2-CMD), are associated with immense personal, social and economic burdens. Thus, effective treatments are urgently needed. LAMA2-CMD is either a severe, early-onset condition with complete laminin α2 chain-deficiency or a milder, late-onset form with partial laminin α2 chain-deficiency. Mouse models dy 3K /dy 3K

Mapping challenges and opportunities for aggregating information on systemic risks from multiple stakeholders

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction highlights the importance of all-hazard and multi-stakeholder approaches. This requires exchange and integration of risk information across sectorial and administrative borders. This paper focuses on challenges and prerequisites for aggregating risk information from multiple stakeholders in disaster risk management systems. Aggregation is here under

Vector Autoregressive Hierarchical Hidden Markov Models for Extracting Finger Movements Using Multichannel Surface EMG Signals

We present a novel computational technique intended for the robust and adaptable control of a multifunctional prosthetic hand using multichannel surface electromyography. The initial processing of the input data was oriented towards extracting relevant time domain features of the EMG signal. Following the feature calculation, a piecewise modeling of the multidimensional EMG feature dynamics using

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Sweden: an intersectional multilevel analysis of individual heterogeneity and discriminatory accuracy

Socioeconomic, ethnic and gender disparities in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) risk are well established but no studies have applied multilevel analysis of individual heterogeneity and discriminatory accuracy (MAIHDA) within an intersectional framework to study this outcome. We study individuals at the first level of analysis and combinations of multiple social and demographic catego

Modeling Parkinson's disease and treatment complications in rodents : Potentials and pitfalls of the current options

Animal models of neurological deficits are essential to assess new therapeutic options and reduce treatment complications. Over the last decades, several rodent models of Parkinson's disease have been developed, and have now become the first-line experimental tool for therapeutic screening purposes. Which model is the most predictive for identifying the efficacy of symptomatic or disease-modifying

Manufacture of High Precision, Multilayer Based Polarimeter Designed for Wide Energy Range from EUV to Soft X-Ray

The development of a high precision five rotation axes polarimeter using transmission multilayers as polarizers and reflection multilayers as analyzers is presented. In order to cover a wide energy range from EUV to soft X-ray, a set of Mo/Si, Cr/C, Sc/Cr, and W/B4C multilayers for transmission and reflection have been designed and fabricated. A hexapod support allows to align the polarimeter easi

Frågorna som undersökts innefattar hur organisationerna artikulerade ideal om medborgarskap, hur barn och ungdomar skulle fostras till goda medborgare samt mer specifikt hur natur och friluftsliv skulle bidra till att förThe aim of this thesis has been to examine outdoor activities and camping, framed within the Scandinavian notion of friluftsliv, as methods for promoting citizenship in two Swedish youth organisations: the Scout movement and Unga Örnar (“Young Eagles”). What knowledge and abilities characterised ideal citizenship; how was instruction in citzenship for children conducted and more specifically, how

New perspectives on the late neolithic of south-western Sweden. an interdisciplinary investigation of the gallery grave falköping stad 5

This article presents the results of an interdisciplinary study combining archaeology, osteology, and stable isotope analyses. The geological conditions and richness of megalithic graves in Falbygden is suitable for studies of Neolithic human remains. Nevertheless, the Late Neolithic period (2350-1700 BC) is poorly investigated. This paper explores new knowledge of the Late Neolithic megalithic po
